  1. I have an 83 turbo brat and its having a power problem. It runs pretty good, however, it has no power between 1k rpm and 3k rpm. Once you get it past 3k and the turbo is in full force, the car runs normal. The problem is apparant when the car is cold or hot. The problem is worse on hills. The turbo appears to boost normally. It dosnt sputter when its not responding, just takes its sweet time getting to 3k rpm. The brat has the 3at. Was hoping you all could help me define my problem.

  2. This is basically a should i buy question.

I have never owned a non EA Subaru, this would be my first EJ. I dont know much about them at all.

This is a 95 legacy lsi sedan. Its a 2.2 automatic. The car has 120,000 miles on it, no damage, all receipts, and its only had one owner. They are asking 3,800 for it.

If i could get it for 3,500, would i be getting a fair, good or great deal? It seems the lsi trim is fairly hard to come across.

What should i look out for on EJ cars? Trouble spots?

    Thanks for the advice!

  3. How about ea81 meet. That way there'd be more than 3 of us. lol

Sounds good, I would be down if it was at a time i don't work.

I was sad to see your friend sold the silver T-brat so soon. Did it not work out for him? I was hoping he was going to restore it.:(

    What is the third eye?

The center lamp found on the 1982 gls.

  4. now, about those engine bay pics

I will get some up soon.

I wanna know what a R1000 engine is

I think its a Suzuki motorcycle engine. The crazy bastard thought one would be fun in a brat. The brat was complete with motorcycle tac and sppedo, vinyl paint and a nice baja bed extender (i liked that mod). He hooked the motorcycle tranny right up to the drive axle and ran it rwd only. I wish i got some pics of it.

Moreover, That guy collects third eyes. He had 6 of them. I asked him to throw one in with the deal, but he said no. He just likes how rare they are. He has no intention of ever using them, or selling them, just likes collecting them as if they were stamps.

  5. Wow, where did that come from?

Never saw it for sale around here.

It was listed on CL with no mention of turbo nor did he post pics.

I posted the pics because i think they are the best example of a nice turbo brat, All the T-brats on the T-brat page are kinda fugly (no offense to anyone:) ). Even my old silver T-brat had a messed up tailgate and peeling paint.

These are glamor shots of the brat. She has a few imperfections. (engine bay looks great though). The guy i bought it from was a bit of an eccentric. He used the brat to drive to Idaho where he owned a gold mine. He also had another brat with a R1000 engine, 6 speed tranny, 19" rims, and he ended up using that car exclusively for making dump runs. nice guy though.

  6. Im just curious if anyone knows or has a link to how many brats were put into production on a year by year and model basis.(i tried searching, but no luck)

    If not.

Dose anyone know how many brats were made total?

    Total gen 1's?

    Total gen 2's"?

    Total Turbo Brats made?

How many Turbo coupe's were made?

    How many Turbo wagons?

    Long live the ea81T!

  7. I was thinking about looking at an ea71 that has been sitting in a garage for 7 years. I was under the impression that it is hard on the car to have it sit in the same spot for a long time.

What should i keep in mind when looking at this car?

What should be done if i buy it?

  8. Thank you for your encouragement.

Im thinking baby steps, or at least no leaps yet.

This is for a RX rally beater. Im thinking ill swap in another ea82T, learn from that experience (my first swap:) ). Then after mercilessly beating that engine into submission, ill do an ej22T:grin:

I think i found a ea82T and im excited to begin my first swap in the next couple weeks.

    Wish me luck!

  9. Little back story on the original problem... (you can skip to my question if you want)

I have an 87 rx i bought a couple months ago with 180k on it. Ran great when I was driving it home from bend, oregon to seattle. But it diddnt quite make it. I made it to vancover and the turbo stopped boosting. I was driving it kinda hard at the time on the freeway (it was fun though). I tried to rev it up again and no boost. Then, the engine overheated and blew the radiator hose.

I Did a quick fix to get the hose to work again, let the car cool off and started it up again. The car ran, but a little rough. I diddn't have much of a choice, i had to try and drive it the remaining 170 miles home. I accelerated very slow being sure not to engage the turbo the whole way home. I averaged about 50 mph on the freeway. But ,It made it home to Seattle! Car still runs, but runs pretty rough.

    Now for my questions.

What caused the initial problem on the freeway with the turbo?

    Is it fixable?

Did i crack the heads when it overheated and blew a hose?

Should i forget about my ea82T and swap?

  10. Hello all.

I just bought an 83 T-brat. Looks real clean, runs great... kinda.

I took it in for its last emission check and it failed. They said it is idling too high around 1,200 rpm. It passed the actual emission level (barely). Moreover, the temperature gauge is not reading at all. It will sit at the very bottom but ocasionaly perk up a little then back down to nothing. Lastly, they said the rpm under constant gas will not stay steady. It will idle at 2,500 rpm then drop to 2,300 then back to 2,500. Ive only heard of this happening due to a bad water pump. Is that my problem?

The car drives great otherwise. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  11. I am going to be upgradding to some 15" pug alloys soon. I will be going from the 4 spoke style (185/70SR13) to 205/60R15 snow tires mounted on the pugs.

    1. They will fit, right?

    2. How much will my power decrease? Noticable?

    3. How much will gas milage decrease?

    4. will tires of comperable tread patter handle better/worse in bad weather or in the dirt between the two sizes?

    5. Will they decrease the value of my car if i get rid of the original rims?

    6. Should i keep the original 4 spokes?

  12. I am curious. On my turbo brat, all the Subaru insignia is gold, including some of the trim on the bumper. All except the Subaru logo on the front grill. Its silver! Why would all the insignia be gold except one silver logo? Is it suppose to be silver? I only ask because i am curious if it has been in a light front end collision where they replaced it with a silver logo.
