IF ANYONE KNOWS WERE I CAN GET A THROW OUT BEARING HOLDER/CARRIER PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! (its the chunk of metal the throw out bearing is pressed onto) Cause i cant find one online ANYWERE! thats why i was asking about the toyota clutch kit it includes a throw out bearing carrier/holder... -GwyNative

  8. yeah he wasnt really sure of year... They dont deal with to many older model subarus i think cause when i asked for the rubber pieces and bushings and what ever goes with the shifter pivot, they ordered the wrong parts...but luckly i needed more parts that go with the shifter and called them back and they said "you ordered those and there in" and i was all "those arnt the right parts" yada yada on and on any ways all my parts should he there friday...Hope they have the right parts i ordered or im liable to raise hell on them seeing how its taken me three or four calls, and three pictures sent via email just so they know whats going on... -GwyNative

  14. GD you sure seem to know your stuff...as for as a 5 speed, i will be looking for one and will change it over in the future but for right now i will have to work with what i have....Do you know if any subaru brat came factor with under coating? Mine has a thick almost tar like undercoating that saved everything underneath it...
  15. just called them and the guy said that all parts were availible, he said there were around 5? pieces that go on the end of that shaft? 33 bucks be in this wed. hopfully the new motor mounts will be in by that time....
  16. Im gonna call the subaru guys when they open, about the 5 speed, i did a search on yellow pages.com and got the numbers of all the listed junk yards/ salvage yard/ auto recyclers and called them all and none of them had anything...most i talked to eather didnt get it or didnt care that the trans i wanted didnt come in a brat... Is there a write up on putting a five speed into a brat in step by step easy to follow instructions, maybe with pics? Just built a 360 plymouth duster 3 speed and looking back it seem much easyer to work on than this... -GwyNative
  17. I would love to put a five speed in it but i have look/called everywere and no one has any 4 or 5 speeds...It also seems like it would be more complicated than just putting the 5 speed in, you have to modify things or send stuff to some one that can do it right? I just got this brat and drove it 200 miles in total, it been on jack stands for days... I just ordered some new transmisson mounts and some other small things, im gonna put it all back together this first of next week... I was wondering if theres any way i can fix the shifter pivot with out getting the parts from the subaru dealer? The shifter really just sits there and moves very little? Is there anything that goes between the plastic peice and the shifter pivot? why is the shifter pivot worn like it is? did the plastic wear the metal? check the pics of it in the photos section under shifter....thanks for any and all comments....-GwyNative
  18. I have read all the posts on how to fix the play in the shifter but i have a couple other questions...I have added a couple pics in the photos section under the name shifter...When i took the shifter out of the pivot on the transmission there was a little rubber? washer/spacer on the bottom of the pivot that was all torn and stuff, the other thing was this white plastic that goes down into the trans...the question is would is there anything that goes between the metal and that plastic piece and if not could that plastic worn the metal on the shifter end. With the plastic piece is in the trains and the shifter is put down through it there is a lot of play between the two...Has anyone got a fix for this? thanks (see pics in the photos section under the title shifter or shifter pivot)
  19. errr ummm, sure wished i would have thought of that before i took out my trans... oh well it was a good learning experience...Thanks for the help... -GwyNative
  20. Hi i was wondering how you can tell when the top of a axle has went bad? I think its called the doj? One of my front axles boot was off the top, i took it out and it seems ok but the grease looks all red like rust? Thanks for he help im a total novice at with it comes to subarus but im learin...-GwyNative
  21. For everyone that didnt read my "ripped off on ebay" threads heres whats happend and if anyone has any advise please let me know... 1985 brat: When i put it in gear right from take off theres these grinding sounds and vibration comeing from the stick.... I have taken the trans out and the throw out bearing looks good(tight with no slop). I talked talked to a guy today runs a garage and he said that it didnt sound like my trans for me to check the pilot bearing. so i took the clutch out and the pilot bearing looks great, no play, no slop, looks like it was just installed...The clutch looks good i have never seen one before but to the untrained eye it looks good, lots of "meat" left on it....This is one thing i noticed, that a few of the springs that are in the cluch(all in a circle and round) look like they have been rounded off or worn down? could this be causeing all my problems? It also has some slight play in it. Should there be any play there? Thanks for any advise you might have, cause im running out of things that could be wrong.... -GwyNative
  22. err umm...I just did a bunch of searches so never mind about the questions before....
  23. i forgot to ask if the 5 speed trans will go into my brat with no modifications? How hard is it to change it over? thanks
  24. wow thanks for takin the time to help me out...I have decided to go with the 5 speed trans because im not gonna put that trans back in there not knowing if its still gonna be doing what its doing...If you know of anyone that has one for sale or that knows were i can get one please let me know...Thanks again -GwyNative
  25. thanks for the response...How will i know if the bearings are good or not? and how will i know that the trans is no good before i put it back in? what 5 speed would fit my 1985 brat? thanks for the help...
