  1. Any tips? Yeah, learn to love oil. You're going to be dealing with it constantly with a subaru.
  2. Chip: Were the two that were worn the two closest to the firewall? If so, that's normal. Also, platnum will usually last longer, as far as the metal is concerned. But as for spark, platnum will deterrorate just as quickly b/c of deposits. The deposits act as an insolator. So, platnum good until 30k or so and could be cleaned and regapped with still-good metal. Copper would deterorate, so metal must be filed down to good metal and square and regapped---though not worth it for the price of 4 copper plugs!
  3. GET ON THAT PROBLEM!!! I also had the 2.8 w/ the balancer blowing apart on the wife's car on the highway--New covers, timing belt, tensioner pulley, and of course the balancer. (Over $700 in damages) The thing also left a big gash on the block. I called Subaru--the car had about 80K miles at the time. They didn't wan't to hear about it, as pathetic as the problem was on their part. Then get rid of the thing. I just did the oil pan, and paid $15 for a little rubber grommet, and the mechanics want almost $200 to tune the thing, and it has no cap and rotor!! (STILL haven't found the leak!) Then there are all the faulty codes...So I work on it. And work on it. And work on it. I can't wait for it to die. The wife loves it, (she dosn't have to work on it) but she's on her own if she want's another one. Knowing what it costs to have a garage work on it has conviced her not to get another one of those things. I own a Ford truck, and thought it was a piece of junk until I started dealing with Subarus. Don't know what y'all see in them. Might as well have an american car with all the problems Subaru has.
  4. Thanks Glenn...but an oil pan will get a lil' bit hotter then a diff. --Jim
  5. Hi everyone..I'm new here. I signed up a while ago, but never had to post b/c I always found info I needed by searching. Anyway, the girlfriend has a '98 legacy w/ the 2.5. I'm doing the infamous subaru leak chase, and just got the oil pan back on. Question is, the RTV I used for a gasket says it sets in 1 hr. and fully cures in 24 hrs. When can I put oil in it/ start it/ drive it? Can I do this now (an hour passed) or do I wait 24? Thanks in advance, --Jim
