  1. I've been looking at this pic and can't seem to figure it out.... are the braces something you have to make.. or are you replacing the spring pin only??? Pls advise, as my shifter is so sloppy i can hardly shift and I am desperte to try any mods needed.. Thx
  2. I have had the same trouble with the carb on my 86 gl hatch ea82.. And much like you I have about the same budget...lol I have to wire the choke shut just to get it to idle and then it's at 1500-2500 rpm.. I can't find a decent replacement carb for any less than $250... and I have found webber kits for around $350... I know nothing about rebuilding a carb, and am not the best mechanic in the world either..lol... I would like to re-do the old hitachi thats on it - unless someone can tell me how to get rid of the mass of vacum hoses that lie under the hood... ( thats my main fear of going with a webber...) By the time I pay someone to rebuild my carb.. I could buy a new one!!. So I'm stuck.. and considering I drive my car for work... I need someting I can at least do in one evening.. ( or at worst one day ).... I have an 87 gl wagon that also has an ea82 parts car but its minus a carb... If anyone needs body parts or interior parts.. I would be willing to consider partial trade on a good used carb.. I will pay the diff... i just need HELP...
  3. I just finished this project today.. did both sides... It really wasn't that bad.. It was the first repair I have ever really done on a sube...on;y took about 45 mins each side and a 12 pack:drunk: ..lol The only thing I can say is watch your threads on the end of the axle ... and when it comes to the pin near the tranny... Use an allen wrench and a pair of vice grips to run it thru... be careful not to jam it in the hole...cuz it's not easy to remove:banghead: ..lol..
  4. Hey John... I'm in eastern Ky.. just south of ashland abt 25 - 30 mins... Lemme know what ya need and I'll see what I got....I usually come to the col.. area every month or so to visit family.. so we may even be able to work out a delivery if your anywhere near Obetz.. And to every one else!... Thanks so much for the help and advice....I'm looking for a cheap repair to the carb problem... I have a used set of 40 mm webbers from a vw that I used to own...Dual 40's ohh yeah... But i can't find a manifold to fit a sube....guess i'm not looking in the right place....go figure! as far as the wheel well's... My wagon dosen't have any...lmao... I removed them along with about a half ton of other non essential parts.. my daily driver is the one that i need to find a well fitting set for... I'm not too wild about drilling holes as I've always been told that you can throw your wheels out of balance an mabey do some damage to the axle or even worse the diff... That and I'm not the best mech. in the world either...Kinda a step below shade-tree ya know..lol C'yall on the trails.. Shaggy:drunk:
  5. Hey Y'all, New Member Here........Here's my plight... I recently had 2 sube's fall into my lap.. One is an 86 gl wagon 4 wd 5 spd, the other is an 87 Gl 3 door hatch 4 wd 5 spd.. Both are 1800 purely stock.... I need to know what wheels if any I can use to replace the narrow lil 13's that are on em... I perfer 15's... Or is there an adapter out there similar to the VW to Chevy lug pattern? And I also need info on affordable Carb upgrades... all 4 of the carbs I do have, each have problem with the choke....The thing will idle great.. but you hit the gas and it die's... unless of course you pat the gas like you playing a bass drum..lol... whitch gets tiresome after the first mile or two... I'm wanting to keep the hatchback for a daily driver... But the wagon I could care less about... Its my "buggy" project...hahaha Btw... anyone needing doors hatch or any other non-esential parts for a wagon are welcomed to ask... I'm basicly giving them away... Thanks in advance for the help.. Great site..By far the best I've found yet
