  1. SubieGal can update this further, but as of today, the FF-1 is on display at America's Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington!  (also known as LeMay's Automotive Museum)

The exhibit is called "SHINKA" and is basically a HUGE JDM exhibit with all sorts of Japanese brands being featured.  SubieGal has quite a few other cars there too!

Sadly, I probably won't get to see the exhibit due to family issues :( But this is beyond what I could ever have accomplished with the car and I can die happy now :D

The exhibit opens to the public on 3/16/2024 and will supposedly be around awhile if anyone wants to see it on display!!!

  2. Haven't had any issues to date and honestly unsure what fluid Steve had in the car initially, I've not swapped the fluids just yet - but it is interesting to hear that we should avoid the DOT-3!! NOTED!!

Indeed people LOVE the front brakes - especially when they realize that they are inboard DRUM brakes. I think that temperature should not be a problem. It doesn't really get hot here in Seattle so I do not foresee heat being an issue at any time - we have a very mild climate here.

Unfortunately the dual radiator (which i think is the coolest thing ever!!) was removed from the car before I obtained ownership. I am currently looking for a replacement so if you run into one - anywhere - please let me know!  :D

I have purchased a 1300G center console hump from the Japan auctions. Need to get it shipped over - it's far too loud in the car without it - and we were docked points at the last car show for "no carpet"  ;)  :P  Can't install carpet without the center console pieces in place - - I am pondering what to do for bumpers still but I am sure I will find a good and reasonable solution! It may take a bit of time but I will get that worked out

Thank YOU for taking interest, sharing your story and expertise. So nice that she has so many that love her so

DO NOT run the dual radiator with the engine in the car!!!

Its a high compression, solid-deck block with the upgraded intake manifold and carbs, and needs to be run with high octane gas as well.  This engine needs good cooling!!!

I was going to get a custom made aluminum radiator to properly cool the engine, but used the later EA radiator because I didn't have the money at the time.

I know your inclination is to restore everything back to stock, but that could potentially be a disaster with this engine!!!  Those dual radiators could barely cool the original motors, and obviously were never used again after the FF-1.

As for the brakes, I did use the updated rubber seals plus some lubricant that helps prevent leaks, and the brakes should be as good as new but can run any modern fluid.  My only "concern" with the brakes are the zip ties I used for the remote resevoir instead of clamps, but I installed those 3 years ago and if they aren't leaking now they are obviously OK LOL!

As for the carpet, the carpet was actually underneeth the center console.  So you can install it now then put the console over top of the carpet.  Look into any sound deadening/anti-heat material you might want to install under the carpet before you do so.  Also keep looking into under-body protectant!!!

  3. Yes, I saw tons of parts being scrapped when I worked at a dealer.  Its common practice.

We tried to NOT do this kind of thing just in case something like this would pop up... But legally its supposed to be done.

I've been Following this thread since its very beginnings...

In the U.S.A, some car Dealers mark the oldest parts that did not sell,

    As "Unsold" parts, and before disposal (for smelting, in example) they disable the part;

So, the Subaru Dealer drilled Holes to that Block, unfortunately...

But somehow never went to Scrap.

  4. Had some craziness happen again today :(

I've been smelling fuel in the garage the last week or so, and I found that the fuel line that went to the carb was leaking a bit. So I pulled the car out of the garage for today.

I went to fiddle with the fuel line and as soon as I did it started spewing fuel EVERYWHERE! I clamped it as quickly as I could, but not before a lot of fuel got in the engine bay.

I figured there was something going on with fuel pressure, so I went to unplug the fuel cap... Couldn't get it off. Had to tap it a few times and finally get a good enough grip on it, and as soon as I did the thing EXPLODED like a shaken soda can!!!

I have no idea whats going on with that, but I'm leaving the fuel cap off for now. I figure something is wrong with the fuel tank being pressurized like that, might have to do with running the fuel pump last year and leaving it sitting for so long with all the changes in temperature over that time.

Any ideas about whats going on? Maybe I need some sort of pressure-release fuel cap?

Anyway, some photos while I had the car outside...

  5. Got the rear side windows installed. The latches from the old Corolla seem to work perfectly:

Took a bit of finesse to get those installed, and I had to modify the top little bracket because the changes to the paint/body made it impossible to use how it was before (had a little nub thing, removed that and made a hole for a bolt instead). My uncle helped out this time, and he came up with the idea of removing part of the bulb seal temporarily to get these in, I would have never thought of that, LOL!
