  1. Hi jturley. I don't know how many are left in the US but here in Australia mine is the only one I've seen for 7 or 8 years. I saw a '77 Wagon a few years ago and a 73? GSR at a wreckers a few years back but that's about it. I also have an '87 XT Turbo (Vortex) coupe and they are also getting very thin on the ground. It's nice to see people at this message board keeping some of them going for posterity.
  2. Thanks eulogious. I'm convinced, unfortunately although I am mechanically capable I'm afraid electronics are beyond me. I guess I'll just have to learn to live with it. Thanks for your very detailed reply, I appreciate the amount of time you have spent. I did check the fluid level which was a bit low and topped it up which seems to have made a slight difference but I'll have to give it a good run tomorrow to see. I've printed your amazing post out so if I meet an electronics whizz in my travels I'll have the info. Thanks again. Howard
  3. Hi Gloyale. Yes I am aware that it is only a 2.5lt four, and if I had my foot pressing the pedal a reasonable amount I wouldn't mind the revs, but when moving off slowly in traffic I don't expect to still be in second at 33 MPH. I'm not worried about the fuel or revs, I take it up to the red line every now and then. If driven manually in Sport mode and watching the up and down arrows it allows you to change at 1800rpm and around town on level ground is very happy at those revs. Maximum torque may be at 4400 rpm but the engine is known for a wide torque range and pulls quite happily down low. Hello Nipper. It's not too cold in Melbourne, temperature ranges from about 32F to 110F. I will check the fluid level and try resetting it as you suggest. Thanks for your input. I also have a 1976 GF Hardtop and a 1987 XT Turbo so I am a Subaru fan.
  4. Hi Folks. I have a 2008 2.5i Liberty (Legacy) with the 4 speed auto. The car has only done 20,000 klms so is in as new condition. One thing that annoys me is that no matter how gently I accelerate it holds both 1st and 2nd gears to nearly 3000 rpm before changing and has done this since new, which is far more than neccessary. When I mentioned it to the service guy he said that they would reset it. No Change! It annoys me so much I tend to drive it using the slapstick most of the time. I guess my question is are the change points able to be reprogrammed and if so can my Subaru dealer perform the operation? Thanks in advance
  5. Hi Arno. Sorry I hadn't replied but I've been away for a week. I hadn't thought of that, perhaps it does stand for "Front". As for the front and rear window seals, in Australia at least the only 1800 motors were fitted to the later style rounded Leonie body from 1979 onwards so I'm sure that they wouldn't fit ours. Yours has much more prominent looking bumper bars than mine because of the American Regulations at the time but otherwise it's the same except for the colour. Mine is "Gracious Brown"! I've had mine since 1980 and my wife tells people that she is second in my affections to it. Not true of course but it is a close run thing.
  6. Hi Leeroy. Yes I had the exhaust fabricated on the car. It sounds great. I was lucky enough to buy 2 new GSR heads some years ago when they were clearing out old stock for $100.00 each. I also got the last GSR cam from Japan or so they said. The heads were modified by Eddie Woods but the compression was still too high and took its toll on the bottom end, so I have a rebuild coming up and I'll look at shaving a bit off the pistons. It's great that you are restoring a GSR, a friend of mine had one but it was written off when a couple of young guys stole and crashed it. I hear that good GSRs are very collectible. I'll look at posting a picture sometile soon.
  7. Me again. With the GFT the "T" stood for Twin Carby version whereas my GF had a single twin choke carby. I also have the twin carby manifold which has been on from time to time, but I currently have a twin choke downdraft Weber on a modified single carb manifold. I also have modified GSR Heads and an extractor exhaust system. But I would love to Know what the "F" stands for. Perhaps "Great Fun" or "Goes Faster" as you suggest.
  8. Hi Folks. I have owned the above car for 30 years and I still don't know what the "F" in "GF" stands for. I know what GT, GSR, GS stand for but GF has me stumped. I'm hoping someone here may know. Regards, Howard
