  1. Looking for the cone washers. Still have any used ones for sale?
  2. Thank you two for replying. I was afraid I had become too annoying of a poster that no one wanted to bother with me. I haven't given up yet. I finally realized that my oil leak was coming from the passenger side valve cover. And I realized I could take that cover off from the side with relative ease. Sure enough the valve cover gasket was broken so that got replaced as well as the grommets. It was a great feeling, fixing my oil leak. While I wasn't able to get very far with the timing belts, I did manage to get the outside covers off and the current TBs look pretty good so that buys me some time to figure out how to replace them. I couldn't even get the crankshaft nut off. I'm supposed to remove the starter and stick a pry bar into a flywheel to hold the crankshaft in place? Not sure how that's done yet. I think I will be able to replace the water pump (& gasket & O-ring & thermostat). That should take care of my coolant leak as I pinpointed the water pump area as the source.
  3. This is much more confusing than I thought. I almost don't want to bother with it anymore.
  4. Nevermind I finally got them off. Tight spaces and fat hands, not to mention the 100% humidity, 90 degree weather, gnats, and ants biting... it's a good thing I have a lot of patience.
  5. I started this project today. I'm having the darndest time disconnecting the radiator hoses. Should I just chop them up and replace them too?
  6. I skimmed through a few threads here... It looks like I need the 110mm version of the water pump, right? The car has a stock A/C in it.
  7. Thanks. I thought it sounded a bit excessive. 130xxx. I bought the car with 116xxx 2 years ago.
  8. I don't have much mechanical experience but I'm smart and confident (nerdy) enough that I can do this. My car is in my profile info. Here are the parts (from eBay) I've already obtained: 2 Timing Belts 2 Tensioners 1 Idler Sprocket thing 2 Camshaft Seals & O-rings 1 Crankshaft Seal 1 Oil Pump Seal & Mouse Seal & O-ring I'm not sure if I need to replace the oil and/or water pump. If I have the money, I guess I might as well, right? And if I replace the water pump I should also replace the thermostat too? A few weeks ago I sprung a coolant leak and I'm not real sure where it is coming from. I'll try to pinpoint it better before I start this project. Also, in some instruction guides it says I need to remove the A/C compressor to get the TB covers off, and that a real mechanic needs to depressurize the compressor or something like that. Another part says I need to remove the starter motor. Is any of that actually true?
  9. Hey USMB. I haven't posted in a while. I was wondering, has anyone made a cargo net to hold gear to the ceiling of their Soob? I have the sedan and the front passenger and both rear doors have a hand grip. I was thinking of rigging a net type thing to hold my Ruger 10/22 (kept in a clothe tube) and my Estwing camp axe. It'd be very taut to keep these items as pressed up against the ceiling as possible as well as to keep it from moving much or being seen hanging low. My soob isn't lifted or anything so unless a 4 foot tall person was intentionally looking up at my car's ceiling, I think it'd be a pretty well concealed deal. I attached a sketch of what it'd look like.
  10. Grrrr! I had left a message as soon as I saw the add but no callback. I'm sure it was gone almost immediately seeing as it was left at the mechanics.
  11. For sell in town (where Subarus are rare) . Here's the description: 91 Subaru Legacy Station Wagon - $150 Real rough body. I hit a curb and bent the strut? on the back left wheel. Drove it from Flour Bluff to TC Auto on Airline, can't afford to get it fixed though. It's still at the mechanics, looking for someone to pick it up for cheap. Runs good, and drove real good before this. New Tires... Things I need to know: if it's manual, if it's 2wd or 4 (because both were sold that year, correct?), odometer... what else matters for $150? Then what would I do with it? I can afford the $150 but I doubt I afford whatever that shop wants to fix it. I could put that engine in my 88 GL, right? Maybe keep it as a backup engine. My GL is a sedan and I'd rather have a wagon though. Maybe just hold on to the wagon until I can fix it up. Sorry for rambling on.
  12. http://s258.photobucket.com/albums/hh276/mantzorosbrat/ She's cute. And the brat's not too bad either.
  13. Interesting. I didn't know that Justys were the black sheep, as GD puts it. I was thinking about looking for one, but won't put any more thought to it. Besides, they're impossible to find here. There's a guy in San Antonio trying to get $2k for his, and it's not even in that great condition. (Justification is it's MPG.)
  14. Don't worry. I'm not doubting their abilities. Just curious if anyone has had past experiences, that's all.
  15. How do these old Soobs fare with the wear and tear of pizza delivery? I've had no problem with it being my daily driver.
  16. If I replace all those things when I get around to doing my TB, reckon my oil leak problem will go away?
  17. Yeah... if only I were so lucky to have moaning noises coming from the back of my soob.
  18. Just an update... The car did great, no problems whatsoever. In other news, I enjoyed a nice "Jailhouse Bock" from the Fredericksberg brewery. Just one though, had to get back on the road...
  19. I'm tempted to buy this car (after talking down the price) and selling mine. http://denver.craigslist.org/car/503191829.html It's newer. It's a wagon so I can move a lot more of my stuff rather than giving it away. There's no emissions "back home" where I'm moving to so the cat isn't a prob and I can replace the sensor. Too many downsides though... Going through all the paperwork of buying it and selling mine. The fact that it has 90k more miles. I'd still be stuck with an automatic. Not knowing its character and what might need fixing.
  20. Oh okay. I was looking at the USRM for instructions and must have clicked one too many links and got sidetracked. *doh*
  21. Is there a way to replace the timing belt without removing the engine from the car? If there isn't, what good is having a spare timing belt? Just curious.
  22. I'm taking a road trip with my subie that'll take approx. 20 hours. Obviously if my car gets hot I'll give it a rest but assuming everything appears to be running fine... I'm curious... does it make any difference to the engine if I drive it for several (10+) hours non-stop vs. giving it a say half-hour break every 3 hours? The car will be heavily loaded with all kinds of junk (basically everything I own). I plan on taking extra fluids and belts, my tools will be with me, a full size spare and the donut under the hood. Any other suggestions, tips would be appreciated.
  23. Thank you, GD and Gloyale. The CEL is now off. Also, I now know how to solder.
