  1. Ok, for what it's worth, the light came on at startup as I headed to work tonight, and stayed on long enough for me to read the current code. The only one that was flashing at that point was 22, knock sensor.
  2. Most helpful, everyone, thanks so much. At least now I have some starting points. Thanks especially for the photo, I wouldn't have had a clue where to find that one! What do you guys think about the knock sensor? I've seen the advice on wrapping the threads in teflon tape to decrease the sensitivity. What else should I look at or work on with that? Would a tapping exhaust pipe set it off?
  3. Damn, ok here we go... Just got my subaru ('87 EA82T), flew out and drove it 12 hours home without any problem. Well, except for that pesky intermittent CEL. The PO told me that his guy had traced it back to the knock sensor, and that it probably just needed to be cleaned up. There doesn't seem to be much pattern to the CEL. It doesn't stay on for more than a couple of seconds at a time, usually just a flash. It happens most when driving around town and revving and shifting a lot. But not always. It happens least when cruising at speed on the highway, but sometimes gets active then too. I pulled to codes just now, and I came up with the following: 11 Ignition Pulse/Crank Angle Sensor 13 Crank Angle Sensor or Circuit 21 Coolant Temperature Sensor or Circuit 22 Knock Sensor or Circuit 23 Air Flow Meter or Circuit Honestly, I don't even know where to start. I don't know a thing about 11 and 13, for all I know those are there because the car wasn't running when I pulled the codes. On 21, the temp gauge seems to be working ok, and I think that on 23 it would be running poorly if something was up with the MAF, right? As for 22, like I said the PO did mention that, so I'm sure that's an issue. Can other stuff trigger the knock sensor? I ask because the exhaust kind of rattles against the rear control arm sometimes. I don't even know how long it has been since the codes were cleared. Maybe I should clear the codes and see which ones pop back up? Anyway, I obviously don't have a clue, and would really appreciate any help you all can give on where to get started. A little bummed that I'm messing with CELs already, it has to be my least favorite thing in the entire spectrum of car ownership.
  4. Sorry to do this guys, but I'm not finding the answer either by searching or by digging around under my dash. Edit: Please disregard. I'm an idiot. Apparently under the steering wheel means just that.
  5. That's the one I got... Looks EXACTLY like the Viper they show as an example, don't you think? Anyway, here's the other one they offer, and it looks like it would probably be nice too: Totally different scoop, but it looks exactly the same on that Viper... They must have really good body guys. But seriously, that looks like a nice alternative as well.
  6.   Come on, I'm not that much of a d*ck! You guys have helped me out like crazy so far, I'm going to give back anything I possibly can! I found it by searching for turbo hood scoop (instead of just "hood scoop"... duh, forehead slapping moment there!), and got a whole page of results. The seller I'm getting mine from is zomkspeed, and they also list another kind of scoop that looks like it would work really well on the EA82T hood too. I didn't see that one until after I speed-purchased the first one of the WRX-copy I could find, but I probably wouldn't have gone with it anyway. The Calebz-style is the only one that looks good to me, hence my enthusiasm to find it. Plus, the wrx style looks way more functional for actually grabbing air and forcing it down onto the IC, which really is the only thing that matters anyway. The one I got was $25.99 shipped. Hell, maybe It'll become so popular, the ricers will think it was a rare factory option, and begin fearing the turbo wagons when they come rolling down the street. All I know is when I head back to Texas, I'll be the only ea82t wagon in probably the whole town, so my surfmobile will be unique regardless.
  7. Jesus... After spending about 4 hours last night (seriously, ask my angry wife!) searching ebay for a "hood scoop" without any success, guess what I found tonight? Yep, the "Calebz scoop". I feel like I should clue you all in, since the truly dedicated will find it anyway, and thus I can save the next guy like 4 hours of searching. On the other hand, maybe calebz had a point way back when... If you tell everyone, then everyone will have that same hood scoop on their ea82. Maybe I should just keep it to myself?
  8. I did, but being the "patient" guy that I am, I couldn't wait for his response. He did respond now, and did tell me what I had already figured. It was found on ebay, and it is a shorter version of the wrx scoop. Trouble is, I can't find it on ebay. Jon in Ky, any chance of some photos? I'll pm you.
  9. I mentioned this on another thread, but I really want to know so I'm asking directly... I have searched here for hours, but the best I can find are vague references to eBay, and I'm sure as hell not finding this style scoop there, again, after many hours of searching. I don't like the cheap ones for sale on ebay right now, and I don't want to mess with shortening a WRX scoop. So, where can I get one of these scoops?
  10. Ok, someone has to know where to get this style of scoop: I spent a couple of hours searching here yesterday, and the best I could come up with was that they were found on ebay. I'm definitely not finding them on ebay. Little help?
  11. Me too, but its so little! I guess it would be good for an offset installation right over the IC, but I'm just not sure it would move enough air. Plus it's shipped from hongkong, that's a slow boat there!
