  1. I admit, i haven't welded anything on the body, and I'm hack when it comes to welding in general (you shouldda seen the exhaust repair I made earlier in the year, hehe!).

But with the floor, etc - WHO CARES what it looks like! Just so long as it holds. It's maybe a good place to practice getting pretty.

Question - what kind of welder is best for thin-gague sheetmetal - wirefeed ok? Harbor Freight has a 90-amp wire-feed for like $100 bucks. yeah, I'm sure it'll die soon, but that's cheap tuition in Welding 101 or Welding 102, if you ask me.

  2. hold on, this might be a simple fix.

I think I know what you mean. That's a good idea - thanks. With the tinting in mind, it makes it not such a bad task anymore, since I end up with something better when I'm done, rather than just getting it 'back to normal'. I'm gonna pull the other side 1st to do the tinting - so I'll have a good refererence point on how stuff is SUPPOSED to sit in there, hehe. I know I'm supposed to mark the points, so when I have them side by side, I can transfer the marks, if that turns-out to be what's wrong.

  3. Yeah ... I was really surprised I didn't pop the glass with all the force I was putting on it ... I 1/2 expected that. That might have been an easier fix (just the glass) rather than replace bent door guts, hehe.

Live & Learn ... guess it's time to put the limo tint on there, too, while I'm at it, eh?

    Thanks GD

  4. I locked myself out of my Soobie tonight, and managed to pull the window back enough to get a stick thru over to the opposite rear door and pop open the lock ...

But by doing so, the window is out of track now ... did I bend anything ya think? Should I prepare myself for what I see when I pull the panel, or you think i can pop it back into place with everything off?

Manual says ther'es a weather seal, too - is that just a 'press-n-peel' plastic membrane?

  5. ... then go for a VERY spirited drive, and watch all the carbon and soot and other combustion byproducts and contaminants that had infiltrated your combustion chambers, and pretty well anywhere the sees manifold vacuum, BURN AWAY in a foul cloud of smoke.

I do this once every six months or so, if possible. The in fuel, and oil treatments are less frequent in my book.

Do you do it in a different neighborhood everytime? I would feel guilty doing it every 6 months ... when I did it, I had 2 neighbors come outside and look at me, shaking their heads, then going back in & slamming their windows shut, hehe.

  6. The only reason I would stay with the 13"s is that I can get my tires for $23 a peace in that size (165/70R13s) ... and that's just ridiculous. They're not off-road, or major snows, and they bend like waterbaloons around corners, but they're $23 each. from what 've seen, I can buy 3 sets of 13s tires for what I could buy a set of 14"s for.

Never thought about black stock & hubcaps ... I could check that out. Does anyone make a white-spoke wagon-wheel? I think I hve seen peeps with those - are those all 14"s?

  7. That happened to me, too. I lost more than that - I ended-up changing the timing, too. I asked the guy who helped me with the pull-out/chain-down and he said it "tighter" ... not very descript, and I'm not sure I bought it, but ... for me, I my life was in jeopardy because my landlady was going to execute me because Sue Bee was leaking in her driveway.

So I took the hit in stride...

  8. Yeah, see what I mean? it's a sizzor jack lift - able to fold over - it can carry "less" weight on it's push and has less travel, but it transfers load more evenly and can tuck itself into a tighter space. That EA82 has like a direct piston push. i can't imagine that would be practical. It can lift more, but th car can't hold it, and even if it could, the piston would punch a hole in anything underneath it & it'd be sitting on the ground.

I LOVE those Cab-overs, tho. Isuzu makes one in the US, I tihnk - and Diahatsu too - they're like 1-ton capacity and are only like 10 feet long, if i remember. too sweet! If only they had 4-wheel steering, hehe!

  9. Holy crap! And I thought I was cool converting my PICKUP to a dump-bed ...

    WOW!!!

(edit) And I don'r wanna be a Poo-Pooer, but I'm kinda dubious, tho ... what does that piston push on? ... seems like it'd have to have a sizzor set-up to make the clearances ...but I dunno ...

    McBrat - that for real?

  10. I'd vote for the CV joint(s) as well - it's usually a "clicka-clicka" noise, and usually when you're making turns it's more prevalent.

You might try experimenting with reverse and turns in reverse to see if you can make it happen. Also, check your CV boots - it they have slices in them, it's probabaly a given. How many miles?

Don't mean to Hijack, but I have a weird noise that's developed myself ...

My ROOF has started to "Boom!" when I hit different bumps ... it's pretty much just like the sound you'd make if you were pushing-down on it enough to make it crease. Sounds like a big drum.

To me, that means there's a new stress happenning on it. I'm not too rusty, but ... man, that would suck to have the unibody with a slice in it somewhere ...

    Anyone else ever have this?
