  1. I have a 88 GL 4WD auto wagon with the 3.9 gear. A while back, I was driving it around and I lost third gear, but speedo was still working fine. We replaced the governor shaft, now the car shifts fine, but the speedo doesn't work. I checked both ends of the cable, and the one end is locked into the instrument cluster and the other end is still tight in the tranny. Any suggestions? I am going to convert it to either a 4 sp d/r or 5 sp d/r pretty soon, but would still like to get it fixed so I have a good 4x4 tranny laying around.
  2. The Gen 1 is too narrow, about maybe a 1/2". I think we are just going to build a lift to accommodate the EA81 crossmember. I have some ideas in mind for that. Are you going to need the clutch pedal assembly and the clutch cable or throttle cable? I will be needing those also if you have no use for them. Talk to you later.
  3. You wouldn't necessarilly have to pull the block IF the bolt head twisted off. On the road trip to Washington with Miles Fox, we had the bolt from the tensioner pulley for the timing belts twist off flush with the motor. We pulled the radiator and used a drill to drill a hole directly in the center of the bolt. We then used a bolt extractor to remove it. It was successful and didn't have any more problems with it. Although the starter shouldn't have enough torgue to twist the bolt head off.
  4. I know this might be a stupid question but.......are the replacement bulbs 9004 or 9007? I have a 88 gl wagon that I am ordering headlight bulbs for, but don't have it with me right now to check.
  5. If you have the extra money to spare, get the brand new kit with the lifetime warranty. That way if you fry it again beyond repair, it doesn't cost you anything. Otherwise do what Tom suggested.
  6. Yes, it is located on the passenger side, right in front of the tire. It has a bracket with three bolts. I bought a brand new Subaru Fuel Pump for my 87 subaru gl carbed wagon from the dealer for $100. When you unbolt the bracket, you will see three nuts holding the fuel pump to the bracket (10 mm). Take the nuts off, unclip it, and your done. Installation is the reverse.
  7. I sold my set of x-pipes, but that is the way to go. The performance is much better than stock. PM for details.
