So i'm wondering if there is any other motors (besides another ej22 phase 2) that will fit into the 99 impreza outback sport? I'm having a hard time finding another phase 2. Can i just swap the phase 2 intake onto another ej22 and if so what year of ej22 will work? And is there any sure way to tell what year a motor is by the numbers on it? Thank you again for your help! 99 OBS is a phase 2 ej22. they only made them 99 - 01?. i think the intakes are different , or may be the head configuration, than phase 1. 99 was the last year for the ej22 in legos and 01? the last year in the impreza. no more ej22, not even in europe. go figure?
i think you need another engine.
Thanks for the help! I guess i just need to find a 99 phase 2 ej22 so i can just plug it in with no modification. Does this seem like my only option to you? Do you know if a phase 1 99 ej22 will work?

The intake is definetly different! damit! sounds like i need to locate a phase 2 ej22 from a 99? i know this is now my best option! Thanks! Elliott

i have a 99 impreza outback sport that i bought with a bad knock in the ej22 motor so i found another ej22 and bought it. i got it home and realized it's a bit different. it only has 4 trans bolts compaired to six on the other motor/trans and it appears the wiring harness has different plug-ends on it!? is it possible to use this motor with a few mods or should i find one thats a perfect fit? Thanks in advance guys!

I need to swap out my 2.5 5-sp. with a 2.2 auto motor. wondering if i can use the same ecu, flywheel, exhaust ect... anything else i should consider or be prepared for? I guess i'm wondering if this is a pretty straight swap? and where can i find out how to read the 2.2 engine code to see what year it's out of. it's (584116583045) Thanks for everything!
