  1. Battle-wagon-medic, why the slam on Penzoil? I have heard all kinds of bad stuff from all sorts of folks about Penz and never had anything at all bad happen. I have been using the stuff since '62. The truth is I could have used any brand just so I used something REGULARLY.
  2. Chip, what happens if you remote start and you for some crazy reason don't have any oil pressure?:boohoo:
  3. Battery & window washer tank removal is a step in the correct direction. Intake duct removal for the other side highly recommended if you have not done it already. Getting the boots off require a twist first and then a pull & it will require both hands. My Forester plugs at 20K miles were a PAIN to get the boots off! Good luck and may your knuckles survive!
  4. Theotherskip, you're description is right on the money. Sorry to hear the reset did not work. And for Subielover2212 I was listening: you said TPS and I responded with TSB! I agree with TPS but I discounted it for an actual test since "the problem" does not occur in the same spot every time. That is, it seems to be a function of manifold pressure and not of throttle position. The thing is still noticably smoother in transition from torque to trail and back again.
  5. No CEL, just crummy throttle action. So where do I locate TSB's to browse?
  6. This is a newer, easier and faster Subie message board! You all done good! And thanks to Shawn & Josh for listening to my whining.... Reset my Baja ECU yesterday using the battery disconnect method. Looked in the Owner's manual about fuse panel and found NOTHING about ECU, did find TCU but my Baja has the 5spd MT. Got the 10mm boxend wrench & disconnected the ground for about 45 minutes. You would not believe the difference! I had a real crabby throttle: either accel or decel, NO smooth transition. You could NOT drive across a parking lot in first or second at a reasonable speed without being JERKED back & forth as it went accel/decel. And FORGET cruise! Uphill, upwind and level ok. NO slight downhill or it would jerk back & forth. Now it is smooth as glass. I learned this reset ECU business right here with you guys & gals! Thanks! Karl
  7. Josh, what in the world is a "motor vac" device? I never heard of such and need some education. What fuse on the legacy/baja do you pull to reset the ecu? Sound easier than disconnecting the battery. Karl
  8. Plenty of good info on this and it cycles regularly and somehow never gets boring. Like the bit about using the sandpaper to get the filter removed. Never heard about that. I intend to try it. The other thing I will try is the bag or bottle trick. I think the 4.2 quarts is the most recent editions of 2.5 engines. I had a '01 Forester and now have a '03 Baja and both were 4.2 qts in the engine. I am still puzzled as to why they picked something other than an integral number of quarts and made the pan that size. Too eazy, huh? Like window washer tanks: the Forester was over one gallon so you could get a whole bottle of washer fluid in it. The Baja is back in the stone age where you always have about pint left in the jug.
