  1. Hi board, I broke something while installing a weber. This thing is located under the alternator and while I was turning a bolt to take off some of the emission stuff, it snap off. I do not know what this is and hope it is not too important. I was wondering if this is replacable or the rest of the not broken part underneath the alternator can be block off without any consequences. Here are the pictures.

  2. so is this a parts car for the brat with the holey bed or is it another "keeper?"

Well, Carfreak and I were little bit tempted to restore the Brat since it had straighter body panel than mine and almost no rust. But after seeing under the hood, we dropped that temptation. We was just burned so bad… it was well beyond our skill for restoration. But we’ll see, Bellevue Subaru Crew  will have a meeting about this whether to try to restore it or put parts into my Brat.

Sorry you're having such a rough go of it. Would have been kind of funny to see a Mercedes towing a brat. lol

How does the hatch look? I'd be interested in taking it off your hands, it would save you the trouble of hauling it all the way home.

Hatch looks great. Sorry for the interest but hatch goes in to the hands of Carfreak85.

    Thanks

  3. Carfreak85 and I were in desperate situation to get down to Oregon and move the Brat out of his neighborhood soon as we could. The owner of the Brat and the hatch wanted the Brat to be gone by yesterday because he was receiving complains. We had an access to lifted Toyota Tacoma, but it didn’t work out. We wasted about 5 hours trying to locate car dolly in Washington, and we ended up heading down toward Oregon with Carfreak’s Mercedes. With Mercedes strap towing the Brat, we managed to pull out of his street. It was obvious to us that it is impossible to strap tow the Brat from North of Portland back to Bellevue so we decided that we ask any stores which have large parking lots such as Wal-Mart if we can park the Bat for couple of day or until this weekend (thanks to one of board member who suggested this idea), but we were harshly rejected. If we asked around more we were sure we could have find a place but it was getting dark and we needed to head home. We started looking for any board member around North of Portland who would let us park the Brat for several days, and we found one (Thanks to GD). After we parked the Brat at the place, we started to head home. Nothing worked out as we hoped and planned to do, yet we still got the Brat out of his street, and came home safely, though the Brat and the hatch are still in Oregon. I think Carfreak85 and I are going back down to Oregon next weekend with Grand Cherokee and a car dolly. If there is anyone who would like to help us moving the either of Brat or Hatch to save us from making two trips from Bellevue to Oregon, we will be very very grateful. Of course gas and meals are provided

Thank you so much for the advice and the help.

  4. With such tight budget, Carfreak85 and I couldn't come up with better ideas than to use my brat to tow another. I know we have enough money to pay for the cars(in Oregon) and pay for a dolly but I'm not sure if I could rent a truck too. That is additional $200 to the total spending. Since we have to make 2 trips down to Oregon and back to Washington, that is $400 total. Carfreak is getting paid this weekend, but the owner of the cars wants the car gone before this weekend. Hopefully some of my friends will have truck with a trailer hitch.

    Thanks

    Dan

    Don't worry I won'tto such a thing. It was such a thought.

  5. I've towed cars a few miles, but nothing like the 200 miles you'll be going. My Brat is in great mechanical condition and I wouldn't do it, and I'm usually up for anything. Get a real tow vehicle.... rent a truck perhaps. Towing with a Brat is no different than towing with a wagon.... you can tow small stuff, but a whole car on a dolly with cargo is stretching it a bit. Especially with your Brat being in questionable mechanical condition, and you haveing virtually none of the mechnanical knowledge to fix something should you break down. Couple that with a tow rig that couldn't possibly do 70 MPH safely with another Brat in tow, and you have the makings of a very dangerous trip. Going slower than the speed limit is statistically just as dangerous as speeding. Do the rest of us a favor and don't attempt something this stupid.

I'm thankful for your advice but I find myself little offended by some of your comments. I wasn't going to say this but I guess I'm. This is not your first time saying I do not have any knowledges on cars. I know that, that is why I keep on asking stupid questions on the board to learn about cars everyday. I know you are very experinced with cars but that doesn't give you right to stand above someone and tell them they are stupid because they don't know much about cars. I'm trying very hard everyday to learn slowly about cars. I know you have been in my place before and I hope you understand how I feel. You may not thinks it is anything personal, but I hope you understand other people's point of view. This is not an attack to a senior board member. I know I recently joined this board, but I think I have a right to defend myself as a human being. I'm 6 years younger than you and I ask you with all the respect that you too give me some respect. We don't know each other, and you only know of me by talking to my friends. I hope that we get to know eachother better, and I wish you could give me more advice in future (I'm not being sarcastic.)

    Thank you

    Dan

  6. Hi Qman, I need to talk to you tonight about the trailer hitch you have. I need to use the hitch by tomorrow morning. Please pm me your phone number.

    Thank you

    Dan

Hi people who knows qman's phone number, I need to talk to him tonight about this part I would like to buy from him. And if I do buy it, I probably have to pick it up early in the morning. So I would like to call him tonight and tell him that I'm going to be at his house early in the morning.

    Thanks

  7. I’m going to a college in Michigan with my Brat. The car currently has a 4 speed manual transmission. At high speed like over 65mph, the rpm is at around 4k. I know putting a lift kit and bigger tires will lower the rpm at high speed. Here comes my question. In Michigan, the speed limit on a highway is 80mph (or 70mph, I’m not sure) Anyways it is higher than here in Washington, I was wondering a 4spd transmission and lift kit with bigger tires will still stay at low rpm when I drive over 80mph (of course I’m going to get my engine rebuild before I go to Michigan) or is it wise to get a 5 speed transmission. I don’t know how much spare time I will have to go offroad during years of attending a college but I will go offroad once in a while. Oh and I will be on the pavement most of the time (like 70% or 80%).

    Thanks

  8. I assume this question had been on the board before, but I'm going to ask again.

I'm planning to do the 6 lug conversion for my brat. Could there be a possibility of the bolt getting stripped after drilling out the holes, and put the lugs into the holes? I mean the size of the drill bit has to be perfect match or slightly smaller than the size of the bolt right? but what if it gets stripped? What could be done to prevent this?

    Thanks

    Dan

  9. Sorry. I forgot about you guys. So far I have seen 5 drivable Brats in Bellevue.

    All the Brats in Bellevue

    1. Mine.

    2. Ben's

    3. Galen's (was... no longer have it)

    4. The green 2" lifted Brat(he works at the Kinko's)

    5. The old guy(forgot his name) Beige, really nice condition. I think it is 86.

    6. The guy who parks at the "park and ride" I haven't seen him yet.

    7. Forgot the color, but it is right now parked at this guy's house. Haven't seen it on the road.
