  1. GD As I have pointed out in another post since this deal is draging out due to all the uncertainty and BS you seem to inject into these threads, the NZ exchange rate has improved against the US dollar and increased the price of the gearboxes. One of my faults is I am outspoken and often say what I am thinking and usually not in a diplomatic way...... I think of it as a plus because then people KNOW where I stand. My reply to you is in bold in the I would rather you didn't buy one, I have had a few PM's from other users of this forum about you. I have confirmed who I am and have given references.....if you think I am a scammer then you shouldn't even consider buying a gearbox. As for wanting the money NOW what a croc if you even bothered to read the timeline you would see that Scooby would be holding the money until I showed photos of the gearboxes ready to ship. I don't see YOU offering to fund this deal out of YOUR pocket by paying for the gearboxes BEFORE recieving any money, with the possibility of ending up owning a quantity of Subaru gearboxes if some buyers turn around and say "NO" I can't afford it now. I am sceptical that you would even buy one, let alone put down money to buy one. And personally I would rather you didn't ever get to own one beacuse of work others and I carried out. GD all gearboxes will be sold and paid for BEFORE they are shipped and I would say that anyone selling one for profit would want US$700 or even US$800 as if they bought more than one they are in it for the profit. Personally I would rather buy any gearboxes back than see you end up with one I arranged to send to the US. Yes this has gotten personal I do not appreciate being called a scammer, which you have done.........so unless you have something constructive to say please go and annoy someone else.......Ian PS at least I am open enough to post my real name and not hide my identity. Ian
  2. Superu, I've been to Moab, back in 2005 when my wife and I did a trip around Ca, Utah and Arizona before flying over to Detroit. I did over 6000 miles in 5 weeks. I really enjoyed the NP's in Utah and would like to come back.....especially to Zion. Anyway the Legacy Hi/Lo boxes that I have opened up have had 3.7 final drive and 1.47 lo ratio with the same gear ratios as the EA RX gearbox that I opened up. When I got the quote for the shipping I found that 1 cubic meter or 1000kg was the minumum charge for freight so I figured I could get 6 gearboxes into a box that size, maybe 7. I can get 9 or 10 of the Legacy EJ gearboxes with Hi/Lo and some of those would have locking centre diff. I reckon that I can fit 9 maybe 10 into a 1.5 cubic meter box. So I worked out the cost of shipping 10 gearboxes in the 1.5 cubic meter box to Scooby in Seattle. When the cost of freight etc and purchase of the gearboxes was worked out the NZ exchange rate was around the US$0.66 per NZ$1.00 and the cost worked out at around the US$350 per gearbox landed in Scooby's yard in Seattle. Since then the NZ dollar has climbed against the US dollar and is now around US$0.72 per NZ$1.00, so this has added US$18 to the purchase price of each gearbox and since the quote for the freight is only valid till the 28th the cost of freight will increase as well. To make this work I needed enough buyers for 6 gearboxes......but so far Subrutex and ShawnW are the only ones who have put up their hand and said YES i will buy one. GeneralDisorder said If he was going to buy one he would much rather pay $700 for a single unit - shipped by someone that at least has verified what's in it and that it doesn't look like a hand-grenade went off inside it. So I offered to do this for him but have had no reply. Have had a few PM's regarding some of the posts and people posting which explained a few things and is the only reason I haven't just pulled the plug on the whole thing. That is about it, the price per gearbox was US$350 but is now US$368 and will increase after the 28th depending on the NZ exchange rate against the US dollar. One thing about the exchange rate it makes it cheaper for me to buy things from the US:banana: And I still need a few things for my other project......Ian
  3. If you knew the NZ market at all you would know that even with the Jap imports that have been imported into NZ the Legacy was still a Legacy in Japan. As far as I know Japan never put EA motors in Legacy's either. And I have plainly stated these gearboxes are still in vehicles. You question my knowledge yet dislike it when someone does the same to you.
  4. Well I need to do an update, the NZ dollar has been climbing against the US dollar and is now hovering around the US$0.72 per NZ$1.00. When the price for the gearboxes, freight and the all charges etc were worked out it was at US$0.66 per NZ$1.00 Now what this means is since the quote for freight etc is valid for 14 days which runs out on Monday the 28th, after the 28th the price of freight etc will increase. But at this point the only thing that has increased is the purchase price of the gearbox, at US$0.66 the price was US$198 and at US$0.72 the price is US$216. So effectivly the exchange rate has added US$18.00 to the purchase price of each gearbox. The exchange rate is totally out of my control, but I would need to recoup the extra costs as there is no profit for it to come out of and then after the 28th if the exchange rate stays where it is the freight costs etc will increase. This is just pushing the price of these gearboxes up. At the end of the day it is the purchasers choice if they buy a gearbox but it is up to me to make the buyer aware of all things that will affect the price. One other thing I learned today is that the person at the wrecking yard I am buying the gearboxes through is only there for another week before he ceases to work for the company, so I am going to have to ask the new manager when he starts if I can still purchase the gearboxes at the same price. Subartex, I can get grey interior trim for you.....Ian
  5. Phizinza.......from your previous post it was you saying that I don't know the difference between a EJ and EA gearbox.
