  1. I am really looking forward to lifting my 4spd 83 gl, but I'm not to positive how to do it. I'm looking for possibly a website or a tutorial or basically any help on how to do it. I have experience on engines so I'm not a complete retard, but this is one thing i've never worked on before myself or with anyone so it's unfamiliar territory. Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Hey all, I have an 82 subaru GL 5sp, EA81 that had 140k miles. It was in great condition before I went over an embankment. The damage was some what minor to the front end but enough to kill the radiator and oil pump and some electrical wires. It currently doesn't run but could with a little elbow grease that I don't have time for. The whole body is in great condition, no rust that I've really noticed at all. The drivers side front fender is crunched, along with the front bumper. The passenger side fender is fine and so are all the doors, back hatch etc. If any of you need any parts off of this just let me know. I wouldn't mind a couple bucks for whatever, but for the most part it's up for grabs right now. Also the engine is pretty much completely taken apart from, except for the engine mounts and the tranny. The carb lines and others are labeled etc. Let me know. Thanks
  3. Alright, my 83 GL 4wd wagon has a 4sp that either needs some work, or replacing and I'm looking for some guidence as to what might be the best way to go about it. First and second gear work just fine, but shifting into third is a different story. The problem isn't getting it to go into the gear, but when you start to release the clutch it tries to pop out of gear, but once in gear and the clutch is out it runs fine. Also it has come out of gear on me before just driving with no gas and just cruising in gear. Fourth does a little grind to get into gear as well. I'm wondering if I should look for a new tranny or do a rebuild on the existing tranny. Any ideas or comments are welcome. THanks a lot.
  4. I'm curious as to what everyone has to say about each of these. Which is the most durable/reliable, or anything on them in general.
  5. Ok I have an 82 sub GL with an EA81 5sp that was in an accident involving an embankment and a tree stump so it banged up the front left end, took out the radiator and the oil pump and the left cv joint. The stump hit in front left and sorta right under the engine mounts and that caused the engine to ride up and back a little into its new position. Everything else looks pretty good except that with the engine being pushed back the tranny followed, moving the gear shift system towards the back of the car ripping off the rubber cusion, etc. The question is, is it worth it to take out the engine and replace the engine mounts so it rides in the correct spot and replace the radiator, op, cvj, and everything else and try to tune it back. OR to get something else with a more intact front end and swap the engine? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
