  1. First I want to just say, the stock calipers on the front of the first gen BRAT have to be the dumbest design I've ever had to deal with on a car. Awful.

Secondly, I found the passenger caliper is completely frozen and the drivers one is rotten (the rubber and seals) do any of you guys know of or have done a different brake setup on these using the stock rotor/hub assembly? Maybe calipers from a gen 2 would work? If all else fails I'll just order new calipers to replace them but just wondered if a different cars would work?

    Thanks everyone!

  2. Indeed it has been swapped, best thing that can be done to a loyale/gl! I finished the swap right after Jan 1st of 2013, been running strong ever since. Although after I took the car mudding (previous pictures) the alternator went out, was spinning and just stopped producing any voltage. It's amazing how terrible these EJ motors run on low voltage!

Been awhile since I've worked on this garage relic but finally getting going on it again. I pulled the engine to get a new clutch kit on, gaskets and that sort of thing. Then I found that the pilot bearing had LONG ago been destroyed and just the bearing race was left. Took forever to chisel out but I got it. You can see what's left with the new one.

Worked great to attach to the bottom of the engine cradle there, and there were welded nuts on the top side so I just had to drill holes in the tube and put a 2.5" 8 mm coarse thread to bolt it on. Of course it's welded to the bumper. I have been wanting to do this for a LONG time!

I really miss my 99'. That car was incredible, rebuilt the engine and had such a great time. Mine was a 5 speed which made it fun.

These limited outbacks are nice and he should get great use out of it. I was raised as a Ford guy, which I still love old Fords but I will chose Subaru any day (mostly because of the need for AWD) but still they are fun to work on, cheap parts, super reliable but best of all I like the subaru community! Welcome to the board, please let us know of any help you may need.

  6. Hello there to every one out there talking about my lift. I was only building a six inch lift to begin with. And yes einstien it is considered a ten and a half inch lift when you build 6.5 inch spacers for the top of your 2001 forester struts with kyb gr2S . On iT. And this is my third subaru i have built. Fully on my own without anykind of instructions. All my cars have all driven good.

Well aren't you just all that. No instructions? I don't think anyone here has enjoyed this car/posting. Go over to NASIOC where people might care about ego pumping. This posting gives us nothing here, see we are a community, a family if you will where we all have a name that means something. A place where we all share ideas, thoughts, and a large portion of our lives with our subarus because we are enthusiasts.

  7. That's true coma, I wouldn't go less than a 10k winch on these. Heck 3000 lbs is about what the car weighs as it sits let alone it stuck in mud or snow or whatever.

What exactly are you looking to get out of being on this forum dragon? There is another member on here with almost that exact car in all black. Though I think he had a dual range tranny, I can't remember his name off the top of my head though.

  8. It's just a lifted subaru, what's the big deal?

It doesn't have a 10.5" lift though, it has more like a 6" lift and that's not top secret information, we've all been lifting subies for a long time bro.

  9. Nice! Good gasket set for sure. The only other thing I've done is hollow out the cat and I've even built my own Y pipe header before and had just a cherry bomb after the Y then straight out the back and that seemed to help alot, I don't know if you have to pass smog where you live though.