  6. monstaru, I have no problem waiting six month or even a year but one thing that changes is the exchange rate and possibly the cost of shipping so at the moment the gearboxes are US$350 six months time they could be $325 or they could be $375 with the way our peso fluctuates and the costs of shipping it is your choice.........at the end of the day I don't HAVE to arrange or sell anything. As I have been at pains to point out I'm not making a profit all I need to do is cover expenses.........so if no one buys any then I end up with time to do other things. One other thing to take into account is that in six months time there may be no gearboxes available at that price, as I ponted out the cheapest alternative source I found was NZ$650 and at the moment I have a hold on the 9 or 10 gearboxes the wrecker has, so if the required number of gearboxes aren't sold by the 30th Sept then they can return to selling them for NZ$500 ea. You have a great day because I'm going too.......cheers
  7. Subarutex, I'm going out to the wrecker latter this week what colour interior bits and which bits do you want? If you let me know I will see what they have in good condition.....Cheers Ian
  8. AP, The L series was never badged as a Legacy in New Zealand. These are EJ Legacy gearboxes, I do know the diffeence between an EJ and a EA, just as well as I know the difference between a Legacy and an L series. I have never seen a EA engine and gearbox fitted to a Legacy from the factory. Here in NZ the Legacy 89-92 came out with an EJ 1.8 SOHC. EJ 2.0 SOHC and EJ 2.2 SOHC engines and these had one of the following manual gearbox, 5 speed 2WD, 5 speed FT4WD, 5 speed with Hi/Lo, 5 speed with locking centre diff, or 5 speed Hi/Lo and locking centre diff. All these gearboxes are still bolted into Legacy's so it's very easy to tell what they come out of. Ian
  9. I can guarantee these are Subaru EJ Legacy gearboxes and thay all come out of NZ new Legacy's, mostly 1.8's. The name differences come from imported vehicle, Liberty's from Aussie and I've even seen them called Isuzu, this was a Japanese Import along with a lot of Legacy's in NZ. The two EJ gearboxes I have opened up one out of a 90 Legacy and the other out of a 95 Legacy both had 1.44 and 3.7 ratios. As yet I haven't seen a 1.19 lo ratio and looking in the NZ workshop manual it doesn't list that ratio either. To tell the truth I couldn't care less if anyone wants to buy one, I offered to help those that wanted a Legacy EJ Hi/Lo gearbox with centre diff lock and everyone disbelieves me and virtually calls me a liar because they haven't seen one in person. I think I said in one of my posts I actually worked as a mechanic at the local Subaru dealership back in the 90's and have been rebuilding auto transmissions and manual gearboxes for the last 10 years + so I do know what I am talking about. Perhaps you have trouble telling an EA and EJ gearbox apart but I don't, and believe it or not I can tell the difference between a Legacy and an L series. It looks like I will just pull the plug on this transaction as I have better things to do with my time than trying to answer a whole lot of questions and carry out a heap of work for NOTHING. It is not worth my time to ship one gearbox as the minimum freight cost is the same for one gearbox or the number I can get in a 1m3 box, so I have never worried about trying to ship just one gearbox to Aussie......Ian
  10. It seems that people can't read.......these gearboxes came out of New Zealand NEW Subaru Legacy's motly ones with 1800 SOHC engines. I have posted before that these will be coming out of a Subaru Legacy from behind an EJ engine. Since you are prepared to pay $700 I am prepard to open up one of the EJ Hi/Lo gearboxes with centrelock diff, but if you want me to do that you OWN it provided it's in good condition internally after all the wrecking yard won't let me take the gearbox away open it up and if it's not the right ratio return it, and as I have stated I'm not prepared to do all that work unless I'm making a PROFIT . So please put your name forward and send your money to Scooby, for a guaranteed good condition gearbox.........Ian
  11. At this point I want definate buyers, if there aren't enough buyers then the transaction is canselled. I have done all I'm prepared to do until enough buyers come forward. For me it would be easier to deal with just one buyer than 10, so if Scooby wishes to purchase all 10 gearboxes I am fine with that, then he can market them at any price he sees fit as he would have outlayed the money to swing the deal. I have not purchased the gearboxes yet and all are still in cars so the way I will work it is At least definate buyers for six gearboxes by September the 30th. If you want me to purchase the gearboxes then at least the cost of the gearbox has to be with Scooby before I purchase them Once this happens I will purchase the number of gearboxes ordered and give the dismantlers time to remove them. Final payment to Scooby before the gearboxes are ready to ship. Photos to Scooby who will transfer the money to my friend in Indiana who will then transfer it to me, once the funds are in my account I will pay the freight company and get the gearboxes shipped. If this is unsuitable to some then please don't order, if the required number of buyers aren't forthcoming by 30th Sept then the deal is cancelled. Once again I am not making money on this and all I need to do is cover my costs, so my part of the work will be done in available time. I don't need to do this and the only reason I am is to help those who want a Legacy Hi/Lo ratio gearbox. Those that want one please post in this thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=103665...........Ian
