  1. OK there you are. The next question is: Can we afford the car??? How many VAT do you have to pay in Switzerland? In Germany it is now 16% - that my explain the price difference. Anyways, if you don't have to pay that much for the car (incl. VAT) I have to make a trip to Switzerland...
  2. By the way: The specs are giving interesting details about the mileage of the new Legacy. The 2.5 Wagon new needs 8,3 liters / 100 km = 28.5 miles per gallon (hope I calculated correctly) The 3.0R Wagon needs 9.8 liters / 100 km = 24 miles per gallon I find it very interesting that the 0-62 mph numbers are just the same, at least for the 2.5 Wagon. Althogh the car is 100 kg lighter than before. The 3.0R is fully loaded with some new stuff like electric seat for driver and co-driver, height adjustable seat also for co-driver, LSD, DVD Navigation, moonroof, 5-speed sportshift, 17 inch wheels - things that the other models don't get (at least here in Germany). But the price still seems high. The 2.5 is available with less options for 28.200 Euro. With a comfort package for 4.800 Euro you can get the leather, electric seat (only for the driver), seat heating - but no moonroof and no curtain air bag. The last 2 options seem to be reserved for the 3.0R. Now I am thrilled what the model lines in US will look like. And what options the 2.5 Turbo will get. Probably we won't see the 2.5 Turbo here in Europe. But there were some rumours that we will get the 2.0 Turbo in 2 years - until then Subare is planning to pass the emission limits. Like in US it also time for a powerful aspirated engine for the european Legacy. Wonder why Subaru didn't take the 2.0 Turbo from the Impreza to the Legacy. Now this is history and we are looking to a new powerful Legacy age! Cheers!
  3. I think this might be interesting also for the folks in US. The german prices for the new Legacy / Outback are out. If you want to check it out by yourself, look at http://www.subaru.de. There is Link at the end of the text "Spezifikation ..." for the specifications and prices. I am a little bit shocked! The prices for the 2.0 and the 2.5 are ok. But the prices for the 3.0 l Legacy and Outback are a little bit ... HIGH (I have to make a friendly visit to my friendly bank...) The price for the 3.0 l Legacy Sedan is 40.100 EURO, Wagon is 41.300 EURO, and the Outback is 42.800 EURO. The 3.0 l has everthing in it, by the way. DVD, Leather, Moonroof, electric seats (driver and codriver) and so on. A lot of things I don't looking for, frankly said. Now this is a big pile of money, maybe to big for me ... The 2.5 l Wagon starts with 28.200 EUROS without the comfort features, and 4.800 EURO more for this stuff. That sounds more suitable for me ... Please note that the prices in Germany seem to be higher than the US prices. And I am sure the specs will differ. We always had no big choice with the comfort stuff, this time we have are offered an increased model line. But the price for 3.0 l .... :boohoo:
  4. Sorry Setright for that bad news from the bank :argue: Maybe you can save some money during the next few month or year. So you will have a nice start to go shopping for a "used" new Legacy. With some luck you will get a show car for a reasonable price. I saved 25% when I bought my Legacy 2.5 GX. It was a little over a year and had 25.000 km on the tach. Saved 8000 Euros. Experience tells that you can be sure that in 6 months there will be lot of dealers that want to sell there show car Legacy. At least here in Germany (Subaru has a long way to go to be mentioned with the Top makes like Mercedes or BMW - maybe it will never happen). So i am thrilled what the prices of the new model are. In two weeks I will know more. Then let me see what my bank account manager has to say to my plannings. Hope not he wins the fight. During fast highway driving (180 km/h) my Legacy needs 10 l/km most of the time. If there is no limit for the running horses - with a speed of 220 km/h - the babe wants to be fed with 11,5 l/km - 13 l/km. Not too bad.
  5. Sorry for you, calbz. That must be the worst Subaru I ever heard of. I''ve had several Subarus but never stranded. And of course there have been some faults, but only a few. The first car I owned was an Opel Vectra. I am so glad I found the way to Subaru. I hope that you will get fixed your car one day in the future.
  6. And now why should a auto company admit a design flaw if there is no reason to? That is the problem we are facing with the head gasket failure. The failure still doesn't happen enough (by the way what a luck) to urge Subaru to take care of this problem. Maybe they recognized the problem and made some changes. But we all can be sure that they won't give us a cost free new engine! There always have been several models with design flaws. And some sold like hotdogs. May it be that the Subaru crowd is a little bit dissapointed that there IS a "smal"l problem with the engine???
