  1. No Recirc on HVAC. So can't try that. I've had the swooshing/girgling noise from heater core for quite sometime thats why I suspect it. Heater core is doable for me but it's a pain in the a** to get too. Don't feel like removing the entire dash board. Also with the current coolant situation the swooshing/girgling noise is gone. Could be bad core or just the lack of coolant in system. Gloyale lives very close to me so I've pm'd him for assistance as well. Again it's been an awesome car but the timing on this sucks! goatcheez
  2. Did the radiator trick...no luck. Car does not smoke at all and no unusual odor to exhaust. Still can pinpoint it. Can't do compression test 'cause I don't have the tools. I have a buddy that does so I'll try to reach him tomorrow. What do head gaskets cost to replace?? Depending on cost of repair I'm debating keeping the car or selling and cutting my losses. I paid $800 for the car three years ago with 180,000 on her so I've gotten my money's worth for sure. Just trying to figure out and fix the problem as quickly and cheaply as possible. I just noticed the coolant issue today on my way home from work. Drove it all weekend with no issues. Car did not overheat so there shouldn't be any head warping problems. I use this car as my daily commuter and the timing on this sucks. Thanks for your help and I'm still open to suggestions... goatcheez
  3. Here's one to throw out to the experts on this board. My 91 Loyale wagon with 250,000 miles is eating/drinking coolant. There is NO collant in the oil nor do I notice oil in the coolant and NO leaks. But it's going thru it quick. Within a few miles after I top it off. I replaced the radiator a couple of weeks ago and it's never run better. Now this!! Could it be the head gaskets?? Heater core?? I did notice a slight smell of coolant in the cabin but again no leaks. Any ideas?? Expensive to fix?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! goatcheez
  4. Oh, and thanks for your help. Are these a common ware item on high milage soobs?? goatcheez
  5. Should I order both parts just to be on the safe side?? goatcheez
  6. 1991 Loyale 4WD 5-Speed. Just flipped 252,000!! Still going but getting rusty!! It's my commuter vehicle so my 2005 GTO can be a garage queen. Plan on keeping her going as long as humanly possible. GREAT little wagon and push button 4WD kicks a** in these Wisconsin winters. goatcheez
  7. Hi Guys!! I've a 1991 Subaru Loyale Wagon 4WD 5-Speed. I've noticed some smoke after long drives (soemthing burning off the cat). Traced it to the inner axle seal on passenger side. (coming out of trans) What exactly is it called and how hard is it to fix?? It's just seeping trans fluid so it's not an emergency fix but want to do it soon. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Tried doing a search and came up empty. Thanks!! goatcheez
  8. I replaced the one with the green plug right by thermostat on top/front of motor. Didn't replace the gauge sensor. Thanks for the code info! Were getting smacked with snow/freezing rain here in Milwaukee so I take a look at it once the weather breaks. Thanks again!!
  9. Alright, pardon my ignorance, but what is d-check? Is that where I count the cel flashes by turning the key a certain direction?? I can do that but I do not have a glossary of codes. I'll try it if it will help. goatcheez
  10. Oh and I'm NOT getting a CEL. Thanks again!! goatcheez
  11. Update... Replaced plugs, PCV, airfilter, and CTS. Runs & idles perfect when warmed-up but still starts hard and hesitates when cold. I actually have to hit the gas to get it to start and hold the gas at stop lights to keep it running until warm. Do I need to check/clean the IAC?? Could it be the TPS. What is a TPS and where is it?? Expensive?? I've been driving it for a while now (been to cold and snowy to look at) but I would really like to get to the bottom of this problem...without sinking alot of $$ into it. Thanks again for all your help. goatcheez
  12. Hey guys! My 1991 Loyale wagon has just developed a rough start on cold mornings. Sounds like it not firing on all four. I have to hold the gas down to get it to start and once I get it running for a few minutes it runs fine...like nothing's wrong. Thought maybe water in the gas so I dumped some dry gas in it and filled it up. No luck. I just had the timing belts replaced and valve cover gaskets too (3 wks ago). Any chance if this being a timing issue?? It's run fine with the new t-belts until just recently. It's a 1991 Loyale Wagon, fuel injected, 5 speed, 4WD. 240,00 miles. This car is my winter beater and I REALLY don't wanna take my GTO out of storage!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! goatcheez
  13. Yep that's the size they just put on mine yesterday!! goatcheez
  14. Comin' up on 221,000 on my 91 Loyale Wagon 4wd 5-spd. She's in the shop today getting new muffler. Had new tires put on her yesterday. She's got new struts & shocks (2yrs ago), new radiator (2yrs ago), new t-belts (2yrs ago). Heck pretty much everything done a couple of years ago, right before I bought it...for $900!! Other than normal wear & tear replacment parts she's ALL original!! Damn I love these cars!! She's got a little cancer brewin though... Goatcheez
  15. Same problem here on my 91 Loyale Wagon. Where do we find the air control valve?? goatcheez 91 Loyale 4WD Wagon 5spd 220,000 & STILL going!!
  16. Hi everyone! Just a noobie saying hello. My Subaru is a 1991 Loyale Wagon 4WD Manual. Just turned 220,000 miles!! Damn are these things bullet proof or what?? Bought last spring from a guy selling it for his son that just got stationed in Germany. Had a grocery list of stuff already done to it: CV Boots Timing Belts Radiator Struts /shocks etc... I had a clutch put in it and some exhaust work (manifold) but other that than that, it's gas and oil changes. Got get the oil leaks (typical) fixed this spring. How long should I expect this thing to go?? Thought about looking for another one (mines getting rusty) but if it ain't broke don't fix it right?? Oh, I should mention that this is my daily driver / winter car. Got a pretty substantial commute and want to keep the "toy" in the garage. I look forward to picking your brains in the future!! goatcheez
