Snow tire Width reduction? For a GT, 205/55/16.
scooby dooo replied to SubeeTed's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHi, I run 205/60/15 BFG traction TA all weather but they're not that great for Nw England winter. If I were to get a dedicated snow tire what is the best size? 195/65/15? Thanks very much.

DOHC valve adjust
scooby dooo replied to Dickensheets's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy 2.5 200 legacy has it also at 105k, but when I asked the dealer they said they didn't think it was worth doing.

New to Soobs. What tires do you like?
scooby dooo replied to sir robin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have the BFG Traction T/A as well and the grip is excellent. They are a little noisy and I don't think they are going to last that long, but they handle snow and rain very well.

Tire rotation
scooby dooo replied to David Peters's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwhen i had my bfg traction control tires installed at sears i was amused to see that they used an impact wrench to mount the rims and then use a torque wrench to make sure they were sufficiently tight...right idea wrong execution i guess

CV boot/axle failure
scooby dooo replied to cfrench's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi had a cv joint fail in this way with no warning. it was fine and noise free until i accelerated through a u-turn and it flung grease about and seperated. it was a remanufactured half shaft.

Curious?
scooby dooo replied to Beaudiggity's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXmy 2k brighton has power windows. i'd guess that an accident that calls for replacing only the right rear door is not too worrisome. sounds like a fabulous deal

recommended maintenance schedule
Is it necessary to follow the recommended maintenace schedules? I have a used 2000 legacy, and I am unsure of the maintenance history. I asked about the 105k service at the delaer here in eastern mass and got a very ambiguous answer as to what it entails. Is this "valve clearance" inspection legit? I assume the timing belt/coolant flush/water pump needs to be done around now...brake pads maybe? The only things I've done to it are an exhasut donut and knock sensor. Thanks for any advice!

Tire rotation
scooby dooo replied to David Peters's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwell you'd have to remount the tires - big hassle

Tire rotation
scooby dooo replied to David Peters's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have a question on this also. I have BF Goodrich TA tires which are great for the money, but are directional. Can I rotate front to back only (no remounting) or as I suspect is it necessary to rotate diagonally to get even wear?

BF Goodrich Traction T/A's On Outback Wagon
scooby dooo replied to rem14's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI just put 4 on my legacy, 205/60/15. It was a very dramaric imporvement over the crappy firehawks. I don't think they're very loud and the rain traction is exceptional.

Remanufactured cv axles, good or bad?
scooby dooo replied to beezer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi had one shatter at about 20k miles once, but i think that's unusual

interior climate control stuck on cold
scooby dooo replied to scooby dooo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the suggestiong. I don't think it is the knob, as I have been able to change the temperature a few times. I turned on the heat for the first time this week and it stuck on hot for a day, then it was OK. Then it spontaneaously got stuck on hot (while the switch was on cool) but also went away. Currently it is on cool.

interior climate control stuck on cold
Hi, My ventilation is alternately stuck on hot or cold. The heater and AC both work fine, but when changing the temperate it seems to get stuck. Right now it is stuck on cold. Turning the knob has no effect. Last week it was stuck on hot. Any clues? It's a 2000 legacy wagon. Thanks

2000 Legacy howling noise
I have a 2000 legacy 5 speed manual. It makes a subdued howl/humming when in first gear, disengaging or engaging the clutch at low speeds. Does not make the noise in nuetral or at higher speeds. The car is otherwise mint and was a good deal at 6700 with 95k. Any ideas as to what this noise could be?

help me decide on wheels for a 2005 subaru baja turbo
LOL, I think you've all been had. I can't imagine anyone could write that without the old tongue in the cheek: not to fancy, not to bland. the rice boyz' girlfriends will be like.. whoa he's a hot boy! the subaru owners will be like, that sure looks supafly, and the punk in the jeep cherokee trying to cut me off thinking i have a slow pickup wont be able to finish his sentance as the rims blaze past the fibers of his exsistance on I-90!!

I'm smelling anti-freeze
scooby dooo replied to envy_petter's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo they won't extend to your 2003 the 100k hasket warranty that they normally apply to the 2000 I have. That's a bit fishy methinks.

A Clunk in the rear... worn shocks?
scooby dooo replied to syphon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHave you already replaced the front struts? My 93 legacy complained about struts in the front around 150k, but never rear.

heat shield (exhaust) rattling solutions?
scooby dooo replied to flash's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwhat's the reason? i try not to park on hay but have never had a problem.

heat shield (exhaust) rattling solutions?
scooby dooo replied to flash's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWow that's so easy I have your answer: yank them off. Or have your dealer do so if you are not inclined. I removed a heat shield from my 93 6 years ago and just had the dealer remove a few from my 2000.

legacy recalls
scooby dooo replied to scooby dooo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMine runs fine so far. Oddly the mass emissions inspection didn't use the dynamomoter due to AWD, infact they didn't even probe the exhaust.

legacy recalls
scooby dooo replied to scooby dooo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwell it looks like I will be trading my 93 2.2 and a few grand for a 2000 2.5 tomorrow. I'm a bit leery but I can't find anything wrong with the car and it drives beautifully. My 2.2 runs OK but needs brakes, axles, struts, body panels and is poor on safety with no abs, passenger airbag (unless you count the wife). I'd really like to hear from anyone who has any tips on preventing HG problems...it seems obvious to me that I should monitor temperature and carry coolant in the vehicle. Please share any tips you might have on this vehicle O wise subagurus.
