  1. I have the same problem in my '98 Legacy Brighton......I sprayed 70% Isopropyl alcohol at it and then sprayed canned air duster to blow it in there, worked the buttons, still not functioning correctly, the defrost button when depressed engages the A/C compressor normally but no air from the defrost, mine is stuck on vent/floor now. 285,000 miles and counting......
  2. My ,1998 Legacy Brighton AWD 2.2L,check engine light keeps coming on and the same code P302 keeps re-appearing. After the engine is warmed and hot, I can hear some "popping" type noise from the exhaust as I stand behind it. Runs good and fuel mileage is still near 30 mpg. Plugs and wires time? Any other things to check out and start replacing? 230K miles and still going strong. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  3. Thanks for all the replies to my question. I might as well spend a little more $$ now than a whole bunch more later, better safe than sorry. Doesn't look that hard to replace the rest of the idlers and tensioner. Any hints as to how to break the front crank bolt loose? Hold the pulley w/a strap wrench and pull the inspection cover/plug to use a screwdriver to hold the flywheel? Seen this on a youtube video.
  4. My '98 Legacy Brighton 2.2L has 220,500 miles and is due for a timing belt. Since there is no cooling system issues or bearing noise can I just change out the timing belt and keep on going? Money is tight so I am trying to do it as cheaply as possible. Who has the best belt besides the dealer? Thanks in advance for your input.....Mike
  5. Checked with the Subaru dealer and the brake master cylinder was replaced under the recall. I removed the vacuum line from the engine to the booster and blew compressed air through it. It appears to be just fine, check valve is working and no moisture was observed exiting from the hose from the air being blown through it. The booster I purchased from O'Reilly's was wrong of course so that went back. Still puzzled.......thanks for all of the input to this problem, reallly appreciate it guys!!
  6. I will check on recalls to see if any are related to this problem..Thanks for the input.
  7. Thanks for all the replies to this problem. The weather here around Denver Colorado has been quite cold recently, below 0 degrees at night. Kids were driving the car last night and no problems were reported. I didn't have a chance to look things over under the hood to see if there is any water/ice in the vacuum line to the booster. I have a new booster ready to go in if needed.
  8. My 1999 Legacy SUS Limited AWD ABS 186,000 miles has a brake problem that happens intermittently. When the pedal is applied it feels as if there are no brakes at all, pedal is hard as a rock and car won't stop. Happened to my 17 year old daughter coming home last night, would not stop when the pedal is depressed. Then in less than a minute it feels normal. I suspect the booster has a problem and needs to be replaced. Thanks in advance for any help. Mike
  9. There was no airbag deployment in the accident, the other vehicle attempted a right-hand turn from the lane next to them and clipped the left front corner, I just looked at the l/f sensor and there is no sheetmetal or body wrinkles anywhere around it, everything under the front end looks to be just fine.
  10. Where is the module or computer located? I guess I will start there and work my way around the vehicle and check some connectors as I locate them....airbag repairs can total some of these cars pretty quick even when the visible damage isn't that bad...........no worries though, I still am enjoying the car and can't wait for another Colorado winter.
  11. Wow, fast reply, thanks........yes it was in a fender bender in the left front a year ago by now, dented in the plastic bumper and I got it popped back out, damaged the marker/turn signal lamp housing and some sheetmetal bending. Insurance paid my nephew $2400 for the car and they then sold it to me for $500 as a commuter. Did I read the codes right? I also need the headlights and buckets as the front end needs some TLC.... I think it will probably have a salvage title when I get it this month and then take it in for the emissions test.
  12. Hello, I am new to this forum. This is also my first Subaru, it has 191,000 on it, is an AWD and has no tachometer(must be an "L") and it runs just great. The Airbag Light has been on since I purchased it 6 months ago, then about 500 miles ago it went off and now it's back on. I found the diagnostic connector and retrieved codes 11 and 22 I think, long flash, short flash, then long flash, long flash and short flash , short flash. Could someone help me out with what these codes mean. Thanks in advance........Mike
