alright. my apologies in advance for any inability on my part to provide a proper explanation or details. that said...
i own a 4WD '86 DL wagon with dr MT.
over the past two days my father and i have been trying to discover whats causing a clunk in my rear suspension over bumps. we noticed the two big rubber stoppers in front of the rear wheels and assumed that they were contacting with the metal plate below it. in an attempt to remedy the situation we changed the adjustable suspension to the middle slot. this in itself managed to take us two days (one set of spring compressors had prongs that were too big, the other set didn't fit on the tiny springs properly. ended up removing the strut. SO much easier).
during this process i decided to clean my the outside of my diff (it appears to have a minuscule leak). used some petrol.
should mention that i also have a drift to the left and a wobble in the steering wheel. I've had all 4 wheels balanced and aligned. a couple of attempts at the alignment actually. they seem to think the radius arm is bent but it isn't.
the clunk remains. my drifting left remains. my wobble remains. still no idea whats up with them.
now, to the point, after doing all this I've been driving Susie (Susie Soob) around tonight and have discovered a problem neither my father or i can explain. i change gear, doesn't matter what gear, let the clutch out, put my foot on the accelerator and the accelerator barely moves. i mean like a few mm, 5 tops. put the clutch in and out again and normal operation resumes. it isn't every time i change gear by any means, maybe once in every 10.
any experience or ideas?
cheers,
fleaborg.
