  1. I'm just hoping the price is very, very reasonable
  2. if the cam gear looks this bad, the crank gear can't look any better. I can't find parts for these motors anywhere either.
  3. Thanks for all the great feedback on this company. I believe a freshly rebuilt motor is in order, because this one is SHOT!
  4. thinking of ordering one, has anyone got one through CCR before? If so what were the prices like(they haven't emailed me back in 2 days .)
  5. you could paint it with a spray paint for plastics, and you could use 2-sided foam tape.
  6. look here, this will teach you how to read shematics. here is a list of commonly used components with symbol and discription.
  7. I'm thinking of buying a motor from CCR due to lack of availible parts.
  8. oh yea. Anyone know of a good subaru parts dealer?
  9. well, I got the heads off and what a mess inside the cylinders. and the crank gear is missing a few teeth, which means the cam gear couldnt be too good either. looks like a long, hard expensive rebuild is ahead.
  10. ya, it just took some wiggling and it popped right out.
  11. anybody find it unusually difficult to split the motor from the tranny?
  12. there was no coolant in the oil, just water, so hopefully the bearings are still good. I have a parts cleaner, so I'll probably break the heads down and clean them really well. Also I might look into having the heads decked for more compression.
  13. BTW... Anyone know of a place to get parts on the cheap?
  14. I've rebuilt chevy motors, so this won't be my first rebuild, And I have all the tools to do it. I'm just going to take it slow and learn along the way.
  15. yea, I'm going to buy the rebuild kit minus the pistons(Rod bearings, main bearings, full gasket set, timing set, oil pump) too bad it costs soo much...$263.99 from auto zone.
  16. A small fix is turning into a nightmare:banghead:
  17. yea, looks like it's going to be a full rebuild. I pulled one of the spark plugs, and it had some of that whit crap stuck to it.
  18. Things are starting to look grim... took off the valve covers to find this I guess water mixed with oil got in there somehow, and it sat there for a year. I'm thinking I should pull the motor now.
  19. ok, wrap your heads around this one. I drain the oil and out comes about 2 gal of water. This has me concerned because the car has been sitting like this for about a year(since it last ran). Need I do anything else to the motor, or can I go about replacing the HG and be happy?
  20. I want to change my head gaskets without pulling the motor. is it possible? I really don't want to spend a half day pulling the motor.
  21. actually no rust on this one from what I can see
  22. yup, I'm definetly going to have to fix my A/C with the harsh summers here in the California desert
  23. LOLZ no timing belts on EA81... mustve been a ea82 motor i was looking at. this is my first subaru motor, i've rebuilt chevy 350 motors, but theyre quite a bit different than these little guys
  24. Auto Zone has em. going today hopefully to pick up the "how to fix" book and the parts
