  1. For some reason my 93 Impreza OB 1.8 Auto will turn itself on, not running or anything, but as if the car's key has been turn to accessory mode. It does this at random times, no order that I can tell. It will drain my battery though so I have resorted to disconnecting the battery everytime I part. I assume this is a relay/selonid somewhere. Can you please help? Thank -Justin
  2. I'm an idiot - one of my spark plugs was fouled.....I changed it and it runs great now.....every now and then I get a pop though...once every other day (I drive about 50 miles a day)...should I worry about it? THANKS FOR THE HELP ALL!!! Justin
  3. so you don't need to take the whole throttle assembly off...you can just pop of the intake tube and work on it from that opening...I assume the cleaner doesn't matter if it gets into engine but what about all the junk that gets cleaned off? Thanks a lot for the help - good pictures too ! Justin
  4. I have this same problem on my 91 Legacy SS Can explain how you get the trottle body cleaner in the throttle body....sorry I haven't done any throttle body work at all so I'm pretty clueless (pics would be appreciated). THANKS ALOT - Justin
  5. Hello all...I just changed changed/checked all vacuum tubing, tightened all my clamps connected to the turbo, boost control solenoid, and pressure exchange solenoid....... I also found leaking PCV pipe, pipe #8 and #9 on Vikash's page...I also remembered i just changed to a new MAF sensor ( which had exactly the same part code on the box and stopped my CEL)....what could be going wrong here? http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/vacuum/ej22t_pcv.gif I'd appreciate any suggestions as I HATE driving like this!!!! Justin
  6. They flow really well...lets you take advantage of a bigger turbo.
  7. I just was told that I have a feed line for oil in my block (no one would have a pic would they???) and then I need to weld a return line into my oil pan....sounds good....coolant is just tapping in existing lines. Sounds right?
  8. Hey there all, I've been looking around forum for no joke 20'ish hours and I really just need to ask a couple of small questions... I was thinking about getting an 2.5 SOHC head/intake set for my EJ22T 91 Legacy. My questions are..... 1)The oil/coolant issue... So for the coolant you just bypass the block+head and just tap into the lines appropiately. The oil you just use a plug on the top towards the back. Just that simple or I'm missing something? 2)Low compression...... Are numbers in the low 7's ok? Can I switch to a thinner head gasket to bump it up a bit (I figure theres more clearance then the DOHC) 3)Up-pipe issue.... I'm leaning towards grinding a small part of my heads because it seems a lot easier then fabing up the up-pipe....why not? 4)Phase I and Phase II... whats the difference? Will it matter to me? 5)Other problems I don't know about...I'm going to have to mount an intercooler somewhere...not sure where? Anything else.... Thanks so much - Jutboy PS> Feel free to instant message me!
  9. I know that these are not that common but a friend from MA afford me this kit for 800 bucks? Its a jdm twin turbo with two ihi turbos newly rebuilt (he doesn't know the model numbers). I guess it was designed for a 2.5 (he was going to put it on his STI) which I assume will work with my EJ22T because I'm putting 2.5 heads on it. He's also giving me an old uni-chip (hes not sure what kind it is but I;ll post it later) Please tell me what you think.....scam/deal, good performance/just a huge head-ache? Thanks much -Justin
  10. Yeah...thats the impression I got from the troopers face! The thing is I didn't know if I was going to be buying it....also I didn't want to register it untill I sell my other 95 Impreza..... what a pain in the @ss.....
