  1. Did you sell? Did I see you on cl? I'm interested.....I got.....cash.

  2. Thanks for the info...sounds like I can check that stuff. Thats with me holding the brake pedal down with my foot while in drive.
  3. Ok I'll check the fuses. Would they be burnt looking if they were bad? Also...what is the choke? I drove it around this evening and no problems. It idles really smooth most of the time, but if I'm sitting in Drive with the brake on for awhile it likes to drop down to around 500rpm and feel less stable. I had it posted at $1200, considering its excellent condition (well besides this now), but I think I'll put it up cheaper and say there may be a possible problem. Going out of town tomorrow, but I'll check the fuses on Tuesday:) Thanks General:banana:
  4. Well I went out to start it just now and it started up!!! (IT STALLED ON ME YESTERDAY EVENING) The fuel filter is new, but I noticed yesterday there was no fuel in the filter and now today when starting the little reservoir is full of fuel with the filter. Normal? I also adjusted the idle a little higher since it was pretty low via that little screw under the carb somebody told me about. Is that ok? I noticed when I put the gear into drive the RPM's drop significantly from about 1200 down to 600 or so and jump just a little bit if left in drive with the brake on. Any solution? I'm too nervous to take it for a spin and then have to tow it back again with the rope. My neighborhood is kinda flat, but hilly. When you talk about the spark you mean the distributor or plugs? If its the plugs where are those? Sorry for my lack of mechanics but I do appreciate the help:)
  5. Definitly mechanically sound before this I'm guessing the air filter is the one in the carborator? If so that is nice and clean since I replaced it not that long ago. Like I said I don't have much experience with these older engine or mechanics. Air = Check OK I'll try and check the other 2 today. I'm a little confused about checking the spark, but otherwise the gas seems easy. CAN YOU GIVE ME A LITTLE MORE DETAIL ON THE SPARK? By pouring it in you mean in the middle of the carb where that hole is? Just seems so wierd it started up and then stopped. Wierd.
  6. So I just put up my '84 subaru GL for sale that has ran great since I've had it. I hadn't driven it in about a week and went out yesterday to take her for a drive. Started up pretty well and then a few blocks from my house it died while I was braking to come to a stop sign. I tried starting it over and over and it wouldn't quite make it. It turns over and the electrics work but it just won't quite catch the start up point. I ended up coasting into a church parking lot and then towing it with my other subaru back to the house with some tow rope. Its the carborated 3spd Auto. Ran just fine before and even started up after a week of no driving and then stalled while coasting. Anyone know the problem? I just put it up for sale in here and now this happens:confused: I needed the money too. I don't know much about mechanics. HELP!!!
  7. ^^^^Thats what I was looking for. Thanks! I obviously know about pouring it into the gas/oil but mainly looking for vacuum line etc.
  8. So I've used Seafoam on my subaru WRX before and also other cars with good results. I'm not very mechanically inclined and this is my first carb'd car. Can anybody explain the best places to add seafoam to a '84 Subaru GL? If you have a link with pics that would be great, because most likely I won't know where part/hose X is. Thanks
  9. Brat = jeep and subaru huh? LOL. Sounds like it works:) Ya I'm not totally decided on selling. But honestly I don't need 2 cars. Actually 3 right now until my 96 impreza sells for sure tomorrow.
  10. Ya...I would personally prefer a 5spd too. That "3rd light" sounds cool. Very interesting to say the least. Well its sad to say, but I might already be selling the GL...Possibly but not sure. I mainly bought it from the family friend because of its great condition and to have something to drive after I sold my impreza (selling Monday). Although I found my ideal car for now and bought it yesterday. Its a '97 impreza outback. I've been searching for a good one in my price range and actually got one! I'm not sure I want to sell the blue wagon...but if anyone is interested post up in here or shoot me a pm. The limit is 5 pm's which seems low....is there any way to up that? If I surely decide to sell I'll post up an classified. Still struggling through college and hours are extremely low at the grocery store I work at
  11. lol. Well I took it for a spin at 12am and thats what I was wearing:banana: I got it tabbed yesterday until next year. No emissions and it will be a classic car in 4 1/2 years woot woot!!!
  12. It must be the 3 speed Auto. I drove an 88 GL with manual the other day and it was much better.
  13. Thanks guys for the nice comments. LOL The nasioc boards are a little more harsh, they would all just laugh at this beauty. RUST AND CARB Yep not really any rust, which is amazing since I hear a lot about that. I honestly am not too mechanically inclined...I just love subaru's so I don't know about the carb. The carb is a light blue color and it does have a receipt in the glovebox for being rebuilt a few years back. Everything seems to be running decent. BUMPERS AND GRILL Well I already had a carfax going so I ran it...it is definitly an 84 GL so maybe they replaced the bumpers? It was an older man who had it, and he had a few subaru's on his old lot. TIMING BELT? So there is no timing belt on these? Remember I can change oil and thats about it. RADIO IDEAS Yes Please! I would like to have at least a cheap radio. Would the stock radio out of my 96 impreza fit? Cause I bought a CD player for that one. I don't have tons of money to spend so gotta keep it cheap. I wouldn't even know where to start with the dents. QUESTION? I found this 1993 Loyale 1.8L fuel injected engine with only 125k miles. Could that go in my car?
  14. I'm mainly over on nasioc so this is my first real post. I've been a subaru fanatic for a few years now. I recently bought a 96 impreza after selling my '05 WRX since I'm a struggling almost finished college student:banana: Today I picked up an '84 Subaru GL Wagon. I love blue so I couldn't pass it up. Only has 156k miles although its a Front Wheel drive, Auto trans. I'm going to make another thread about an AWD conversion along with possibly 4/5 spd manual and bigger engine swap. Feel free to drop any insight in here if you please. Car is in good condition for the age. Its got no balls whatsoever, and besides missing the spare tire in the front (WTB if you have one) and no radio, along with a crack in the window its nice. I already cleaned it up a bit since it was sitting at the guys house getting mold on the paint. Onto the PICS:
