Ive got a 97 Legacy Outback that i bought in october '03 in late december '03 got a check engine light, as i drove it to the dealer the light went off, to be safe had it looked at anyway, they didnt find anything wrong. A few days later i went to get my emissions tested, i was there idling for about 30 minutes and as i drove up to the bay i had to stop once again, i put the car in park and when they waved me in, put it back into drive and the tachometer flipped out and the dash lit up like a christmas tree then the car stalled (all within about 5 seconds). Had the car jumped and drove it home without a problem, ran for 3 days without incident. After a big snow took the car out drove it about 10 miles and the CEL came back on so i drove it home, parked and turned the ignition off, came back 2-3 minutes later and the car wouldnt start, couldnt even jump it, had it towed and dealer said new battery and alternator, so i did that and the car ran well, drove it about 170 miles where it sat for about 2 weeks, drove it another 170 miles without a problem after 3 days of city driving the CEL came back on and now the dealer said it was a misfire in #4 cyl. code was cleared because the dealer couldnt reproduce it, a week later the CEL was back on, the car drove 170 miles without a problem and started up nicely for two days after that. car sat for about a week and now it wont start... any ideas?? i have none
