well the ECU ends 320 so it is non turbo, cam is on, now what to do with this turbo mess?
-
HA! now that sounds like me, why buy it if you can make it yourself.
-
did it sort of sputter of and on briefly when it quit or was it just dead? sputter probably out of gas, just died could be the belt like zapper said.

OK I've figured out how to put the pictures here but I can't make the files small enough that it will down load them. any one know how to do that with out making the picture into a usless postage stamp?
-
well I don't know if this will work but well see.
-
what kind of parts store did you go to that didn't have rislone? usually it is in the engine additives section. that's really weird. Does everyone tell you to do a 5 speed swap?
-
I'd read bits and pieces of the thread, but hadn't seen the numbers since they weren't complete. I'll have a look.

we should compair ECU #, this one is an 87 DL and now looks like a non turbo that had a turbo swapped in. So it most likely has an ECU that isn't set up for turbo I'm going to compair it to my other turbo GL-10 and RX, but it would be interesting to see what your XT has if it was originally a turbo.
-
well I had a brat years ago and if I remember it had a lot of unused plugs for AC and things it didn't have, there are also plugs up by the drivers side corner of the engine compartment that won't be connected, not knowing your level of knowledge this may be redundant. If you can put in a pic of what you're worried about that may help people see if there are things that should be connected to something. don't know if that helps or not

must be a text thing I haven't figured out yet or one of us need more coffee.

components match the diagram of a hitachi. I don't have anything carbed anymore but back when I did I thought they had the weber name or the hitachi symbol stamped on the side of the body didn't they? of course you usually had to clean a lot of gunk to see it

I dont KNOW it's the 9.5 compression engine... but it has the original XT spider intake and the engine is covered in oil, so I'm starting to suspect it was probably being pushed out of every seal by the excessive compression will be interesting to see what happens when I get that cam replaced. what do you bet the head gaskets are blown too?
-
what kind of mess are the previous owners likely to have made of this engine by putting a turbo on an engine with a 9.5 comp ratio? it's an XT 88 I got referred to in previous thread with a frozen cam on the drivers side. now that I'm looking up the model information this wasn't a half a$$ repair it was a total mod install of the turbo on something that wasn't supposed to have it. So... amusing or disaster?
-
not to be hijacking here since I will post this if I can figure out if it was actually what was done but, in theory what happens if a turbo was put on a non turbo MPFI? since the turbo engine with out the turbo ( from what I am reading here) lose power from the low compression will a normal comp ratio motor be way over compression with a turbo?

I couldn't find anything on the back drivers side last night, which would be similar to the location on other models, I can't find the other end of the sheared hose either :-\ I'll do some more digging after work this afternoon. at the moment I'm not convinced this is the original engine there are a bunch of hoses that were in weird places or just plugged like some one didn't know where to connect them.
-
no problem, good luck hope it goes well.

1980 ea 81 should be OHV are the covers on the sides the stamped steel usually blue? OHC will be cast aluminum covers on the sides ea82 if not too covered with oil grime to see
-
I think the bolt spacing is different but couldn't swear since I don't have any early 80's anymore. carquest lists a couple different ones for the 88 range. I don't know if you have them around where you are or if they also have the ones for early 80's.

Hey that's copyright infringemeny! I wonder why I like his car? It does liik a bit familiar.

you can get the do it your self radiator flush too. keep the heater on so it wil circulate through the heater core ( if it is passing any at all) most of those have you drive about 6 hours for the flush over however many days it takes, so you can see if that gets some heat back.
-
that's nice. I like that body style but don't see many. I think the tranny swaps are fairly involved, someone will chime in with more, especially the dual range because then you're talking a FWD to 4wd conversion.
-
the EGR pipe that comes out of the head under the drivers side is sheared off too, anyone know where it would end up on an 87 XT 1.8? it's different than my RX and GL-10s since it has the spider intake. can't find a diagram in the XT service manual I downloaded either. I don't suppose those can be plugged.
-
did you try a noid light to test and see if the injectors are getting a signal? or you can just pull one and see if they are spraying but thats the dangerous explosive way to do it.

the exhaust leaks are fine I guess the body is just too tight to let it in :-p
Odd noises
in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

clicking on turns is usually the cv going out. disc breaks have a wear indicator on the pads that will make a squeeky chirpy noise to let you know they need to be replaced.
