SevenSisters replied to hklaine's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHey The Brian: No it's not a minivan, it's an AWD SUV! Aren't you the guy that said this: __________________96 Legacy Brighton, EJ22, manual everything. 126K mi. Green. A Subaru SUV, a reasonable car. Give me a break! ? (when a 4 would do???)

Strange noise/brake puls at idle
SevenSisters replied to Tom Dunn's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXPick up a stainless steel "tooth" type brush at Lowes or Home Depot in the welding section. Clean out all the crap between the tone ring and sensor. Then clean off the rust scale off the tone ring. One more thought. My ABS did s similar thing when the wheel bearing was going and the hub/sensor/tone ring would heat up. Fixing the bearing solved the problem.

What's with a the plastic on the Air intake?
SevenSisters replied to abubailey's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhy does everyone buy a Subaru and then want it to run like a 'Vette? God I must be getting old.

Strange noise/brake puls at idle
SevenSisters replied to Tom Dunn's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt sounds like the ABS system. Several postings dealing with a bad ABS relay. Check that first. Are you getting an ABS light? Could also be rust/metal debris on the tone rings making the ABS think it should turn on. Could be a bad wheel sensor too if the ABS light comes on.

Fuel Tank- Legacy 90-94 Interchange
SevenSisters replied to sregor13's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't doubt you need a new fuel tank, but make sure it's not some hose or filler tube issue first.

Seal Removal Method?
SevenSisters replied to blitz's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSTOP! Don't grind anything off the cam shaft. See where the gouges are and if you can, shim the seal out to miss it. Otherwise, fill in the gouges with some epoxy. Don't may an egg shaped cam. It can only leak.

Something Very Bad Happened
Glad it went back together OK. Like they say, if it has tits or tires on it, you're going to have trouble.

Anybody else notice the upswing in prices on Subaru's?
I don't want an upscale, premium, or what ever Subaru is marketing their cars as. Yes I know, automakers make more profit on upscale cars and that's the basic reasoning for them to add frills and charge more. Yes, Subaru has escalated in price more than most mfgs, but I admit, you get more too. The problem is all I want is basic AWD, ABS, and EAT. I wish Subaru would introduce a "stripped" version to meet my needs. That is, a good, inexpensive, reliable car like they used to make.

A Success!!!
Bet it rides like a whole new car. Congrats!

MPG anyone?
SevenSisters replied to medfurd's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSince someone resurected this thread, The people with their 35 mpg vehicles despise all Subaru owners the same way some Subaru owners despise the SUV's. Subaru's are gas hogs. No way around it. No honest environmentalist would ever own one. Ever hear of walking and living in a high density urban environment? Were all guilty. Don't try to justify you're Subaru. I'm embarrased to say my Subaru emits about 25 pounds of tail pipe emmsions a day. I know I could do better with a HONDA HYBRID. Hey, let's all junk our 'rus and buy HONDAS!

Fuel Injectors
SevenSisters replied to wildish's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCheck the code displayed to verify (see Legacy777 website). I had a # 3 go out, ran real rough. As I recall, only needed a Phillips screw driver. Oil the new one's o-ring and push in with a 2x4 or something. Cost about $100. Someone jump in here if I'm forgeting something. If it is bad, change the oil too.

Used 2000 Outback Limited...
SevenSisters replied to wait4the1's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSorry I don't know about the CD player, but A dealer trying to swindle someone, particuarly a woman? Yea, I know the answer to that one. As soon as my dealer accepted my offer, I knew I paid too much for mine. Do your homework. Deal with them. Obviously you'll have to deduct $600 from the price if the CD player isn't there. The tires look a little worn. I couldn't possibly pay what you're asking for that. How are the head gaskets? Will you throw in the extended warranty for me? The 2005's are already out. That makes this at least 5 years old. How long have you had this dog on your lot? Can I see the maintenance records. It looks like it's almost time for the xxx mile service. Oh well, I don't know. Let me ask my husband and think about it. If you can do any better, here's my phone number. Don't worry about the CD player and good luck.

Struts struts struts
SevenSisters replied to Subaru X's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's a one person job and not overly complex. I changed mine, one a night, over the course of a week. Maybe an hour and a half each. Mark all the alignment marks and put it back the same way. PT Balaster and a 1/2" drive set will be needed. As I recall, the only trouble I had was getting the nut off the compressed strut. It just wanted to spin the whole shaft. You will need a spring compressor. Autozone has a free loaner program. A compressed spring is dangerous. Some would recommend pulling the spring/strut assembly and having a garage do the actual strut change. May want to consider new top strut bearings too if you have any squeaks. I'm sure premium struts are good, mine were just the run of the mill Monroes and made a world of difference compared to the worn out ones.

buying 91 legacy L awd wagon
SevenSisters replied to wuestinator's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOn second thought, the Seafoam and tune-up probably won't help. You got it at the right price, but sorry for your experience, Find out exactly what failed and determine the cost to fix it or put in a rebuilt engine. Decide if the car is in good enough condition to warrant spending the money. There are a lot of engine swap posts and sources on this board.

Replacing speedo with KM
SevenSisters replied to pedroelbee's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe speedometer should already have kph. Buy a $3 dollar calculator if you need to convert the odometer readings, it's a lot cheaper than a swap.

Serious Question, Why do dealers charge so much for service?
Why do dealers charge so much? Why do dogs lick their balls? Because they can! God bless the techs, but when the dealer charged me $10 to add some Krex crap at my first oil change, I bought the tools and started doing my own work. When the ‘ru sounded like an airplane, was $300 too much for a Hubtamer? Yes, but I learned something about my car, still have the tool for the next wheel bearing failure, and paid less overall than having a dealer do it. The techs are just making a living, the dealers own the boats.

buying 91 legacy L awd wagon
SevenSisters replied to wuestinator's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAre you sure it needs a rotor button and cap? It should be distributorless if it's a '91. Might want to free up the IAC with a can of Seafoam as part of the tune-up. Got to love those '91s.
