  1. Yeah, I was thinking I must of wired it wrong. So the White Wire on the old is the signal wire not the black. That makes sense. I'll change it tomorrow and see how she goes. Thanks all Yep I mis wired it. It's fine now.
  2. 91 Legacy I got a cel code for o2 sensor and put a new one in. Now it runs like crap. Black smoke out of the exhuast, sputtering, fuel smell, and dying. When I unplug the sensor from the ecu it runs just fine as it was. I tried clearing the code by disconnecting the batter overnight, but when I tested it this moring w/o starting the code was still present. Is this just a matter of resetting the ecu? Why won't the thing reset after 8 hours with the battery being disconnected? I did use a after market OEM sensor, that I had to wire myself. OLD NEW red - white white - white black - black Pretty sure this is the right connection.
  3. Excellent, thanks for the knowledge on this... I guess I'll just replace the thermostat with a new subaru one and call it good.
  4. Just above freezing...I don't think this is a new issue. I haven't been driving the car for the past few months due to the idle problem. I was just hoping to get it fixed in time for the snow. It was going to be my ski car. Maybe I should just get the water pump changed anyway since I have no idea when t-belt was done last, but just wanted to rule out other scenarios before I spend. -Thanks
  5. I don't see any fluid flowing with the cap off. Doesn't appear to be sucking from the tank either. I replaced cap to no change. I put in a new thermostat to no avail and checked the old one in boiling water and it opened up. I put the old one back on because it was a genuine subaru one, new one was chincy looking... No CEL code using the black connector method.
  6. Well, it's as if the car thinks it running cold even when hot. Constant High idle, it doesn't drop to normal idle. Dieseling when turned off indicating hot spots in the cylinders. The two coolant hoses going to the thermostat in the IACV are not even hot. I don't think coolant is circulating. With the cap off of the radiator and the engine running you can clearly see there is no flow, it's just sitting. The bottom radiator hose is freezing and top one is steaming. I can drive for 30 min and open the cap and the coolant will be cold. Actually the heater doesn't work very well either, just warm air not hot. I'm not sure if the fans are cycling...It seems they are always running once temperature is reached. Would a bad water pump/clogged radiator cause idle issues or am I wrong to connect the two? Thanks
  7. Okay. It seems my radiator is clogged, but I want to see what you think. Top of radiator hose gets hot, bottom of hose and cap area are cold. There is not leakage. Heaters work fine. Does not overheat. Tstat is not stuck. When car is at full temperature radiator fans are running, but radiator is cold. I can run a stream of water through both top and bottom hoses when I force water in through the fill hole. Radiator cap, didn't try that one yet. If it is clogged how do I fix it? and please don't say it's the water pump. 91 legacy 2.2 Thanks
  8. ECU does not throw any codes. NO vacuum issues. Everything checks out. The only thing I touched was the IACV so the issue must lie there. Wonder why the new one I put in didn't help? Could the MAF sensor cause this and if so wouldn't that throw a code? When I pull the intake line to the iac it idles low as it should. When I turn off the engine it doesn't shut off right away, but does some dieseling. Wish I would have never messed with this.
  9. Indeed I did mess with the solenoid and it seems to move just fine and dandy. I don't think I have an adjustable solenoid. It's just 2 screws and 2 holes and I replaced the solenoid with the valve. I'll try to pull codes tomorrow to see if I get anything first I have to research how to do it.
  10. Okay so a few weeks ago I decided to do something about the cold start idle problems on my 91 Legacy. I cleaned the IAC valve and PCV lines as suggested. And what do you know? The car now idles fine with a cold start, but will maintain the high 2.5rpm idle even when warmed up. Keep in mind, before I touched it it idled perfect when warm. Today I pulled an old iacv out of a wrecked and swapped it in mine and it didn't do a bit of good. Still idles like it's cold. Any suggestions what could be wrong?
  11. I just had this same problem on the 91 legacy I recently purchased. I found it was the rattle of the brake assist (which was disabled) cable end bolt against the clutch fork where the the clutch cable connects. Also the clutch cable was loose. I would try tightening the clutch cable first. Maybe just put a little pressure on the clutch fork with your hand while the engine is idling to see if that stops the noise...
  12. I really thought about cutting this off too. It took me about an hour of fiddling with it until I finally got it off. I used gas to clean it up too, but wasn't thorough about getting it dried out before reinstalling maybe that's why it's idling at 3000 rpm now. I'm hoping it's just the gas burn off and not a stuck valve. I haven't had a chance to take it for a good drive yet to see if that were the case. I really don't want to have to take this off again...
  13. I may get grief for this but, if the car runs great on the 1.8 why put a new one in? If it was me I would wait until things went bad. You may have a lot of use left on that old engine. Or maybe just find a cheap shell you could throw the 2.2 in Then you'd have a commuter and a play toy.
  14. And that note... My 91 Legacy I just purchased has crazy dirty tranny fluid and I need to change it real quick like, but was wondering if it would help to rinse it out with a change and then change it again shortly after? Or should I not bother?
  15. Yay! I found my bushings thanks! I also found an excellent diagram featuring the basic subaru shifter system which mine looks almost identical too.
  16. I have this same problem. Did you ever figure out what was up? If so let me know. Thanks

  17. Do any of you guys now where i can get shifter bushings for 91 Legacy? I can't find any information about this year or if they are the same as newer models. Are the bushings attached to the shift linkage or shifter? Any help would be appreciated.
  18. I had the same problem with my 91 legacy. I cleaned the iacv like suggested now the car idles @ 2.5 rpm even when warmed up. I'm so tired of messing with this. Any suggestions?