  7. I would say a solid fact would be a third party appraisal stating that there is technical or design failure which leads to the head gasket problem. Or if EVERY 2.5 engine would suffer the head gasket failure. Now it seems that there are lot of head gasket failures but not on every engine. And we don't know the exact portion. High mileage or the driving habits could be the reason for the failure ... For me it looks like that Subaru made a small design flaw. More people than usual are reporting the head gasket problem. Subaru owners are just don't used to it. And then are very disappointed about that situation. Let's hope that it will turn for the better with the new model. At the moment it looks like it will ...
  8. Can't imagine that they will admit there is a head gasket problem if it can't be proven by solid facts! This would be a get my money back license for every Subaru owner that experiences a head gasekt problem. Good for the owners, bad for Subaru ...
  9. Hmmm, you only had to remove the grill? Maybe there is a difference betwenn US and Japan built Legacys in this matter. I always had to remove the whole door board.
  10. Already installed an aftermarket set of 6.5 2-way speakers in my brothers 95 Legacy. If the speakers are not to deep it should be no big problem. I had to make a custom ring out of ply wood to install it (about two cm thick). The problem is that the original speakers have different mounting holes then the aftermarket stuff. Wonder if there is some ready aftermarket ring available in the US ... You have to take the whole door panel off. Sorry. But it is not to hard.
  11. You are a lucky man! I guess you had a big fat smile in your face after touching the new model ... I own a 2.5 GX Wagon (current "porky" model. My car experienced the head gasket problem twice. But never had to pay a cent for it (and also no pfennig ...) I am quite satisfied with this engine. It's more powerful than the actual 2.0. If I would buy the Legacy now, I would take the 2.5 again - despite of the head gasket problems. I think the problem should be solved now (I hope it at least). With the new model you have some more options. We all have to drive the new 2.0 engine to see if it's similar to the acutal 2.5 or not. But of course the new 2.5 will be faster. I will target for the new 3.0 engine - 245 HP - sexy six - hmmm .... I would prefer the 2.5 turbo, but that engine is obviously not available in Germany. I would recommend to wait for a test drive in the new model. Drive the 2.0 and you will see if it is sufficient for you. It will be cheapest solution in matters of price and cost (mileage, insurance). Ok, if you can't afford the new model now - why don't wait a little bit. Then you will get a dealer show car with low mileage for a reasonable price. If you like the new model more then the current, don't get fooled by the discount. I checked out the prices for an Outback H6-3.0 a few months ago. I found a 1 year old car, fully painted in silver, only 10.000 km, every option in it (as every H6 here in Germany ...) for only 27.000 Euro. The price for the new was about 37.500 Euro. This way you can save a lot of the value loss. And I don't think that the dealers will sell the new Legacy with no discount. At least not here in Germany ... I am planning to visit the IAA - if you want, send me a pm at the 20th of September and I will pass the german prices. On the other side - if you like the current model and don't mind to pass the new one, then get. It's a good deal. But there will be always good deals... Remember, there are more products to sell than customers to buy it. Also the comment about lease could be a solution if it is to expensive to finance the new model. Difficult situation. It is always the same - I also want to buy a new Legacy but I am not really sure if I can afford it ...
  12. Ok, the new Legacy will be available within this year in Germany! Subaru will show it at the IAA in September and then it will be at the dealers lots! I guess in Denmark it will be a similar situation. Sorry for the guys overseas that have to wait a little longer... And if your are looking for 2.0 model I would suggest to wait for the new model - I am sure it will be more fun to drive! Consider the increased HP of the 2.0 engine - 138 instead of 125. That will make some better times. And the lower weight. It's bigger and better, for sure. A german guy on another forum stated that he already took a seat in the new model and didn't wont to get out of it! Should be worth waiting. And if your are price sensitive - why don't wait 6 months and buy a show car? (Is that the right word???) Then you'll get a nice discount, too. And don't mind about your "old" Legacy. I doubt that it will loose that much value during few month.
  13. Ok, that's really a huge discount. Not bad at all. If you need the car now, then buy a new "old" model. In your situation I would wait for the new model. You will get a discount, too. Not that huge but there will be a discount. You get the new model. Now! (Only a few months). I think your baby will hold up that long ... Consider the advantages of the new model: more HP (also for the base 2.0 model, less weight (that will also you make feel more power), decreased mileage (look to the numbers of the new Impreza) and last but not least the new improved look and a nicer interior. Don't you think that's not worth the money and the wait? And there is another reason - here in Europe you don't have to wait one year or longer to get the new style ... I for myself am waiting 2 months longer for the new model - hopefully a 3.0R Wagon if I can afford it.