  12. Without opening every gearbox up this is what I know.... I have looked inside the EJ D/R gearbox and the two I have opened up have had the same internals as the RX gearbox that I opened up. 1.46 lo ratio 3.7 final and the same tooth count as the RX in all gears. As for the EJ Hi/Lo with center diff lock I haven't opened one up yet so can't say what it would be. Now unless someone want s to ship parts over to NZ to see if they can be fitted into one of these gearboxes I cannot answer those questions. One thing that this would achieve is to supply a EJ Hi/Lo ratio gearbox to people who don't want to or haven't got the ability to fit alternative parts into a EA or Legacy gearbox.........this is a bolt in fit for a Legacy, or behind a EJ engine no adapter plates, no changing axles driveshafts or cross members....Cheers Ian
  13. grossgary, Are you interested in one?? I haven't seen you post before saying so and have answered this same question in the other thread. At this point in time it seems there are more questions than people interested in purchasing a transmission......Ian
  14. At this point I want definate buyers, if there aren't enough buyers then the transaction is cancelled. Also I have not purchased the gearboxes yet and all are still in cars so the way I will work it is At least definate buyers for 6 gearboxes are required by September the 30th. If you want me to purchase the gearboxes then at least the cost of the gearbox has to be with Scooby before I purchase them Once this happens I will purchase the number of gearboxes ordered and give the dismantlers time to remove them. Final payment to Scooby before the gearboxes are ready to ship. I don't need to do this and the only reason I am is to help those who want a Legacy Hi/Lo ratio gearbox...........Ian
  15. This is where it is at at the moment for this to proceed. The cost per gearbox landed in Seattle will be approx US$350, this final price will be dependant on how many are required. I figure I can fit 6 gearboxes in 1m3 which would end up at the above figure and possibly 10 into 1.5m3 which would still end up at the above figure. Untill I purchase the gearboxes and build the box to put them in I will not be 100% sure how many will fit, but if the final cost is more than US$350 per gearbox then I would come back to the group. One problem I have is I am not going to know the exact final shipping costs until I have purchased the gearboxes and tried to fit them in the box. So taking all this into account who wants one of these gearboxes and is prepared to send the US$350 to Scooby? I want "Yes I will" buyers not I may want one. I need at least 6 gerboxes sold before this deal can proceed..........Ian
  16. I would need the money prior to shipping otherwise I am going to have to bankroll the full amount prior to recieving any funds, which would mean I would have to add a profit factor to the price due to the time factor of me paying for everything and then getting the money back. Since I haven't got an International account with the freight company I have to pay the freight cost prior to pickup. Cheers Ian
  17. Thanks Callum, I had thought of talking to them at Brown & Cope (I think they still go under that name) to see if they could rework the swaybar for me. Only have to make up the air intake pipe now, the air filter box is mounted where the jack used to be, Please stop in when you are in town next....Cheers Ian
  18. GD............you have lost me what is it you want to know????? I was under the impression that the Legacy EJ Hi/Lo ratio gearbox wasn't available in the US, yet your post indicates it was available, if that is the case there is no need for me to do the work to export Legacy duel range gearboxes to the US. I haven't heard of the USDM front diff's and can't answer that question. If people want me to jump through hoops and answer all the questions about what will fit what can be changed what ratios etc etc etc before buying then I guess this deal will fall through as all I am prepared to do is purchase the transmissions, build a box, put them in it address them and send them. Nothing would be shipped untill after I have recieved the funds from everyone. It makes no difference to me if I do all the work or not, after all I'm not doing it for profit. So I guess what I am saying is for this to work I need whoever wants a gearbox to say they want one and front up with the money. Since Scooby is prepared to act as the reciever perhaps he is prepared to recieve the money and when hes got it all transfer the money to me here in NZ or the alternative is to send the money to my friend in Indiana who already has my bank details and will transfer the money to me. One other thing is when I have buyers for ten gearboxes, that is it, I don't need the money transferred to me until the gearboxes are packaged and ready to ship. Ian
