  1. How much does an EA82 engine weigh? Could not find in search. Thanks. KY
  2. Thanks guys, for the info. Yes, whole SPFI setup. I printed out the swap documentation, thanks for the heads up. It is a 77,000 mile car with new timing belts, manifold gaskets and tune up. The front left was then introduced to a concrete wall. So I am buying to swap it all over to my GL. I got the quad headlight swap items from Edrach coming so I should be in pretty good shape. Maybe look at an SJR lift.
  3. I have an 86 GL 4x4 wagon with the carbed 1.8. Bought an 87 DL 2 wheel wagon (yet to pick it up) with the 1.8 SPFI and auto tranny. I am keeping the 5 speed manual in the GL and plan to swap the SPFI in from the DL. Will this 87 1.8 SPFI with auto bolt right up to the 5 speed manual in the 86 GL? Thanks.
  4. I have an 86 GL wagon 4x4 with the carbed 1.8. I am getting ready to possibly purchase a complete doner, wrecked 87 1.8 spfi 2 wheel drive. I was wondering if anyone close to Central Kentucky (Frankfort) would be interested in doing the swap or know someone who could. I am limited on time with both working full time, kids and home renovations. I don't need another project right now but would really like to have this swapped into my GL. The SPFI only has 77,000 miles on it, recent timing belts and tune up. Whole car with front left damage. Let me know if interested. Doner has good interior and good low mileage auto tranny and rest of body looks to be good and if someone wanted rest of parts not used as partial payment, that works too. Thanks. Kevin
  5. Excellent. Thanks much. Kevin
  6. I have a 1986 carbed 4x4 gl and have found a doner. It is an 87 2 wheel drive 1.8 spfi with 77,000 miles. Literally, it was owned by an older lady that drove it to church, grocery and her sons house. The whole car is $200, damaged in wreck to front end. Engine and all but front left fine. Where is the link to the write up for swapping 1.8 carb to 1.8 spfi? How difficult of a total engine swap is this as far as what all I need to add from the doner? Is the SPFI run by computer or is it all pretty simple? Thanks.
  7. What year did the 1.8 first have the SPFI?
  8. I ended up removing the entire compressor. Thanks all.
  9. Yeah, I thought about that. Was trying to avoid opening up the lines and playing with Freon.
  10. My bad, I meant EA82. I first posted it was on an EA81. Looking to remove the pulley on my EA82. Thanks again.
  11. Thanks. I looked briefly in my Haynes manual, did not see much on it. My brother has a puller.
  12. My A/C pulley is locking up on me. I was just going to pull the pulley off so I could still drive it. I removed the nut off the pulley but can not get the pulley free. Is there a retainer still on this thing? Special tool to remove the center? I see two small holes for maybe a special wrench? On the 1986 GL wagon EA82. I can not just remove the compressor as it is on the inside and the alternator is mounted off the compressor on the outside. Just looking for a simple fix without messing with coolant lines etc. The pulley is in the way, can not just by-pass it with the belts. It is smack in the middle of where the belts need to go, can not NOT use it with it gone. Thanks. Kevin
  13. Looking at a head gasket replacement and timing belt change on our OBW. I am located in Frankfort Kentucky which is an hour east of Louisville Kentucky, half hour west of Lexington Kentucky and an hour and a half south of Cincinnati Ohio. Any recommended and or trusted mechanic for this kind of work on a 2000 OBW, 2.5 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all. Kevin
  14. Thanks guys, that is great information and makes me feel better. I know it feels a lot heavier than an 85 VW Golf I had. The doors are heavier and shut much more solid. We also have a 2000 Outback Wagon and it feels very solid and has great crash test scores.
  15. I am wondering how the old GL wagons and old Subarus hold up in crashes and collisions. I have an 86 GL wagon, run mainly around town in it and shuffle kids to school and other activities from time to time. I was just concerned how these hold up in a wreck or collision with another vehicle. Thanks all. Kevin
  16. Funny thing, I had thought the very same thing right after I posted this. Maybe its a bulb out. I had just checked them all not too long ago. Sure enough, front right turn signal bulb is out. Thanks all.
  17. My right turn signal all the sudden started blinking really fast. On all my previous cars I simply replaced the flasher. Refering to the manual it says to contact Subaru as something may be wrong in the signal system. Any experience with this? This is on my 1986 EA82 wagon.
  18. What is a fair price on a used and working SPFI system these days? Ballpark range. SPFI and fuel pump etc. Thanks.
  19. Thanks, that's all I needed to know.
  20. I am looking at an engine swap in a 1986 EA82 GL wagon. It has a non turbo EA82 carburated engine. JDM EA82 turbo engines with multi port fuel enjection and 40,000 to 60,000 miles on them can be had for $325 dollars. I was wondering if there would be any major wiring headaches or gas tank swap required going to this multi port setup? How reliable are these multi port turbo EA82. I see the write up for the carb to SPFI swap. Any information appreciated. Thanks.
  21. Thanks all!
  22. I just got this 1986 Subaru wagon (EA82) as some of you know who have been helping me out tremendously with information. Kudos and many thanks to you all. When I call NAPA to get parts, they want to know if it is overhead cam or valves and I know nothing about these engines at this point. EA82 does not mean anything to NAPA. What is the valve/cam setup for the EA82? All my vehicles prior have been Chrysler porducts with the exception of one VW.
  23. Going to replace the timing belt, was wonder what else to look at while in there. Saw this from Grossgary's post "inspect all of your idler pulleys and seals while you're in there - crank seal, oil pump seals, cam seals, cam cap orings. replace any noisey pulleys or leaking seals." I was going to do this because the EA82 has 149,000 miles on it and I have no history of maintenance. Just got the car. If the belt goes, do these engines survive typically or do most replace these at the recommended intervals. Any advice on what elso to look at and replace while doing the belt is greatly appreciated. New to these Subaru's.
  24. If you do toss it, toss it in the blue USPS can in a box marked Kevin Bishop 128 Iwant TheSPFI Frankfort Ky 40601 Thanks! I can not offer any advice with this particular swap but I am interested in an SPFI for an EA82. I wish you luck in getting it fixed.
