Re gearing 88 gl 5spd trans and rear Diff.
Thanks for the input... I think I will just go with the Delta Cams / lift for now. Maybe I'll sell the JDM to pay for everything!

Re gearing 88 gl 5spd trans and rear Diff.
El Presidente, are you running a 1.8 or a 2.2? I was thinking about 29" but may go for a true 27" tires. Got a small dirt bike / single Snowmobile trailer I as like to tow locally. Thought the extra final drive would help out. Trying to do a 2" lift before the snow flies here. Currently running a 1.8 but did get my hands on a 2.5 JMD motor only. Looking around at JY's for harness, ecu, ect. Was thinking about some Delta Torx Cams until I can get everything together for the EJ conversion.

Re gearing 88 gl 5spd trans and rear Diff.
What are the lowest gears you can put in a 5spd DR trans and diff. Was looking at Justy final gearing was 4.43 and 5.20 with 4wd. Could this be an option for running larger tires on lifted GL's. Which Subaru gears work in a DR trans. 4.40 or 5.20 would make an awesome little rock crawler out of a lifted GL. Comments?? Got info from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Subaru_transmissions

88 gl power problems
Follow up........It turned out to be a loose distributor shaft. Got a replacement for 65.00. Replaced it runs like a champ. Once I had the other distributor out I was able to tighten the Shaft down by the screw under the rotor. Guess I should have looked there first. Cheap fix and Have a back up for other projects. Thanks guys for all the help.

88 gl power problems
Power loss was after changing the Plug, Cap, Rotor and Fuel Filter. Ran great when parked, Idled fine but just didn't have any power when driving. Put new gas in and it seemed to run better. That was when I started getting power around 4000rpm. The next day when trying to start it it's like running on like 2 cylinder. Only runs for a short while then dies. Will check some of the suggestions. Thanks for the Help!!

88 gl power problems
My subaru is lacking power. changed the plugs, rotor, cap, fuel filter. Started and ran fine but lacked power until about 4000 rpm. parked it. the next day it starts but barely runs. It's a TBI model. Fuel pump? Didn't change the plug wires, should I do that? Seemed to run better at half throttle than full throttle. don't have a lot money to start replacing everything. Any suggestions? Thanks

Finaly Lifted!
Great Subie. Got an 88 same color. Thinking next month doing the lift and wheels. Do you think you still needed to trim the wheel wells if you would have done the lift first?
