  1. Thanks for all the info! I was just hoping they would spline up together, if I want bigger wheels and tires I'll just drill out a set of hubs for 6 lug.
  2. Does anyone know if the XT-6 5 bolt hubs will match the splines on earlier 4 bolt hubbed cars? Will they slide right on? I know the XT-6 brakes would have to come over too. And is that 5 bolt design the same as the lug pattern on later Legacy's and such? Thanks
  3. I don't know about the part numbers, but I do know how to check a rear end if it is LSD or not. Here's how. Jack up the rear end so both rear tires (or hubs) are clear. Spin one wheel by hand and if the other wheel spins the same direction, it IS an LSD. If the other wheels spins in the opposite direction, then it is NOT an LSD.
  4. Welcome to the board! Can't answer your question on the turbo noise, but I can tell you that the early turbo (older than '90) are not as reliable as the non-turbo models. Blown headgaskets being the most common problem, and sometimes warped heads. Good luck with your new car!
  5. If you can't find the leak, it may just be the design, I have ridden in 2 other gen 1 brats and they both had the same smell
  6. Also had the rear disc brakes. Some exterior trim differences too. And a some of the later 80's models had air suspension systems on them. Although not all had gl-10's had it, or a sunroof.
  7. Yes, thermostat is the problem. When I swapped radiators I put in the 195 degree thermo, it was nice in the summer, but never let my car warm up in the winter. So I switched back to the 180 degree thermo. Warms up perfectly again. Both are available for that model so make sure you get the right one.
  8. Yeah, I have a friend that has those codes, I will get them from him and check it out. I was told by the previous owner that they had it checked out (the code from the computer) and that the malfunctioning part was a part that was unavailable in the US. But I want to know for myself, besides this idle problem is driving me nuts!!! I will check the manifold too. Thanks for all your input guys! I appreciate it. And I will contact you if subieman doesn't have the codes I need.
  9. Well, it seems that Murphy's Law is in full effect. The day that I am going to take my 84 GL into get it smogged, the idle starts doing crazy things. It all began after I was "fiddling" around with the intrument panel to get a smog light (ECS) to no longer light up. After that the car would idle around 500-600 rpm, running real rough. Checked all the vac's and no leaks, moved the idle up on the carb and it worked for awhile, but then dropped back down again. And it is intermittent. Sometimes it idles fine and runs great, about 30% of the time, but the rest! It idles real low, and sounds like its misfiring up to about 1500 rpm before smoothing out and running normal. It will change from running bad to running perfect one minute to the next. I didn't disconnect any wiring while in the instrument panel, not sure how that could have caused the problem. A friend mentioned a pcv valve problem he had with his brat that was similar. Any suggestions? I am baffled.
  10. Checked the vac lines, they are fine. Didn't mess with any of the wiring or grounds with the inst. panel. Tach is fine, it reads just like the engine sounds, very low rpm's. I have no AC.
  11. Well I need some help again. I have an 84 GL, I just took out the instrument panel the other day to take out the ECS lightbulb. Well, as soon as I put it all together again, and started my car, the idle was way low, like 500 rpm. So adjusted the idle speed on the carb, all fixed idled fine, even drove it a short way, still fine. Until I drove it for about 15 minutes later on. As soon as I let it idle again at a stop, the idle had dropped down to 500 or so, running rough. Any ideas what is causing it to keep dropping down?
  12. I took the instrument panel out in my 84 GL today to pull the ECS light bulb, and in so doing, pulled out the speedometer cable. Now the cable isn't long enough for me to hook it back in, and then put the panel back in. It is only long enough to reach if the panel is all the way in, and I can't get back there unless the panel is out! Any suggestions??
  13. Yeah, the smog restrictions are pretty strong here in cali, can't just throw anything on the pipe! Mine works just fine, just looking for something that flows and works better than stock, but will still pass smog.
  14. Hey, I am interested in redoing my exhaust system on my 84 EA81, does anyone know where I can get an aftermarket cat and muffler in the US? thanks
  15. Drive home was good, wheeling sounds great too me! New tires on the way!
