Glove box removal-How? 2003 Outback
SparkyCNY replied to SparkyCNY's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNow I know why the dealer charges so much to change the filter. At any rate, mission acomplished. I got on http://www.cars101.com and found the instructions.

Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) Location
SparkyCNY replied to SparkyCNY's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe air filter is right behind the throttle body. The air filter box is betweene the firewall and the throttle body.

Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) Location
Where is the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) on a 2003 Outback Wagon, 4-cyl? Does anyone have a diagram or picture? I want to inspect/clean the MAF. I mouse had gotten into my air filter and chewed a few small holes. (Life in the country) I want to be sure everything is clean. I've pulled everything off the throttle body with an electrical connection and don't recognize it. So either I don't know what I'm looking for or I haven't found it yet. I'm puzzled.

PCV valve location
SparkyCNY replied to SparkyCNY's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell I changed the valve today and it is onthe lower/engine side of the hose. It's really easy to get to. My valve was badly gummed up and didn't rattle The dealer asked for the VIN number to be sure it was the right valve. They said they hardly go bad. But mine, after 85,000, needed changing or cleaning. I decided to replace. The replacement was about $21. We'll see how the car runs now.

Crankcase pressure/PCV valve
For a 2003 Outback Wagon, 4 cyl, automatic, with about 85,000 miles. With the engine at idle and in park should I feel any back pressure if I put my hand over the oil filler pipe?

Oil Leak
SparkyCNY replied to SparkyCNY's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've got 85,000 on the car and the dealer just replaced the head gaskets. I guess they reused the old gaskets. Back to the dealer.

Oil Leak
I replace the spark plugs on my 2003 Outback wagon, 4 cyl. Oil had leaked into one of the deep sparkplug pocket (front driver's side.) (I don't know what else to call it). Is this from the head gasket or the rocker cover gasket? I recently had the head gaskets replace under warranty.

PCV valve location
Where is the pcv valve on a 2003 Outback Wagon, 4 cyl, automatic? There doesn't seem to be one. I took off the air cleaner box to change the spark plugs and still couldn't find it.

Head gasket replaced and now problems --pls help
SparkyCNY replied to yameyer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have exactly the same rough idle problem with my 2003 Outback Wagon. The head gaskets were replace because of an external coolant leak. I don't think any coolant got into the oil. The dealer has been useless without the CEL coming on. They think the roughness "isn't that bad." They cleaned the throttle body but that didn't help. I'm going to change the spark plugs and see if that helps. and clean the Mass airflow Sensor. The OWB has 84,000 miles.
