  1. solved the problem, just got a 10mm bolt, screwed it into the hole (perfect fit). vuala, no more gas everywhere and a perfectly working carb.
  2. thanks, there was alot of debris (mainly leaves) on the vents I cleared it off when I started driving the car. we'll see though, it's a really loud noise, i don't think a leaf would make that much noise. i'm thinking more on the lines of bearings, though fan speed doesn't seem to effect the sound at all. Is there a vacuum system related to directing fins for air flow, or for turning the A?C compressor on or off ( I think on defrost the car runs the air through the compressor to dry it). just some of my own ideas, correct me where I'm wrong.
  3. the carb on there before didn't have a fuel return, it was an identicle weber but the fuel line came in the opposite side and the other was plugged (looks like it was manufactured that way, not a thread in or anything or I'd use that).
  4. will that happen specifically on defrost? all other settings don't have the same noise, it's kinda wierd. :-\
  5. hey, where might i find a plug to fit the fuel intake on a weber 32/36 dgev. i just installed it and the opposite fuel intake to the one i'm using is spitting out fuel (doesn't have a plug). where can i get a plug for this or what size bolt could I use to plug it with? thanks for any help/ advice.
  6. Hey, just another little thing goin on with my car (other stuff here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50654) most of the time right when I turn on the defrost there is this mid pitched whining, thought it mught be the electric fan kicking on and rubbing against something but I don't think thats it, I made sure ther isn't anything even remotely close to the fun to rub. The noise doesn't last more than maybe 20 or 30 seconds then it stops and comes back randomly if I leave the defrost on, usually turning it off then on again makes it stop. Could it be the AC pump or something else. Anyone else dealt with this?
  7. The heater seems to work fine. Thanks for the info subarian, I was hoping it was something common, the reservour is bone dry, i'll fill it and "massage" out the bubbles again (already did that once today on the thermostat swap). thanks again. anyone else have ideas on the rest?
  8. WARNING: LONG POST :-\ hey, i'm back to driving my old 90 loyale. my sister traded it back to me for a 350 dollar 81 celica cause she was sure the headgasket is going on her loyale. i started driving it around today and i noticed a few things but don't think it's the headgasket, i'll list what she told me and what I've noticed so far and see what you guys think: What she siad: -recently lost a bit of power(not that it had any before) -intermitantly blows white smoke out the tailpipe -white smoke emmits from under the hood at stops What a shop siad: -One of the spark plugs is pulling out -coolant leaking from thermostat housing and maybe elsewhere (thus smoke from hood) -headgasket going based on my sisters observations (she wouldn't let them tear into it - $$) What I have done and observed today: -I put in a new gasket on the thermostat (w/ a new thermostat) and refilled the radiator (it was pretty low), as well as topped off the oil ect. -while driving the car seems the same as when I drove it, however i noticed once while driving around 25 I stomped on it and it didn't go at all (not even a slow acceleration due to lugging) I down shifted and it went fine. -I'm also noticing a sloshing noise coming from what seems to be behind the dash. Thats what I've got so far. The car has a pretty interesting history, at least as long as we've had it. -the summer after i bought it after replaceing the water pump i blew two hoses and the car really liked to run hot (never overheating though, i always had my eye on it), solved this by replacing the radiator. -My sister then drove the car and noticed the 4 didn't work any more, she just kept driving it until the growling from the back got so bad she took it in and found out the drive shaft was screwed- replaced it. -she had the oil changed right before a trip to canada, they forgot to put her oil cap back on and she drove it till the engine got so loud she stopped and popped the hood, oil everywhere and cap sitting nicely on top. They gave her some free oil changes and she was happy (she shoulda made them buy her a new engine) Thats about everything. Thanks for enduring. Any ideas?
  9. Hey, I know there are threads on this topic and i've read most of them, but I was just hoping to get some direct feedback. How easy is it to swap a legacy (i think it's a 92 or 93) engine into a 90 loyale. What modifications need to be made and how long will the swap take (only have a few days to do it, gotta be done before my sister goes back to school). Also anyone who's done this what things did you run into and what should we watch out for during the swap? just hopin for some advice, thanks for any comments. Ben Would it just be easier to sell the loyale (we can get around 500 for it the way it is, the thing is spottless but the head is going) and buy a good legacy chassis to drop the engine into? thanks again
  10. I'll let you stuff that engine into my 81' Celica if i can keep the car at the end... and drive your car while your doing the swap. just for fun.
  11. Thanks. The engine hasn't been overheated yet. The Gasket is "going" meaning there's steam coming from under the hood and out the tailpipe, but it isn't overheating. So I think the headgasket replacement would be my best option. The car is in incredible shape (all the bottom panels have been coated with rust-resistant crap- it looks like truck bed liner- and repainted) time is my only problem, school is pretty busy right now, maybe during thanksgiving. thanks again.
