  1. I was looking at past threads about the feasability of using wheel adapters to convert the old Subarus from 4x140mm to 4x100mm. most people adree that the 4wd hubs would make this nearly impossible. I was wondering if anyone thought to try machining adapters to convert to 4x130mm. Its the pattern for vintage vw bugs. this may allow clearance around the front hubs as well as be able to use the 15 in. steel wheels for baja bugs that come in sizes form 5.5 inch to 10 inch.
  2. I was looking for a replacement for my tired leaky 200k ea82 and was trying to compile data to build the simplest ea series engine for my 85 wagon. I was thinking EA81, Weber Carb Conversion, handbuilt header, and eliminating any emmissions. I was wondering if anyone knew anymore ways to simplify my build as well as make a little more power. are there any ways to increase compression, maybe convert over to a points style distributor, just the basics really, I've never gotten to the subaru engines, just volkswagen and nissan. any Ideas, Parts for sale or parts to look for?
  3. So, I'm looking to purchase a 1987 RX and i was looking for suggestions on possibly modifing the engine for just a little more power. I know full and well that these engines have their share of problems and that the platform is pretty much dead, but i enjoy the car and engine just the same. I've heard about adding a WRX intercooler and turbo, New exhausts, and intakes. I was curious about any fuel system and ignition system modifications that work as well. Any thoughts?
  4. I bought an 85 GL wagon out of a yard and got it running. Starts and runs great for about a quarter mile and then stumbles. if I pump the gas I can keep it running but the minute I try to move it just stumbles flat on it's face. I'm thinking it might be water in the gas, possible bad choke, or that I have a fuel delivery problem in the pump, filter, or carb. I added water remover and am waiting overnight to see if it makes any difference. If anyone has the same experience or ideas, I'd love to know. I'm not too shure if it matters but it is the hitachi carb.
  5. if so, what else could make that idler release tension? I'm removing the tensioner this weekend. I'll take pictures and document my findings for the site.
  6. Does anyone have any info on the proper procedure for a timing belt tensioner replacement? I know there is a unique oiling procedure and I'd like to know how. Thanks!
