  1. here it is, it was $700, I'll post more pics of the interior and the engine, but i bought it from some meth head so there are some crazy things going on with it haha.
  2. Max Rpm would be higher but that doesn't mean your getting the most power at the max rpm.
  3. I will have pics up tomorrow after I purchase it (if it passes smog). And im not really looking for a race car just some parts to make it run more solid, as it will need some parts replaced. I also have a Hanes manuel that I bought for my '84 GL and I think it will work for the '79 Brat but it says it only goes to 1980, will it work???
  4. I am about to purchase a '79 Brat that has a few problems but I believe it is a good deal. The only current problems I can see are a cracked cv boot, the guy put a new fuel pump on it that is set at 9psi, he said the factory one is about 3-4psi, so the car dies sometimes when coming to a stop. I believe that these problems will be pretty simple to fix, but let me hear what you guys think. I also would like to know about performance parts and the jumps seats (does any one have some or know someone who does??) thanks shane

    I heard i could get a cross-member for mounting the 5 speed to the EA81 body from you.

    if you could tell me what else i would need to put the 5 speed in the EA81 please let me know.

  9. Thanks for all the replies does the 5spd fit up with the 4WD 4spd??, I forgot to put that in the original post. How much would a 5spd tranny cost and which one would I get??
  10. Hey guys I'm trying to fix this old GL I have laying around but I can't find any place that sells transmission rebuild kits near Sacramento, if anyone can help me that would be cool thanks guys.

Ya I think for now I'll just use it as a commuter but maybe in a little while I'll swap the EJ22 if I dont feel like just keeping it classic because this car will always have a little place in my heart just like my other car which was a '64 VW notchback. But I'm going to work on the car this Saturday I'll take some pics and figure out a little more with whats wrong so you guys might be able to give me some tips on it. What you see may not be what you expect haha but it has been sitting for 5 years so we'll see:)

  13. Yes but I will be moving out of state soon and I would get the car smogged in my home town and only drive to there and from the city. And yes the laws in California suck but isn't there ways to make the car run cleaner emissions with mods??
  14. Hmm good point and I do want a reliable car mainly just seeing what power mods i could do for it just to get some more umph from it. I could get the car smogged when its all legal and then add some mods after that can be switched out everytime i need to smog, if im not out of state by then. I mean who's gonna pull over a 84 soob because they think its got illegal parts haha. I think the carb is a good idea probably one of the first things I would do and I also found a way to fab up a cold air intake. But that will be for later. I will update you guys on this project with pics, problems, ect.. but for now i can only write being the car is about 150 miles away from me and I only get to see it once every 2 weeks. But does anyone have a ball park of what this will cost???

Well like I said the last time I was driving it was when I was about 15 and its actually the car I taught myself to drive a stick (hence the new clutch:slobber:) but the car would have a really hard time shifting into 3rd and 4th unless at really low RPM's (2,000-2,500). That's I really know about it as of now I need to get it started again to see what else is wrong with it. But do you guys have any suggestions to get more power out of it and how much this total project is gonna cost. I don't mind the cost much I just love this car its been in the family for years and I've always just loved it so it would mean a lot for me to get this baby running:banana:
  16. Hey everyone, So I have a 1984 4spd 1.8L Base GL Wagon. That has been sitting in my parents back yard for about 5 years since the last time its been driven. I'm currently living in San Francisco and need a car to commute from here back to my old town near Tahoe. Now the car does have a few problems but I think with a little bit of work it would be up and running just fine, but I'm no expert just kinda of hope, that's why I'm here. So here are the problems- -Transmission either needs to be rebuilt or replaced -CV Joints need to be replaced -Clutch needs to be replaced -Tires need to be changed -Needs a Battery Now I believe this can all be done reasonably cheap but now here's the next thing when I was about 15 I used to use this car to learn how to drive a stick and made a little ralley course in my back yard. It was a pretty peppy ride from what I remember and I loved it. So I'm trying to get it back on the road and hoping to add a little more power to it as well.