  12. My sister's 90' loyale (my old car) has a blown headgasket (still runs, but spews white smoke periodically). I hate to see the car go and would love to fix it. The interior on this wagon is spotless. Is it worth it? has anyone rebuilt one of these guys? how much did they invest? I searched but the search function on this forum kinda sucks. didn't show any results. Thanks for any advice. I'm fairly car savey, but am still learning alot.
  13. hey, its been awhile. Been busy with school. anyway, my sister's 90 loyale (my old sube) is pulling to one side when she is using 4 wheel drive. she puts it in and it seems ok, but then randomly it will pull to the side. She thought at first that it was just slipping on the ice but then in the dry weather it did the same thing (she put it in to test it). I took it for a drive but didn't notice anything just driving, just that when I put it in and took it out, while moving, it clunked really bad. She hadn't heard that before, but she also only put it in and took it out from a stop. any help would be awesome. thanks. I did do a search and couldn't find anything right off hand.
  14. my old 92 Loyale is about that gutless, used to get passed by semi's on trips, my "new" 84 GL has a bunch more power, might be the fact that the car only has 88K miles as to the 200k on the loyale though. just my experiance, also if I recall when first bought my Loyale I thought I was told to expect it to be gutless:burnout: .
  15. It's a loyale, a loyale is basically a GL.
  16. When I first bought my loyale I thought mine wasn't starting either. Turned out I'm just a moron I wasn't stepping all the way down on the clutch. Hope you smarter than me. Good luck in finding the real problem.
  17. nice to know, I'm doing brakes at the moment, but I don't think I'll need much help with that. Either of you guys (or anyones else for that matter) know where I can get front calipers for fairly cheap (I think mine are gonna be trashed, the brakes make a huge amount of noise whenever I apply them). But I'll keep you in mind, I might need help with a transmission within the next year .
  18. My brakes are going too, I thnk they rub alittle while I'm driving, could this friction be causing the problem ? I'm replacing the brakes as soon as I have the time. I only drive like 10 miles a day, too and from school and work.
  19. I have an 84 GL sedan that is Fwd and has an auto tranny. I have been noticing that sometimes while driving at around 35, when I gently accelerate (about 2k RPM's) usually trying just to hold my speed, there is a noticable shimmy just before it shifts gears. There is no real noise associated with it or anything, just a vibration (mainly in the shifter handle and the wheel). Just wondering if this is a common problem and what I can do about it (besides waiting for the tranny to seize and switching it out for a manual.) Thanks for any advice.
  20. sorry if this is off topic but... I just bought a 84 GL Sedan, has the same light on(goes on and off actually), but it passed emissions with flying colors(bought it yesterday, took it in today). might have something to do with the fact that mine has 88,000 miles on it though. I love your car, wish mine was a manual four-wheel drive (its an AT front wheel) but I can't really complain for $700. hope you figure it out.
  21. -last updateJust came home with it. payed 700 with the snows, it's as gutless as my old loyale but it will do nicely as my winter car (I still got it up to 85 on the freeway) . It's in incredible shape, the interior is like new. it actually looks nicer than I thought it would. I'm gonna use it as a daily driver and park my 81 celica until I have the money to customize/restore/mod it, it has 130,000 original miles on it and a premo interior (not counting the seats).
  22. update- just got off the phone with the owner of this car, IT HAS 88,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT!!!! HE'S ASKING $600 (I think I'll give him 700) , with 1 year old tires, good snow's on rims, and an almost perfect interior!!!! Why didn't this drop in my lap before I bought my Celica??? Oh well, now I will have two car's ( as long as nothing goes wrong and I don't end up buying it). I guess he bought it in 90' with 20,000 miles on it. Still drives it alittle but bought a van to hold all the kids and needs to get rid of a car. I'm still in awe. Sorry I just had to vent off alittle excitement, it's not gonna be pretty or fast, but now I have something to put my ski rack on and hit the slopes this winter! oh, and it's a four door (when I say sedan I know what I mean )
  23. it's not advertised yet, my big sis was visiting one of her old highschool friends in courdalane and they told her about it. She's broke so she's hoping I'll buy it and sell it to her when she gets a job. it is a four door, but I haven't even seen it for myself, supposedly it's in good condition asside from the paint job. i'm still skittish though cause of the transmission, I hate AT's.
  24. I just found out about a 1984 GL Sedan, It has under 100,000 miles on it and the owner is selling it for 600 bucks! I just sold my Loyale to one of my sisters in return for an old Gen 2 Celica ST. I've been dreaming about finding a car I could drive while I fix up and restore the Celi. I feel like I'm going overboard buying two cars in month, is this deal too good to poass up? It's an automatic with electric windows, I know the owner so I'm not too worried about honesty here. how long to these transmissions typically last? The paint on the roof is starting to go but that's easily remedied. Should I jump on this?