  11. Thanks guys - I just picked it up on Saturday in Vermont, I'm really happy, its an Standard and other than some cosmetic stuff all I really need to do is fix a power steering leak. I don't know if you guys care but the whole pick-up process was a huge mess, went up and on Saturday to Burlington, Vermont, drove down on Sunday. Got a tagged calling my friend to drive down to CT slow (where I'm from) because I had just a passed on cop and had already seen 3 others....well 1/2 mile down the road was another, got nailed with 82mph in a 65. Well I guess I had to either buy temporary plates (and insure it for a month) or tow it for 4 and a half hours....cause you can't use the old owners plates. Infractions: Speeding, Mis-use of plates, no insurance. no registration. VT state trooper was pretty nice....I guess just gave me speeding, rest warnings, towed my car, dropped me off at a trucking stop. Waited a truck stop for about 4 hours for my friend that was going down to CT anyway (the one I was calling above), got dropped off at home. Monday I rented a trailer and borrowed a truck and drove to get my car. I picked it up and the got pulled over cause there were no lights on my trailer, the truck didn't have any adapters to hook it up. Infraction: Defective equipment Got a warning (4th in two days), and escorted to truck pull off where he said dont drive it....I figured I would never get down to CT so I waited until morning where the light would prevent it from being seen...woke up late, basically the time I would normally if I was in CT for work. It was also raining so the whole not seeing the light didn't really seem plausable. I ran 2 wires from my battery in my Legacy to trailer and made myself some kind of daylight running lights...got it home!!!!!! Was 2 and half hours late to work! Total Cost: 144 ticket, 125 towing, 50 trailer rental, 80 for gas roughly = $400 + insurance raise??? + 900 car = $1300....not bad I guess...considering how high it could be...I'm a dumb rump roast. PS. Anyone know the difference between pleading guilty/admit or no contest on a VT ticket
  12. Hmmmm......I have a hard choice to make and I would like your input on it. I know a guy that selling a smooth running /decent looking 91 Legacy Turbo - Standard Tranny - 126k black car....900 bucks. I have a teal 95 Impreza L Sedan Automatic with some simple mods (ie. remote starter/door openers) which runs great and has been looked after by me in everyway for the past year in a half. Oh yeah did I mention it was teal - yuck. So I was originally thinking about buying the Turbo engine/tranny for my Impreza and I was going to repaint my car...throw some scoops on it, you know, it would be sweet. But money is tight and so is time.....from what I read the EJ22T works great with the RS2.5 heads (and I'm assuming not the EJ22E or the EJ22K wiring)....What would you do if you were in my situation. I'm open to any suggestions.....Thanks - Jutboy
  13. Thanks for the pics Numbchux....that clears things up for me. I've got you on my AIM so I'll message next time I see you _im not on much. So I think I might really do this.... I'm looking at just getting the pistons ~$50,the exaust manifold~50, the up-pipe~25, the crossmember~125, the turbo~75 The total there is about $325......that should be easily enough....besides some tubing thats all I need, right? So, I'm still unsure if I need the Turbo version of my tranny....and how this will fit in my car.....I've done engine work but not any tranny work and didn't want to make this a huge project. THANKS ALL!!!!
  14. ahhh....so your the one that I heard about that was doing this project..hehe...lucky me. do you have an instant messanger account so we can talk more? I have an auto tranny.....he said he'd get me one of the legacy turbo ones for $350...to make this clear, it should just pop in then. here are the other prices.. All the internals, $150 turbo, $75 exhaust manifold, $50 up pipe, $25 crossmember, $125 I have a set of turbo heads for $75 How are these prices, also should I just get the pistons then? Forget the crank and rods? Thats all I need right? Lastly, I don't understand what I'll need in regards to the computer and I was under the assumption I didn't have to have an intercooled system.
  15. The guy also has a legacy Turbo Tranny which he said should bolt up to my motor........any idea on my final drive?
  16. oh yeah - I actually did spend about 30 minutes looking for similar questions...sorry if I missed them however...I'd appreciate a link
  17. Hey there everyone, I've been thinking about putting a EJ22T into my 95 Impreza L for a while now. I've been talking to this guy who says he'll sell me EJ22T crank, rods and pistons for $150 shipped. I understand my deck will be open but is that a big deal? Please tell me your opinions on my decision, I'd appreciate any help. Feel free to tell me he's ripping me off or if you have anything to sell. I assume I'm also going to need the turbo, turbo cooling, exhaust manifold and up pipe and down pipe.....is that right? THANKS SO MUCH - Jutboy
  18. and your saying....youd expect to kill your motor realitively soon?
  19. Well, well, I'm back guys and have done quite a bit on my car in the meantime. At the moment I'm faced with a choice. I found a super cheap (and I mean cheap) turbo and intercooler system from a WRX 02. I want to wack it in my 95 Impreza L AUTOMATIC 2.2 Ej22 (110k - perfect engine) Now my first though would be no way - my engine/tranny can't handle it but I was talking to the guy and he said you could get a manual compression controller (???never heard of it before and some suggestions on what/where to get would be appreciated???) so I could drop the output to 8lbs. He said my engine could handle it easy. Is this bull or what? Is this going to cost me a lot in reliablity? Is this going to be hard as to mount? (I have a decent 1/8' welder) And lastly whats a good price for the turbo/intercooler (has less than 35k on it) Thanks for all your help - Jutboy
  20. Thanks everyone.....I changed the autotranny fluid twice (the first time using the seafoam tranny fluid)...I also changed the front/rear diff fluid and rotated+properly inflated the tires. It goes 90% and only has a little bit of a grind at the furthers angle you can turn the steering wheel, back off a half and inch and its perfect. I assume as long as I don't go all the way I can just leave it at that? Also, how can you tell if someone has torque bind in 30 seconds, drive the car? I was wondering how you can see if they need to have the clutches replaced? Thanks for all the help- Justin!!!
