  1. Here: http://bustedfingermotorsports.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=211&sid=2a8b57b6808cf381297f57b40530eed6 O. Thanks so much, this will be very helpful. I didn't know that the rest of the car was pretty much the same, The VDC trans is also applicable to me. I will have to pick up a Haynes manual, It sure makes things easier working on any of my other vehicles.
  2. I also wish I had looked at this before I attempted to change the passenger side axle. Same head, snapped off the same bolt. I had lots of penetrating oil on it for hours before hand, but as soon as it snapped I knew I shouldn't have had a 2' breaker bar on a 10mm bolt I drilled it out and replaced with a 10mm 1.5 x 60mm with red locktight and double nut, I tried a locknut, but found that to get the pinch seem tight all I was doing was destroying the locknut, potentially having it break later down the road. Forgive me for my ignorance, i typically only work off of a service manual, but as my car is the H6 Haynes doesn't make one, and I can't find one anywhere else. I'm pretty much going at everything blind. Does anyone on here know the torque spec for the lower balljoint spindle. I tightened to 58ft/lbs then went to the next spot to get the cotter pin through (likely 58-70ft/lbs) I followed what the specs were for my nissan, cause I thought it might be close. Also Caster angle was mentioned above. Is this the angle (up and down) that the tire makes with the road. I don't understand how this can be adjusted, it seems like it's something set from factory and only changes with suspension cycle, the only way I see to change it, is with longer or shorter springs. The reason I ask, is because a year or so I go, I changed all 4 struts. My passenger side wheel (top) looks to be a little further away from the vehicle than drivers side. I don't notice anything in terms of bump steer or death wobble, everything seems good when driving. I've had an alignment since and it still looks the same. Is this something I should be concerned with?
  3. So, 5 years after this thread was started, is there anybody with experience replacing the H6 valve cover gaskets. Mine are leaking on both sides although I also thought it might be head gasket as there is also fluid leaking from the front of the engine. I'll try to get it up on stands and take a photo when It's back from the body shop. Looks to be coolant although there doesn't seem to be coolant in the exhaust or oil in the coolant. 02 Outback Sedan. 150,000Km on it. Any thoughts on how big of job, if I have to pull engine to do it etc.
  4. Thanks for the replies. I ended up picking up a 2010 impreza 2.5i sport Hatchback. I bought it out of province and spent just a little more than I was looking at for an older car. It was used only 1 year and had 38000km on it. Sold and serviced by the same dealer I picked it up from. Came with aftermarket Enkei 17" RPT-F1 wheels and Hankook performance summer tires. So far I love it. Handles great, acceleration is acceptable and I think it's a pretty sexy car with the wheels and tires it has. I have to pick up some good winter tires and mount them on steel wheels here in the next couple months. thanks again for the input. i suppose with the newer vehicles only time will tell if they'll be as reliable as the older soobs but hopefully it works out. Mileage I think is between 9.5 and 12 L\100km (darn metric system) I haven't calculated it, that's just what the gauge on the dash reads.
  5. Hi there. Introduced myself back around January and haven't really been on the forum much since. I'm currently driving an 02 outback sedan with the H6 engine. I've had almost no problems and am looking at buying another Subaru. I'm looking at a 06-08 Impreza RS. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with these years and if there is anything that should be avoided. I'm wanting to stay with the RS as opposed to the WRX for mileage reasons. I know if I had the turbo the pedal would be on the floor a little more and defeat the purpose of running a car back and forth to work as opposed to my truck. Any help would be great. Thanks,
  6. Hi there, love the forum. It looks like there's lots of good info here. I drive a 2002 Outback Sedan with the 3.0 H6 Engine and love it. I've been scared to death about working on this car myself, It's so much more complicated than my 95 Nissan Pathfinder which I four wheel with often and therefore wrench on even more often. The car has mainly been worked on by Subaru, however my new years resolution is to actually start maintaining and wrenching on this car myself so hopefully I'll find some helpful advice here to help me through the process.
