Keep it or Sell it!
murphsubaru replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe emission code is 440-evaporative gas fumes system. Exhaust is breaking at a flange behind converter. I won't by another Subaru, this has been the most unreliable car I have ever owned.

Keep it or Sell it!
I own a 99' Forester with 190,000 miles. I am trying to decide if it is time to sell. It needs an exhaust system, new tires before next winter, regenerative gas fume system repaired before E-check in March, it is burning oil (2 quarts per 7000 miles), leaks transmission fluid, and cv joints are clicking in sharp turns. It only has a few rust spots. Interior and exterior are fine. It runs fine. Any thoughts?

Warped Front rotors
My 99 Forester continues to warp front rotars. I thought I corrected this problem with the last brake change by replacing the front pads, rotors, caliper pins and carage barackets. A few months later one of them is warped. Any suggestions.

Timing belt lifespan
murphsubaru replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI am not sure it's worth spending $500.00 on a timing belt change on a car with high mileage and rust. Maybe I should wait until the belt has 105,000 miles.

Timing belt lifespan
How long do the replacement timing belts last on a 99 Subaru forester. I had mine replaced by the dealer at 90,000 and now have 177,000. Do I need to replace belt at 180,000? Do the replacement belts last longer than the original belt? Thanks

Power Steering Pump Failing??
murphsubaru replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's an automatic, yes tires pressure is correct, belt fine, fluid changed with rack and pinion replacement. Sometimes on the freeway steering feels like it is tight or stuck. This problem started about a month before the rack started leaking. I had to occasionally add fluid.

Power Steering Pump Failing??
I just replaced the rack and pinion on my 99 Forester with 169,000 miles. It was replaced because it was leaking. Before the replacement, occasionally the steering felt stiff especially around curves and corners. The problem remains, is my pump failing????

Odd Knocking sound
My 99 Forester with 167,000 miles is making an odd knocking sound from somewhere in the engine. I only hear it at idol with my head under the hood. Could this be the waterpump bearing failing? It was replaced with the timing belt at 90,000 miles. This sound a lot like the sound my 1980 dodge cold water pump made when it was failing.

Spark plug wires
Is it likely that I would need to replace plugs or wires after 50,000 miles? The car runs rough when first started after it rains. I spritzed the wires with water and saw some minute sparks in a few spots. This car has 153.000 miles. The wires are subaru wires. I did not see any arching on the distributor.

Changing Fuel Filter
murphsubaru replied to murphsubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere is no specific fuse for fuel pump, and I cannot find any wires infront of the rear right wheel to disconnect fuel pump. I see a wire coming through body pan and into tank. Is there a fuel pump disconnect on a 99 Forester?
