  1. I have an old one that creates the "jumping tach" that is still good. I'll try it tomorrow to see if it will at least spark. Thanks, anybody else have other suggestions?
  2. So, I swapped EA81 engines a week ago in my '84 GL 4WD. Got everything running and then the new engine overheated. No damage to the headgasket or block, just possibly the radiator. I put a new radiator, water pump, and thermostat in to cover all the cooling system. I drove it around town, and set the timing. Everything was working fine no overheating (the fan kicked in when the temp started to increase. Then later that day it would not start. So, I had the battery checked it was fine, but I bought a charger and charged all the way up just be sure. I had the starter checked, and it was also fine. I then checked the timing again setting it to TD0 and moving the distributor shaft to line up the arrow with the dot on the gear. Still nothing. Removed two spark plugs to check for fouling. Nothing wrong, but tried to see if there was any spark. There was no spark. So, I tested the ignition coil and it was receiving 11.3 volts. I tested a brand new coil and it gave the same reading. So, i tried to see if the ignition coil wire would give me a spark. It would not. Do I need more than 12 volts? I assumed that 11.3 volts was close enough. This could be my problem. I am wondering what else can or need to check? I've racked my brain and nothing comes to mind. The only other thing that crosses my mind is some sort of switch or relay that I am have not checked, but I do not know where any would be to check. Thanks for your help, Sam

  4. The oil leaking is near the rear, I believe. It does not leak when it's not running. The exhaust smoke color is unknown color (color blind); I'll try to figure that out. The car has lost compression, accelerates very slowly. I think it is in the piston rings and possibly the seals. I have put a heavier weight of oil in it, and it has used less oil. The numbers from the original post is correct. I was traveling on the highway at 75 mph. It was sucking oil through because of no back pressure and probably the continuous high pressure exterted on 25 year old seals and rings. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Sam
  5. '84 GL Wagon EA81 So, I decided to replace the muffler with an aftermarket freeflow muffler. But, it took me about a month, and during that time I drove it with no muffler. That is when it started to use lots of oil, quart every 100-200 miles. Got the new muffler put on and it smokes and the exhaust tip is all black and sooty. I am wondering where the oil is leaking from. I have looked underneath while changing the oil and have seen nothing obvious. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Sam
  6. I have a hole in my A/C hose that connects the compressor to the condensor. Is there any way to repair is easily? Or should I get a junkyard hose? Can I pick one up from an auto parts store? Or go to a A/C shop to see if they can repair or custom-make a hose? Does anyone know the part number for this hose? Thanks, Sam
  7. Yes, the "sticky" is outdated with dead links all over the place. It is really only half helpful at best. Well, looks like I'll have to leave this idea to rest for awhile. Monstaru thank you for a reply that was helpful.
  8. Okay, I am not looking for something too expensive - under $200. I am also not looking for a huge lift. This will still be a daily driver. Is there an easy way to upgrade the struts to gain some lift of 2-4 inches? Or is it a better idea to save up for a lift kit from SJR or the like? Thanks, Sam
