  1. Hey daeron, I hope you didn't throw that away. My dad got $50 - $100 credit toward a new, modern Escort for turning it in with purchase!
  2. Oh yeah, On your swap, MPFI lookes real nice,hi-tech ", But... on these older Subes, the MPFI is not all you'd expect it to be, ALL the injectors fire at the same time! ALL of them! So why bother? the gas sits there getting warm and vaporizes more, (which is good). Repeat 3 times! Finally the intake valve pops open and it gets sucked or blown in. So, we have/A computer, a crank position sensor-(Dist), individual injectors, yet we had to wait for a "sequential" injector system (Only 4 more transistors to gate the appropiate injector open as determined by the crank angle! ) Sequencial is what a MPFI should have always been. Sheeessse.Soap box... Oh, yeah- I just remembered how I found that out! Had a spare rail, troubleshooting for gross injector problems so I hooked all of them up to see their spray patterns. Expecting 1342, I was suprised when all 4 kept firing at the same time! I thought my computer was broke, fubar'd! Dealer said nope! That's how they work. So, don't freak out if you see the same. I just thought it might be of some help knowing this in advance. Enjoy your project.
  3. Flapper is correct, wiring harness, puter, and about 25 sunny afternoons NOT fishing, biking, dating or doing something really fun. (this is what happens when you realise 10 yrs have gone by while I've been mukking around doing what i thought was cool- and missed doing what I loved to do. So, not yet mentioned or I missed it,,, what about the crank pos sensor? Xt turbo is in the distributor. Do all Subies have one there? Good luck.
  4. IF I may make a suggestion, DEFINATELY use a tach. It is almost impossable to hear 50 rpm, but on a tune-up tach that goes to 1500 rpm, it is evident! It "may" be dangerous, I've never had a problem with it, but on small, hard to find leaks, I use Eether, it gives you the most rpm change of anything. If you have the equip, try using 5-10 lb air press, and dish soap/water mix. everything will be clean when you rinse it off too. SO, HOW MUCH DO IC'S RUN, & FROM WHOM? I NEED ONE FOR MY TRUCK! thanks
  5. fuel ratio is fuel ratio. 16 to one, compressed, is still 16 to one. It only occupies a smaller space. When cooling it, you aren't removing any oxygen molecules, nor adding any. This shouldn't be an issue unless the IC is AFTER a carburator or injector body. Then,,,, fuel will wet the walls of the IC which could / would lean out the mixture. That would be my understanding.
  6. HI GUYS!!!! I just gotta respond to this thread!! I have a Passport E-50, by ESCORT. About $300. You should fully understand we can get busted at anytime by the instant on. You HAVE to use wisdom and choose the time and place. Most importantly, NEVER be reckless, drunk or race! 1) NEVER SPEED if your the sole car on the road. I used to get up at 0300 on Mon, Tu. & We. for that. (To burn the gunk out of my LOTUS) 2) Don't go significantly faster than existing traffic. ***3) ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS!- KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED. PERIOD.*** 4) and there's always the dreaded "unmarked". By the time you see the little antenna's----- Detectors are far from a free ticket to go speeding! But, I have been in a hurry but able to "duck" slightly behind the car in front of me, to slow down enough before "they" could see me or even get a lock on my car. Or if they did it was not worth turning around. I also think, that they may sometimes think, He's so alert! I'll get this D.A. on the cell instead. But probably not. My Passport has given me warning a l-o-o-ng way in advance that one very clever radar operator was way down the road; There was only one alarm on the interstate, then all remained quiet. After about 5 Mi., I figured he must have been going the other way. I had just pushed on the gas to resume my cruising speed, and there he was! Had he been another 1/4 mi. I'd have been one poorer man. I think the St. Patrol is trained to wait untill one is observed really speeding visually before firing the gun. ********** I HAVE even BEATEN LASER WITH IT!!!!!!!************* NO B.S.!! I will conceed it all to luck, but I was doing 90mph! Coming over a hill top, He lased my car, actually my windshield, before the whole car was visible to him. The ESCORT SCREAMED AT ME (LIKE A WOMAN WHO JUST WOKE UP AND SEES NOTHING BUT THE BIG FAT REAR END OF A TRUCK RIGHT IN THE WINDSHIELD)!,, I NAILED THE BRAKES, and got some "dumb stares" as I went by two cruisers!!! It was freakin awesome!!( The truck thing is a bad trick to pull on someone- especially if you scream first and hit the brakes right behind a semi!) Anyway, I really don't speed much anymore, but I still own a PASSPORT!! Why? Too many municipalities use tickets to generate funds to support the department! That's B.S. I refuse to participate. So I own one to back me up in case I ever get careless. Case in point? Maryland- 55MPH signs are 3ft tall x 2 ft wide. 35mph signs are like 12 x 12 - INCHES!!! AND GURANF-INTEE YOU, THE COPS ARE SITING200 YDS PAST THAT SIGN handing out U-OWE ME'S as fast as they can write them. Homie don't play that. "those kind can kiss my pink parts. I LOVE MY PASSPORT. The detectors never let you down, It's sort of like a sign a friend has in her shop, "I'm a beautician, not a magician!!"
  7. Hi and thanks in advance. How can this happen? Anyway I was having this funky overheating problem. The engine seemed to be running too hot but the radiator wasn't! The engine is new to me, was supposed to be good... I recently started using a laser thermometer and ... right side is 100 degrees hotter than the drivers side!!! 160 left, 260 right! Or worse. The cool left side had some gray RTV on it but not the right. The dealership trashed ALL their manuals over 10 yrs old recently so i can't see how and where coolant flows in the block! SACRILIGE. And I've spent two hours reading ALL the overheating threads, so I'm familiar with the consequences of overheating, It's the cause of, needing a good darn fix once and for all!!!!! Now for some real help! Thanks all Jim
