  1. solved the problem, just got a 10mm bolt, screwed it into the hole (perfect fit). vuala, no more gas everywhere and a perfectly working carb.
  2. thanks, there was alot of debris (mainly leaves) on the vents I cleared it off when I started driving the car. we'll see though, it's a really loud noise, i don't think a leaf would make that much noise. i'm thinking more on the lines of bearings, though fan speed doesn't seem to effect the sound at all. Is there a vacuum system related to directing fins for air flow, or for turning the A?C compressor on or off ( I think on defrost the car runs the air through the compressor to dry it). just some of my own ideas, correct me where I'm wrong.
  3. the carb on there before didn't have a fuel return, it was an identicle weber but the fuel line came in the opposite side and the other was plugged (looks like it was manufactured that way, not a thread in or anything or I'd use that).
  4. will that happen specifically on defrost? all other settings don't have the same noise, it's kinda wierd. :-\
  5. hey, where might i find a plug to fit the fuel intake on a weber 32/36 dgev. i just installed it and the opposite fuel intake to the one i'm using is spitting out fuel (doesn't have a plug). where can i get a plug for this or what size bolt could I use to plug it with? thanks for any help/ advice.
  6. Hey, just another little thing goin on with my car (other stuff here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50654) most of the time right when I turn on the defrost there is this mid pitched whining, thought it mught be the electric fan kicking on and rubbing against something but I don't think thats it, I made sure ther isn't anything even remotely close to the fun to rub. The noise doesn't last more than maybe 20 or 30 seconds then it stops and comes back randomly if I leave the defrost on, usually turning it off then on again makes it stop. Could it be the AC pump or something else. Anyone else dealt with this?
  7. The heater seems to work fine. Thanks for the info subarian, I was hoping it was something common, the reservour is bone dry, i'll fill it and "massage" out the bubbles again (already did that once today on the thermostat swap). thanks again. anyone else have ideas on the rest?
  8. WARNING: LONG POST :-\ hey, i'm back to driving my old 90 loyale. my sister traded it back to me for a 350 dollar 81 celica cause she was sure the headgasket is going on her loyale. i started driving it around today and i noticed a few things but don't think it's the headgasket, i'll list what she told me and what I've noticed so far and see what you guys think: What she siad: -recently lost a bit of power(not that it had any before) -intermitantly blows white smoke out the tailpipe -white smoke emmits from under the hood at stops What a shop siad: -One of the spark plugs is pulling out -coolant leaking from thermostat housing and maybe elsewhere (thus smoke from hood) -headgasket going based on my sisters observations (she wouldn't let them tear into it - $$) What I have done and observed today: -I put in a new gasket on the thermostat (w/ a new thermostat) and refilled the radiator (it was pretty low), as well as topped off the oil ect. -while driving the car seems the same as when I drove it, however i noticed once while driving around 25 I stomped on it and it didn't go at all (not even a slow acceleration due to lugging) I down shifted and it went fine. -I'm also noticing a sloshing noise coming from what seems to be behind the dash. Thats what I've got so far. The car has a pretty interesting history, at least as long as we've had it. -the summer after i bought it after replaceing the water pump i blew two hoses and the car really liked to run hot (never overheating though, i always had my eye on it), solved this by replacing the radiator. -My sister then drove the car and noticed the 4 didn't work any more, she just kept driving it until the growling from the back got so bad she took it in and found out the drive shaft was screwed- replaced it. -she had the oil changed right before a trip to canada, they forgot to put her oil cap back on and she drove it till the engine got so loud she stopped and popped the hood, oil everywhere and cap sitting nicely on top. They gave her some free oil changes and she was happy (she shoulda made them buy her a new engine) Thats about everything. Thanks for enduring. Any ideas?
  9. Hey, I know there are threads on this topic and i've read most of them, but I was just hoping to get some direct feedback. How easy is it to swap a legacy (i think it's a 92 or 93) engine into a 90 loyale. What modifications need to be made and how long will the swap take (only have a few days to do it, gotta be done before my sister goes back to school). Also anyone who's done this what things did you run into and what should we watch out for during the swap? just hopin for some advice, thanks for any comments. Ben Would it just be easier to sell the loyale (we can get around 500 for it the way it is, the thing is spottless but the head is going) and buy a good legacy chassis to drop the engine into? thanks again
  10. I'll let you stuff that engine into my 81' Celica if i can keep the car at the end... and drive your car while your doing the swap. just for fun.
  11. Thanks. The engine hasn't been overheated yet. The Gasket is "going" meaning there's steam coming from under the hood and out the tailpipe, but it isn't overheating. So I think the headgasket replacement would be my best option. The car is in incredible shape (all the bottom panels have been coated with rust-resistant crap- it looks like truck bed liner- and repainted) time is my only problem, school is pretty busy right now, maybe during thanksgiving. thanks again.
  12. My sister's 90' loyale (my old car) has a blown headgasket (still runs, but spews white smoke periodically). I hate to see the car go and would love to fix it. The interior on this wagon is spotless. Is it worth it? has anyone rebuilt one of these guys? how much did they invest? I searched but the search function on this forum kinda sucks. didn't show any results. Thanks for any advice. I'm fairly car savey, but am still learning alot.
  13. hey, its been awhile. Been busy with school. anyway, my sister's 90 loyale (my old sube) is pulling to one side when she is using 4 wheel drive. she puts it in and it seems ok, but then randomly it will pull to the side. She thought at first that it was just slipping on the ice but then in the dry weather it did the same thing (she put it in to test it). I took it for a drive but didn't notice anything just driving, just that when I put it in and took it out, while moving, it clunked really bad. She hadn't heard that before, but she also only put it in and took it out from a stop. any help would be awesome. thanks. I did do a search and couldn't find anything right off hand.
  14. my old 92 Loyale is about that gutless, used to get passed by semi's on trips, my "new" 84 GL has a bunch more power, might be the fact that the car only has 88K miles as to the 200k on the loyale though. just my experiance, also if I recall when first bought my Loyale I thought I was told to expect it to be gutless:burnout: .