  12. I knew you were, junkie. I just needed to verify so I could make my order with confidence. hosetechniques is having a sale on silicon hose, if anyone needs some. I'm at $150 with all piping, BPV, silicon connectors, and Saab IC. All I need is mounting hardware and plumb the BPV, oh and a scoop. Stoked! I'm finding the stick-on hood scoops on ebay for like $20 shipped, two different sizes. Either 15x15: Or 6x10: I guess I can't go wrong with TOO much airflow, huh?
  13. Yep, easy as cake. I'm going to copy thesubarujunkie's setup from his ea82t. I got my Saab intercooler and my bypass valve on ebay tonight. Now I just need to get my tubing, my silicon connectors, and my hood scoop, and I'm good to go. I found a %50 sale on off-color silicon connectors online (I'll post a link after I get my order in), and the mandrel-bent tubing is pretty reasonable too. Anyone have a scoop I can get cheap? I'm looking at having an intercooler setup fully put together for under $200. I'll be sure to post a blow-by-blow (pun intended) how-to once I get my parts gathered.
  14. Score! I found guttermount racks that already have all the surfboard hardware built in for only $81 shipped by UPS. Don't know how many surfers there are here, but just in case: http://www.saltwaterdreams.com
  15. I agree. I found the FSM for my motorcycle online, and first thing I printed the whole thing out and stuck it in a binder. Not as good as a "real" book, but more to my liking, for sure. When I get to work I'll check out that online one and see if it fits my needs. And print it out with company paper if it does!!
  16. Anyone know what the OD is on the EA82 turbo outlet? I'm looking into putting together an intercooler setup, and I know the TB intake is 2 3/8, but I can't find a definite answer on the turbo outlet... Only that its different. I could always wait until I actually get my hands on the car, but what how I would I stay busy in the meantime?
  17. Sweet, you guys kick rump roast! I didn't see anything 1987 specific though, just the ea82 books on finleyweb. Will that cover the turbo stuff too?
  18. I'm looking for a factory service manual on ebay, and it seems like all I can find are these ones people are selling on CD. Has anyone tried them, and are they thorough and complete? I'm getting a '87 turbo wagon that has been fitted with a D/R 5spd, so I want to make sure I have plenty of information available to me. I'd rather have a hard copy to keep with me, but if a CD is all I can get, and it is good enough...
  19. Damnit, I hate when I do a search, find nothing, then make a post and immediately find the answer I was originally looking for. Makes me look like a BBn00b. :-\ Anyway, what I really want is yakima 1A towers and crossbars. I know that now. Thanks for looking, sorry to waste everyone's time and bandwidth.
  20. Now that I'm actually going to be the owner of a soobie again (I pick 'er up on saturday!), I'm already looking into making the necessary modifications for my lifestyle. First thing I need is a wide and sturdy rack I can strap a couple of surfboards to. The factory rack is too narrow to get two boards side-by-side, and the soob I'm getting doesn't have the factory cross-bars anyway. What I'm wanting is this: Thanks to subaru dude for posting that pic up, its actually almost identical to the one I'm getting, white turbo wagon. So, what should I be looking for to get this kind of rack, and where should I be looking? I tried the for sale section, but all I found was factory racks and unrelated stuff. If I search on ebay, do I have to look for a subaru-fit rack, or are there generic racks that will fit this body style?
  21. My '83 hatch was parked on the hill in front of my parent's house in the winter. The driveway was icy, so when my big ol' chevy pickup lost traction and slid backwards, it dislodged the subi from where it was resting. The truck stopped, but the hatch took off down the hill like a shot. It went hatch-first right into a spruce tree, caved in the rump roast end and sealed the hatch permanently. I sold it to a friend of my dad's who framed out the rear with some 2x4s and threw on a sheet of plexi, then used it for his paper route for like 3 more years. My 84 wagon was another story. I tried everything I could to kill that thing, it just refused to die. Damn I wish I still had it!
  22. YEah, like I said, I checked it out and offered what I wanted to pay for it. We didn't reach an aggreement, I'll just leave it at that since he does have an ad up here. So, if someone has a comparable car near alabama for, say $1000, definitely let me know!
  23. Well, I went and looked at the EA82 today, decided to pass on that particular one at the price he would let it go for. So, still in the market if anyone wants to hook a brother up!
  24. That's some funny ************ right there! Or maybe its just that I'm all looped out from working nights and am amused by just about anything. I think you're right about the legacy. Just doesn't really do it for me. I'm already looking into what is involved in doing the EJ22 swap into the ea82, though. Seems like that might be a better direction to go, eventually. Plus its a path many seem to have tread before me. I've never been one to leave well enough alone. The EA81 swap? Well, I did really love that engine back in the day... But isn't it way less powerful than the ej? I mean, if I'm going to swap engines and all... As for getting the crate of spares to haul around with me, I kind of planned on doing that for whatever car I use for my next surfmobile. Next question, where to get all that stuff? New/used/junkyard/dealer/alloftheabove? But I'm putting the whores before the cart and all that... Oops, I mean horse.:-p I've still got to go look at this thing tomorrow, see if it's even what I want. So, a couple of people have expressed the opinion that the price might be kind of high on that car? What do you all suggest? The asking price is at high dealer's retail bluebook, while high private party bluebook is like $1300 IIRC. Thoughts on that?
