  1. Hey guys. Its been along time since i posted here. since the old gl..... anyway i still have subys ( and two jobs to pay for them) as I am playing with two imprezas now. anyway, i have a friend who has an 83 brat who wants more power. not a ton for hotrod like speed, he just wishes he could commute at something above 48mph. Being a new gen guy i told him to throw an ej22 in it and call it a day. So he is considering this option. he was also interested in some of the companies who rebuild the older engines for use in planes. He is a real big fan of carburators, but has no qualms with going fuel injection. He would like to be able to swap in some kind of motor in a weekend, use the next weekend to tune it and get the bugs out, and then just commute and forget about it. Any suggestions for me? what companies are good to work with for these cars?
  2. Is the kid who put the EJ22T or EJ20T into his GL wagon on this board. I found a vid on Rallitek.net that is freaking crazy!!!!!!!!!! I wanna know if it is all wheel drive or just rear wheel.
  3. The "Bike Tight" on the 2x4 is a good Idea and cheap too. We also deal with many racks and reccommend the yakima because the connection point to your bike is just like the QR skewer. The thule has a wierd two sided mech-thing that if not done perfectly, will cause yourbike to fall to one side and break off the dropouts. We've put new forks on a few bikes because of this.
  4. You proved yourself wrong with your own post. If you go to that link and go to page 175, you will see that the block for the legacy Turbo is different- different part number. This block was only available in the legacy turbo or in the Liberty turbo in Austrailia. It is closed deck and has stronger internals than the N/A 2.2L. I have done much research on this because of doing a swap. The 2.2 Turbo has piston oil squirters whereas the N/A version does not. There is alot of difference between the inside of these motors. Yes the 2.5 is a whole different animal.
  5. Go Yakima. Thats what my shop sells (we canget thule too) but the subaru dealer sends customers to us because it is the same, but cheaper.
  6. To the best of my knowledge the 2.2L Turbo motor is the most reliable. THe 2.2L N/A is a completely different block being opendeck and all. Any Subaru EJ series engine will fit but wiring is a bummer. I am right now installing a 1993 Legacy turbo .2.L Turbo motor into my 95 Impreza. But why do you want to swap. The 2.2 is torquey!!! I gues not as 2.5 is but with the Hydra EMS or the Perfect Power and some exhaust... You'd be set.
  7. Are you sure, iknow i could be wrong on this but i thought i had looked my friends STi up, down and back wards. I have the brochure her at work, i' have to go see. I knewthe us STi had Driver adjustable center diff and that the JDM spec STI had a "performance" hand brake, but i didn't think it disconnected from the drive train. stranger things have happened though.
  8. Sorry WRXSUBARU, not even the STi has the handbrake that disables the center/rear diffs. It is only the WRC car. The handbrake can be used, my friends drive WRXs, STis, and i Drive an impreza it more isnt good on the car if yo udo it all of the time but some times, snow and rain, you need it to pitch the car. On gravel or even tarmac it takes a little left foot brake technique or larger inputs/lift- throttle to get the car pitched into the turn. I am only 20 but i have spent many hours in the gravel (and some in the ditch, Iam still learning) . Somebody said earlier that grip was the most important and Horsepower wasnt. I have to disagree with that slightly. There are times when more horsepower would have saved me by pulling the car straight, back into its intended line. A spinning tire has more grip than a stopped one. ight noww my car has a lot of grip, I have Kyb AGX struts turned way up ( my car drives like a go kart) with BFG traction T/A 205/50 VR15 tires. the thing sticks well, but powering out of the apex of a turn is hard. That is another thing, learnto be smooth. A local autocrosser was telling me what a joy it was to ride with this other guy because youcould never tell if he was braking or accelerating. He said "fluid" was an understatement. Always keep both hands on the wheel, only remove one to shift and put it right back on. Its hard on subarus but try to avoid shuffling the steering wheel. you have more control if you can keep your hands on the wheel and just x-up a little. But i know sometimes it is impossible. But hey, I'm no expert, i am learning something new all the time. Just practice. SAFELY!!!
  9. I have to get everything for the rear sway bar. Ihave a brighton and it didnt come with one. What all do i need?
  10. Though this has nothing to do with this, iwould just like to say: Blitz!!! ---Joe Strummer!!!!!!! (R.I.P) the clash are my altime favorite band and i wanted to meet him... Yeah I m friggin jealous oh my gosh, i would've given my left.... and well sheryll is pretty cute bu, Joe strummer. WOW you ar my hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way i am twenty and have worked at a bike/ ski shop for 7 years. Not to mention manage it. No electrical work though. I am scared of being shocked.
  11. So the update: 95 impreza 1.8L awd I recently got the kyb agx struts on all four corners. Adjusted to 3 in the front and 7 in the rear- stiff!! To day I got new exhaust. Iwent with 2.25" pipe from the cat back with a magna flow staight through muffler. THe car is noticible at wide open throttle but quite humble every where else. I did notice a little more get up and go right off the bottom and a pretty big pull at the top of thirs gear. The mid range didnt change. I also removed my snorkus a while back and installed a K&n. I believe it pulls better now. Around one of my favorite corners it pullled through the corner (pitched) a lot harder than usual. But my work is far from complete. The next three rounds of paychecks are going to tires. I am trying to decide between bfg traction t/a -z rated high perform. all-seasons or bridgestone potenza re750 ultra high perform summer radials. Any body had eithertire. Looking to see which is better in dirt. Both ar in the 205/55 r15 size. Leaning toward bfg's. After that i am going to do th e Pro ecm computer and new sway bars. As far as sway bars, if I go with a 20mm rear, what should I get up front to make it neutral or slight slight slight slight oversteer bias. ( even now with no rear bar when it snap, IT GOES!!!) Other suggestions are totally welcome and would be appreciated. Thanx. tyrod
  12. Push down on the rear o the car. If it bounces up and down instead of just coming up and stopping, then the struts are probably blown. That wa the case with my Impreza 2 weeks ago. Repaced the struts in the rear with kyb agx's. Turned half way up with stock springs and it rides better than my boss's wrx. The fronts are going in on thursday. But I have been thinking about replacing the bushings as well just for safety/ maintanence, well and for carving turns.
  13. Thanks Josh. Is he the same guy who does the PDM stuff? And have you heard of anyone that has used the new 2.8v chip? And what are your suggestions as far as exhaust size, I am think ing 2.25". Any thoughts. I think I would lose too much backpressure with 2.5" but hey you know way more than i
  14. Does anyone know where i can get one of these chips. I was going to get one from PDM turbos out of colorado but there site says they are closed indeffinately. Any suggestions? Anybody have one? do they work? Any suggestions on exhaust size for a 1.8L impreza? Also my impreza came sans an anti-sway bar in the rear. what all will i need when I in stall one? Put the rear AGX struts on and turnes them up half way. OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!! they are amazing. now i will get the fronts put on next week. Oh yeah. then a set of falken azenis 205/50-15 tires and I will be set. Thanx. Tyler
  15. Will wrx sedan springs fit on a 95 impreza with Kyb AGX struts? Need to know in a hurry. Tuesday they get installed. Thanx
