get the OEM brake pad kit which comes with all the clips and shims, the aftermkt ones usually dont which can lead to NOISE!!!

do a search. i remember reading on this site a few months ago several people complaining about "Eastern" brand converters, instead recommending "Walker" brand.

how do i choose which MT to put in my 96 OBW?
1. $500, unknown mileage, 4 month warranty.
2. $550, 73,000 miles claimed, no warranty.
3. $600, 127,000 miles claimed, 1 month warranty.
etc..........

"Stupid Motorist Law" HAH
i got a 2WD pickup stuck in the pantano wash just out of view of Houghton Rd

if you do a lot of highway driving you might find the higher revs of the outback gearing annoying. my 90 legacy AT cruises quieter at 80 than my 96 outback 2.2 MT.

i have a friend that is considering a new or almost new legacy. i advised him of piston slap and other problems of the 2.5 and recommended the H6. has anyone had problems with that engine?

in a bout of laziness i had pepboys do the brake job..... big mistake. from day one they squealed every time i braked and gradually got louder until i got fed up and said "if you want it done right you gotta do it yourself", so i pulled a wheel off and surprise, NO SHIMS . so i went to dealer and paid $80 and did it myself and 5 months later..... NO NOISE:clap: . i mean completely silent!!!! $80 well spent.

all i know about snow tires is that i went cheap and bought Kelly Magna Grip. good choice. after 1 winter they show very little wear. driving up and down an icy and snowy hill was cake. and in nonwinter situations they feel and grip similar to A/S tires. total set $250 at jack williams for 185/70/14. my 2cents;)
i should add that i haven't driven them in steep mountain country yet......

are there other legacy 5MT trannys that will work in my 96 OBW? also can someone please list final drive ratios of gen2 legacies.
thanx:)

do a search on this site, there are many (many) similar threads.
they should probably start a sticky on it.

once upon a time i was working as an apprentice at an auto repair shop and i recommended to a customer who happened to be my neighbor that the atf be changed in his 83 oldsmobile with 150,000 miles. one week later it totally died. so i gather that you're saying in subarus that's unlikely. btw- the fluid is definitely not original, it's not black nor does it smell burned. maybe it's 5 years old? i'm thinking about having the dealer do the flush and filter change. keep the suggestions coming. thanx.
-
well, what's your experience? help, harm, or no difference?
the fluid is light brown. AWD works perfectly with no torque bind. it shifts very well except into 3rd. when warm that shift occurs a bit slowly but ok. however, in cold weather if i don't let it idle until warm it bumps into 3rd.
to change or not to change???

snorkel. his obw has aspirations of morphing into a jeep wrangler. how 'bout some pics of it IN the water. that would be cool
-
i've read more than once that the shift action was somehow improved for 97. hey- what do you think of your 96 obw 2.2?
-
code for both crank and cam- did the t. belt jump time?
-
when my knock sensor went bad it sometimes ran rough or stalled, and sounded strange when decellerating. got the new one at Autozone in Carlisle for $44. 6000 miles later no problem.

95-99.
i want a gen 2 legacy wgn MT but was disappointed at the trucklike clutch engagement- rough and sluggish, in the 95 2.2 i test drove. which subaru wgn would give a more sporty driving experience for $4000? oh, the impreza OBS is too small.
-
whats the difference between outback and gt wgn?
also- does the 2.5 MT feel smoother and more responsive than the 2.2 MT?
one more- did the 2.2 MT get smoother in '97 with the improved shifter?
-
what do you all think of the link posted a few weeks ago about the small plane technician who feels he solved the 96-99 HG issue by drilling and tapping a fitting into a certain coolant passage to release trapped air?
-
i'm looking to replace my 90 AT legacy with a later 90s MT legacy or maybe forrester. i test drove a 95 L model AWD MT and was disappointed at the noise and roughness and sluggishness on takeoff compared to hondas and nissans. why is this? is there a year they improved it?
Anybody used the cheap clutch kits from Advance Auto?
in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
