Fuel Pump Problem? and/or Suggestion for Weber
AkWoody replied to BlueRu's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Also, Blu you were debating on the rebuild.I just rebuilt my engine in my dinning room. It's pretty easy. I've never done anything like it before but the Hayne's manual was pretty spot on. I found a place that sells remanned Heads for $150 with a 12 Mo warranty. Cylinder Heads International. They're in Grand Prarie Tx. $20 shipping and no upfront core charge. A gasket set for $160 that was complete except for the EGR gaskets on the heads. I was able to reuse one and just spray-a-gasket on the other. works fine. I was basically able to do a rebuild (keep in mind my cams, pistons and crank were all in great shape) for about $500 including heads. When you take your heads off look between the intake and exhaust for a fine crack (might have to take the valves out and look inside) You'll likely have to do a little scraping too to see it. Chances are they are cracked. I had no idea until I pulled them due to a piece of valve breaking off. She hauls rump roast now! -
Fuel Pump Problem? and/or Suggestion for Weber

I did check those. I figured out the FPCU is bad and just hotwired to the Fuse for the pump with a piggyback. Runs great! Man this Weber is better than I expected. No tuning either. -
Fuel Pump power on 87 2bbl.

I found out to check the Rev Sensor behind the driver kick panel. Heading out to get-r-dun for class tomorrow. -
Hey everybody. I have an 87 1800 2bbl 4x wagon and just installed my new Weber Carb. Now I have no power to the Fuel pump. Did hotwire to another battery, the pump works, did change Filter. Only thing unplugged electrically was the one directly into the cutoff on the old Hitachi. Has anyone had this happen? Is there a relay? The Hayne's says no on this model ( Carbed). I've heard the ECU supplies ground too and this may be burnt out. but how do I check? Also, how in the world is a Fuel pump only supplied power in the "ON" position but not in the "RUN" position??? I'm going by a wiring diagram. Doesn't make sense. Oh, ya, The fuse is good too. Any tricks or troublshooting tips would be awesome!!! THANKS! Woody

Bubbels in raditor after head gasket
AkWoody replied to coolskaterkid's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
BTW- The torque specs and stages for an EA 82 head is 22,43,47. Go in the correct order too. Remember they're aluminum, start on the inside most bolts and go clockwise working outwards. -
Make sure you can return the electric choke if it doesn't fit. Usually don't with P/S

Converting from an auto choke to a manual one
AkWoody replied to rxleone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Regarding the Weber Carb upgrade, go through these guys. I've spoken with them on the phone several times and Jim, one of the owners, is extremely knowledgable. If you have power steering you must choose between keeping it and having a manual choke or having an auto choke and no P/S. If you order a carb for a car with P/S make sure you call to order it so they can include the manual choke. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-1985-1987-1-8L-OHC-EA82-Weber-Carb-Conversion_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cec9cf593QQitemZ330387223955QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories I'm pretty fed up with my Hitachi, just rebuilt the motor and it's got lot's of attitude. Buying a Redline from them next month if not sooner. -
1.8L L4 2BBL ??<-- What is this?
AkWoody replied to LuckyPistol's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
1.8L =displacement L4 = Laterally opposed - Some euro/aussie speak for what we call an H4, some even call them a "flat 4" 2BBl = 2 Barrel Carb, 2 barrels are strictly Hitachi. -
I have an 87' Wagon GL-10 2 BBL w/ PS (no A/C) and want to know what emissions garbage I can take off the carb/intake. Every time I open the hood another hose is broken or cracked and since most of them are no longer in production I want to strip it down to bare bones and still run OK. I know about the Redline Carb conversion that is available but not interested in spending $325 and getting stuck with a manual choke (if you have P/S you have 2 options- manual choke and P/S or Electric Choke and no P/S) or spending the $325 at all when my carb is fine. Anyone done this or know of a resource to help me out???? THANKS!!!!!!!!
