i purchased a new EA82 for my 87 GL. the distributor is different. i went to the junk yard and noticed its the same on all GLs from 1989+ my question is: is there a way to wire the newer distributor to my current harness or do i need to replace the harness and/or change to a newer ECU?

sorry for the lagged response. thanks for all the info though! i do believe the trans is stranger as some have suggested... though first gear just went out on it so im hunting down a new one.. i have an EJ22 5spd, though i dont know the model.. ill be examining it soon as its in someone else's garage right now

will it match up with the xt6 trans? (5spd) if not, is there an adapter, like the one for the EA82 cars?

ER-27: Cross-Threaded Bolt in Rocker Arm Cover
glcoupeguy replied to glcoupeguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ok thank you for the shopping list but the jb weld was used on a snapped part inside the cam carrier where th ebolt threads into. the female threaded section (whatever its called) snapped in half on the inside. this means i cant bolt down the valve/rocker arm cover so i would need a new cam carrier unless theres another fix -

well its just the valve cover so i think theres a good chance it will hold. if it doesnt im glad these heads split in half so i dont have to change a head gasket (which i have never done before) although getting a cam carrier gasket might be difficult. they probably need to be replaced anyways and this gives me an excuse to send the cams down to delta cam in tacoma -

my fan control doesnt work anymore so i wired my fans to the battery and to a switch which leads to ground but it fried the switch so... should i just add a resistor or should i do something else?

how much do you want for an XT6 radiator???? and where are you? if youre in western washington i will drive to you if the price is right
-
im 99% sure i have a GL radiator in my car. i went to get a hose and noticed it was way too long and lower radiator pipe is a smaller diameter than my water pump pipe. this causes it to constantly leak. the previous owner had a smaller hose adapter inside the larger hose but its worn out now and i cant find a replacement. i would prefer to have an XT6 radiator but im not sure which one is correct. heres a link -im pretty sure this one is correct (1985 - 1991 Subaru XT Vista-Pro Automotive Radiator) http://www.drivewire.com/vehicle/subaru-xt/radiator/?wZRd4It&dwcid=B1266309530W4b7a599a692e4 that website shows a radiator with the lower pipe in the center of the radiator. is that correct? and what is the other pipe pointing downward for? also, can i use a legacy radiator? i heard the diameter was the same as what i need.

good call. ill check there first -
sometimes my driver's side window controls decide to stop working. the passenger side works fine as does the window lock on the driver's side. this led me to believe it was the actual switches that dont work. (left and right window controls on driver's panel) i pulled them off and they seem fine. a poor connection on the motor itself perhaps? a friend had a similar problem but it was related to both windows and a relay.(bmw) since one side works im not so sure its a relay problem unless subaru wires them separately.

no but i do now i guess. new to the car

then why are the timing marks both at 12:00? well thats a relieving answer. thanks alot guys

skipping all the problems when i bought the car. replaced alternator, battery, coil, wires, plugs, shocks, water pump. i had to take off the right (drivers side, north america) timing belt to get at a water pump bolt. when i put the belt back on i was too lazy to check the timing marks. when i started the car the engine jumped around alot, i screamed in terror and turned it off. i calmed myself down, telling myself its a non-interference engine. so i aligned the timing and now it seems like half the engine isnt working. it still drives for some reason though it backfires alot in the intake in the low rpm range and seems like im down to about 30hp. on another note i replaced the spark plugs on that side to no effect. do i need to pull the head off? --- it seems like im running on 5, 4 or even 3 pistons. theres no grinding sounds and its very quiet except for the backfiring which isnt very loud either. (sounds like popcorn in the microwave)