  19. What interior bits do you need? I can get at least one gear lever and Hi/Lo ratio lever setup. For the total amount of money we are talking about for the whole transaction Paypal is possibly an expensive way of transferring the money to me. When I transfer money to the US anything over 1k I do by bank transfer as the Paypal fees are quite a bit more. It usually costs me approx NZ$110 in bank charges, it accumulates three charges on the way to it's destination bank in the US. But when you do multiple payments totalling US$3500 I would assume the Papal fees would be more than NZ$100, perhaps someone with a Paypal account can work it out. So possibly the easiest way is for someone in the US to recieve all the money then to transfer it to my account in NZ........Ian
  20. Well unless someone can tell me the ratios from the number on the trans then the only way I can verify the ratios is by opening each one up, and that's too much work for no pay. Both the Legacy Hi/Lo gearboxes I have opened up have had 3.7 diff ratios and 1.46 to 1 low ratio, which was the same as the RX gearbox I got the locking centre diff from. But I can't guarantee that all gearboxes would have the same diff ratio or the same lo ratio as the ones I opened up. Just to make it clear NOT all of the 10 gearboxes have centre diff lock, but they ALL have Hi/Lo ratio. They are all Legacy gearboxes from behind a EJ engine. Ian
  21. These are the names that have indicated they are interested Kaki Subarutex s'ko monstaru cubastreet.............I can supply a EA82 5 speed with Hi/Lo and center diff lock, if this is what you really want Redcap The Scooby Steve W Bratsrus1 mthoodsub Others that have posted but haven't said are GeneralDisorder Turbone beheinen74 baccaruda That makes 10 interested and another 4 that posted and may be interested. So how do I allocate the gearboxes??????.......Ian
  22. Right the quote is in my hands, it is more expensive than I thought and breaks down as follows This is for 1m3 or 1000kg, I will address this further down. This is for shipping to Seattle, so the ship stops in LA and then it goes by seafreight up the coast to Seattle........there is no direct NZ to Seattle shipping Cartage to Christchurch NZ$80-00 Export Documentation NZ$75.00 Export Entry NZ$15.00 AMS Filing Fee NZ$37.55 Seafreight NZ$383.00 BAF NZ$33.04 sub Total NZ$623.59 Destination charges Terminal Handling NZ$75.10 Pier Pass NZ$6.01 Chassis NZ$5.00 CFS Recovery Fee NZ$225.29 Forklift Fees NZ$52.57 Fuel Surchage NZ$3.00 Customs Clearance NZ$187.74 Bond Fee NZ$90.12 Importer Security Filing NZ$75.10 Delivery to Seattle 98166 NZ$225.29 sub Total NZ$722.44 Total NZ$1346.03 This is quite a bit more expensive than the previous quote The previous quote was for shipping to LA and was as follows Cartage to Christchurch NZ$80-00 Export Documentation NZ$75.00 Export Entry NZ$15.00 AMS Filing Fee NZ$37.55 Seafreight NZ$187.74 BAF NZ$33.04 sub Total NZ$428.34 And the destination charges were approximately US$400 (These charges were corrected today and should have been approx US$450.00) I am a bit stunned to learn it is cheaper to ship the 1000's of miles from NZ to LA than it is to ship from LA to Seattle. One thing I keep forgetting to clarify is if the quote includes GST or if it is GST exempt, GST in NZ is 12.5% Now I have been doing some measuring and a Legacy gearbox at the bell housing is approx 400mm by 400mm by 800mm long so I figure that in 1m3 I could fit about 6 gearboxes......maybe 7, and I think I may be able to get 10 into 1.5m3, if I can't get 10 in I would be able to get at least 8, so the cost per gearbox would have to be recalculated. So if I was able to get 10 gearboxes into 1.5m3 the freight costs to Seattle would be NZ$2019.05, that would make each gearbox NZ$502.00 (approx US$332) each. The only cost to add to this would be any costs I incurr for the box to ship them and the cost to transfer the money to me in NZ which wouldn't be very much, but may add another US$10 - US$20 per gearbox, Considering the cost to purchase anymore gearboxes this is a real bargain as if I had to buy the gearboxes elsewhere the cost would be NZ$650 per gearbox plus the same shipping costs, which would translate to US$563 per gearbox. Let me know what you think.......Ian
  23. I looked on the local auction site and found this Hi/Lo ratio Legacy box with both gear levers. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/Gear-boxes/auction-241352351.htm
  24. Can anyone give me an idea how to allocate these gearboxes to buyers as there seems to be quite a bit of interest and one person indicated he would like 10-12 of these, so there will be more people wanting them than I can supply at this price. Please post your ideas here.........Ian
