  1. all new timing components. torqued to specs. The noise isn't very consisitent. When you start eh vehicle is itsn't there but after you drive it or rev the engine for a while it comes into play. Took the acc. belt off and didn't go away. Since i can only hear this noise from the drive side seat i listened under the car and could faintly hear it, i will get someone to rev the engine for me later on and listen. So, the noise comes along stronger with the duration that the car has been run. increases with rpms. not acc. related. can only hear it from the drivers seat does not change in or out of gear. you can definatly hear it have a different coast sound that drive sound. (throttle vs. not on the throttle) thinking it could be something in the forward part of the tranny. what spins with the engine when not in gear. looking more and more like an engine pull this weekend.
  2. this is the same original noise that i diagnosed as a timing issue but not sure if it is. Pretty stumped and pretty disgruntled. I can't imagine what would make this noise now that i changed the timing components. The strangest thing is i can hear it real well when i put my head closer to the floor of the drivers side.
  3. well that is good to know..... makes me think this nose might be something else then, kind of concerning. i put on all new seals on the timing cover. havn't torn it apart to take a look. Went for a 15 minute drive and by the end the loose chain on a gear noise was getting a tad louder. It is linked to the engine i'm sure of that, could it be something in the tranny....?
  4. so just replace the timing belt, all pully's and new tensioner. started it on the stands and sounded nice, no noise or anything. put everything back together except the power steering pump (rebuild kit is on the way) though i got all or the fluid out of the power steering lines but nope, it decided to leak all over the top of the timing cover when i was turning the wheels. ( i am retarted) you shouldn't hear any noise from the timing area....correct? so looks like i'm going to have to do this all over again. If i clean my timing belt real well can i use it again? Any way to clean out the bearings on the new pullys in the timing area or am i going to buy another timing kit and do this alll over again. or.....could this sound (sounds like a chain running over a sprocket and a medium pitched whirring) be something else. ************.
  5. Now i am hearing a very faint higher pitched screal. not driving the car till i figure it out. I can only hear it when i'm driving/ sitting in the the car. when i listen in the engine bay i can't hear it. Can hear in gear and out of gear, speeds up as rpms climb.
  6. 150k on the car. not sure on the timing belt. but going to change it this weekend. sounds a bit different on the left side head than the right in terms of clicking. Going to adjust the valves this weekend also.
  7. have a 94 impreza and notice a slight gear noise coming from the engine at idle but goes away when reved. should i be worried about this...
  8. just got a 95 impreza 1.8 and it has a few quirks. first of all, with steady pedal pressure sometimes the engine will surge a little when in lower rpms. any hints...? second, when i turn right and accelerate there is grinding coming from what i suspect is the front right cv axle. does this sound about right? any special tools needed or should have to make this easier to replace? third. above 80 there is a pretty solid vibrations coming from somwhere, not sure where though. could this possibly be the bad cv axle rattaling around. fourth. Went over a large speed bump and then came a big squeeky syspension noise from the right front.....bushings somewhere possibly bad...? just looking for some hints before the tinkering begins!
  9. Just looked at a 1994 Impreza wagon .AWD. 5 speed. Manual locks/windows. It has 150k on it and seems to run good. burns a small amount of oil outside of the motor (oil leak). Seems to come from the top part of the engine. Not sure when the oil was changed last but it looks great. Where are the usual leaks at? Body has a few dents and has a salvage title from front drivers collision. Has all been replaced. There is a slight leak under the passenger front seat dash, any particular place to look for this leak? Is there anything special that i should look for? i.e. cracks in specific areas or something that will eventually leave to a failure of some critical component. Is there any recalls or faults that pop up again and again in this specific make/year of car. What parts usually goe around this mileage and what can i expect to replace soonish down the line. Has a bad passenger side cv axle but a good one from a parts car comes with it. Also the rear wiper doesn't work but is probably a fuse or something relativly easy. Got the guy down to 1400$ for the car, sound like a good price? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance:banana:
