  1. So I don't have a light probe, maybe i'll get one today. I took all the Fusable Links out and replaced them with 10gauge wire, all 3, and it didn't fix the problem, so that is not it. It could be the ignition switch. Someone cut out the Pink 5 pin connector, and spliced in the wires with a different ignition switch. I have a spare, but would have to splice it in as well, as there is no connector for them now. I suppose it could be this. Heres another thing. I took the cigarette wires off the cig plug and put a volt meter to it. When the car was running, I got nothing. I also did this to the heater plug and still got nothing. So heres the items that do NOT work. :: Electric Radiator Fan, Heater Blower, Cig Plug, Radio, Wiper Motor. The lights and turn signals, Defroster, and dash lights all work fine. Is there a central relay that operates this stuff, or is it possible that the ECM box is bad, causing parts of the electrical system to not work??? Please call if you think you have the answer... I'm friendly on the phone lol 907-978-3157 Thanks Ben
  2. Hey all, i've done searches, and haven't found a thing relating to my problem. I'm buying 2 more parts cars tonight. One runs well, but has electrical issues. The guy says it's an 82, but it has the single head lights and an ECM under the stearing column. When car is turned on, the heater/radio/cig plug/wipers do NOT work. All the fuses are good, and it seams like the common ground is good. I can't figure it out. Is there a Relay for all of these? The other parts car is a 1982 with the 4 headlights, it's missing a couple engine parts, but will do well for exterior and trim pieces for my Snowrat. The one with the electrical problems will be for my Wife, but our Temperature is now 3degrees F. so I need to figure out this issue. If anyone has any ideas, can you please call me directly, as I live Off-Grid and don't get into town to much to check emails. Nine Zero Seven - Nine Seven Eight - Three One Five Seven Thanks Guys Ben

Tubing size is 3/4" 3/16"wall. I'm going to Be adding rock sliders as well. As far as the exhaust goes I'm not sure how I would protect it better. Thanks for the suggestions keep um coming

I have a 1984 Subaru GL Wagon I like to call the "Snowrat". I live in Fairbanks AK. I got this car for free, bone stock, with 109,000k miles on it. No aparant problems with it, other than the carbuerator had some issues with lurching. The car was originally redish maroon, with brown interior. Being up here in Alaska has many demands on a vehicle. The summer is spent exploring ATV Trails in which I can not do in a fullsize truck, and the winter gets plenty of snow and well you can guess why I wanted a subaru. I am the type of person who can not leave anything stock, so heres what I've down to the "SnowRat": Gutted all Emissions, and added a 38mm Weber carb from http://www.webercarbuerator.com The 38mm gets a bit worse gas mileage than the 36mm, but a fair amount of added power. The car has a true dual exhaust with no Catalitic converts. 2 Glass packs and straight pipe. I added the 90amp alternator out of the Maxima and did that conversion. I added a dual battery system to help power my lights as well as my 8000lb MileMarker winch (synthetic winch rope). A bit overkill, but I had it sitting around. Gutted the sway bar and will be adding a tower strut bar. I bought the 4" Lift kit from Mike Appel from Oregon. Installation was very simple after about 6 calls to mike for suggestions. He was a great help and I'd highly recommend his lift kits. Of course it might have been easier for me to do as I have a car lift at work. I put on 235/75/R15 Trailhandler tires. They equal out to be about a 29" tire. Had to cut out some fender, and hit with BFH to clear, but overall they not only look great, but have an aggressive tread, and still ride smooth on the highway. The car no sits at about 8 1/4" higher than a stock subaru. I sent my original front and rear hubs down to Mike to have the redrilled for 6-Lug, and that was also a pretty easy install. Replaced all 4 Shocks and both front DriveAxles. Inside I have a nice stereo, CB, Police Scanner, Toggle Switch Box. All windows are tinted 5% Limo. I built a very sturdy rack system for the top which ties into an exo-cage into the front bumper which is very stout. I will be adding the remaining rear half of the exo-cage in due time. Made rear bumper as well with Hitch for front and rear. For those wondering what I can tow with this combo... I have easily towed a 500cc snowmachine/gear/and a dead 1100lbs moose. Also can easily tow my 22ft flatbottom riverboat. Future Mods: Rear Winch Front V-Style Snowplow Rear Exo-Cage Thanks again for all the support of this website, I found alot of my mechanical questions answered just by looking at threads.. Here are some photo's enjoy.... [/img] [/img] [/img] [/img]
  5. If you have questions give me a call I just did this swap with full emissions removal. 9079783157 ben

  7. I was thinking of doing this same welded diff to my 83 Wagon. My main concern is not breaking shafts, but it's loss of gas mileage. My driveway to our cabin on our 110 acre property is 1.2 miles long, and is pretty much an adventure to get home everyday. Temps outside right now are 36 below 0, and pulling an axle shaft is not something i'm willing to do. In the winter here it snows a couple feet at a time, and stays, along with freezing rain. Our driveway is nothing more than a luxurious ATV Trail, and in the summer it is worse, as it turns to a rutted mess of mud, so having the welded diff would be good. I can take time getting to work once I'm on paved roads, and town is about 10 miles on paved roads, but it's 13 miles of backroads, unpaved, and not well maintaned. Right now the sub in "open diff" works ok, but could deffinately be improved. So What type of gas mileage do you think would be lost with running 29's?? with a welded Diff?
  8. Ya that looks great. What is the Exact Wheel Size and Tire Make and Size on those???
  9. Ya, so it's a 4spd, not a 5spd... don't know what I was thinking there. This motor has 138,000 miles, and is still running ok, but I'm starting to have certain small problems with it, and I'll need to run a compression test on it soon. Only problem is that it is -30 degrees right now up here, and well I don't have a garage. I'd be open to swapping in a Fuel Injected motor, I'll try and look for the threads on the swapping. I'd be interested in taking the complete motor and turbo out of this car that I found in the bushes up here, but would have concerns that the motor it's self is bad. Are there markings on the engine casing to easily find out what type of motor it is? Would my 4spd tranny engage and fit to this new motor? My basic goal is to get as much power as possible without cramming a v8 into the engine compartment, if I need to get a bigger more modern sub motor and it has and can be done, I'm open to ideas. Thanks
  10. Hey Guys, I've just got a few subject points, in which I've tried to research on this site and many others that I have some questions on that I haven't found answers for yet. I know some of you older subbie guys might disagree with me on certain things I'm going to ask, which is fine, but I'm still curious. I have a 1984 Sub GL Wagon 1.8l 5spd 4x4. Current plans for the car is to lift it 4" put slightly bigger tires on it, and use it for an exploration rig up here in Alaska. I'd like to do the following if possible. TURBOS: I found a subaru I believe it's an 89 wagon with a Fuel Injected motor, It has a turbo setup. I'm wondering if I can salvage the turbo and setup and make it work on my Carbeurated setup. Has anyone done it? Any writeups on it?? Removing the Emissions: I live in Alaska, and we no longer have emissions. I'd like to remove all the emissions / rats nest, and possibly get a weber carb, with a different air filter stack. Anyone know how to remove everthing safely and correctly?? Any other horsepower mods available, besides exhaust and the minor tune ups...? Thanks Please share your responses and criticism.
  11. PM'd you about 4" Lift for 84 GL Wagon with possible Body Armor Gear.... Check your stuff.
