my wife and i share the truck. when she drives she fills it up around an 1/8th of a tank left, when i drive it i push it as far as i can go, once the low fuel light comes on i usually push it another 30 miles before fueling up. maintenance on the vehicle was plugs, wires, fuel filter, and engine, diff, and tranny fluids changed out around 82K miles and it now has around 110K on it. good call on checking for codes, even though the light isn't on, i'll do that, and check out the evap and knock sensors. i haven't tried to loosen the fuel cap to see if it has any effect. i'll try these out and keep you posted. THX Guys.

hey bulwnkl have you ever had any issues with amsoil? just wondering, i've been using it for about a year and a half and haven't had any issues. I was actually turned onto it from a mechanic my brother takes his soob to, they race the 2 stroke sprint cars, and say they have to rebuild engines every 8 races, but with amsoil they go 12 races before a rebuild, and i figure i am not racing, being a daily driver the oil wouldn't be put under the same type of conditions they describe. just don't wanna get myself into something that could've been avoided, but as stated earlier my personal results with it have sold me on it. let me know

tahoe subaru said it right. the manual tranny's have the the front and "center" diffs built into the tranny housing, all three components are lubricated with differential oil (gear oil) most commonly found is 80-90w, some places will have 90-145w i think. I ran that in my GL and it worked fine, the shifter moved through the gears a little slow in the winter, but once the tranny warmed up the oil thinned out. I've run both types and haven't had any issues. i would recommend, and use amsoil differential oil for the tranny.

does it mis all the time, or only under certain conditions? i.e. when the throttle is opened half way or more, or under certain load conditions like goin up a hill, or does it just misfire all the time? just asking because i had a similar problem on an 88 gl, it would mis under load, and intermittently, replacing the distributor fixed the issue and i didn't realize it till later that the cam angle sensor is built in to the disty. i would check the Haynes manual for the parameters on the cam sensor and start there. keep us posted on it

does it shift hard all the time or only when your hammering on it? what if you try to downshift it manually so you can kick it down without having to hammer on it i mean even under normal driving to get it to kick down from 3rd to 2nd you have to really gas it, maybe you can ease it into 2nd, accelerate, and then hit 3rd?

on my 2003 Baja it seems to have an intermittent misfire only comes around after a fill up. under normal acceleration only in 2nd or 3rd, once you hit 4th no more misfire. and not every time you hit 2nd or 3rd either. seems like the misfire is related to throttle position and load on the engine. i had an 88 GL sedan and it used to do something similar and after replacing everything that it didn't need, i found it it was the cam angle sensor, and if your familiar with the EA82's then you know the Cam Angle Sensor is inside the disty (prolly why i never thought to look for that as a fault). the baja seems to be having a similar issue and it goes away on it's own after say a day and stays gone till the next fill up. i thought maybe water in fuel, or some contaminated fuel but it does it every time i fill up regardless of the gas station i go to. if anyone can help me out, at least point in the general direction maybe to test a few sensors, before i replace good parts. ha ha. the check engine light is not on. it actually came on a week or two after buying it, but went off a few minutes later and hasn't been on since. the cam sensors are easy to get to, if anyone knows a resistance or voltage so i know if it good, i guess that would be the place to start. THX in advance guys.

AMSOIL. best oil i have ever used. I have an 03 baja and it had 80K on it when i bought it. i drained the engine, tranny, and diff, and swapped all fluids over to AMSOIL. the truck now has just under 110K on and i get better fuel economy with amsoil than the EPA estimates, even with a few small mods on the enigne. the first thing i noticed was how much easier it "felt" to shift, it's a 5spd. from the reveiws i've seen on the economy is: 320 city, and 400 highway. my actual results are around 300 city and 440 highway. small engine mods are chopped air box out, and 2.5 in exhaust w/cherry bomb you can get information off the amsoil website, the recommended oil change intervals are 100K for tranny and diffs, and for the engine, 15K if it's all city driving, and 25K if it's all highway driving. I changed my engine oil a bit late at 23K and without exaggeration, it was still carmel colored, and didn't smell burnt at all. I will never go back, and i actually run amsoil in everything i own, I.E. lawnmower, 4 wheeler, diesel air compressor, etc. etc.

i gave my cousin a 90 legacy, it was originally a 2wd auto, and needed some engine work. i had a 93 impreza, which i had swapped an ej22 into, (originally an ej18) i swapped the ej22 into the legacy, and mated it to the impreza's 5 spd and made a conversion out of it. he is having trouble getting axles for it. we alreay know about the difference in the ID of the DOJ between auto's and manuals, but my issue is this, he ordered an axle for a 2wd impreza and is using it in the legay butif he slides the DOJ in enough to get the roll pin in it then he can't get the axle nut started. it seems the axle is too short. is there a size difference (lengthwise) between the legacy and the impreza? the legacy has stock suspension on it, and it's a 90, whereas the tranny in the legacy came out of a 2wd 5sp impreza and it was a 93. thanks guys
