  1. hey kurt- well, i currently have a lifted 87 wagon from washington state that is nice. i also have a 88 hatch from colorado that has a 4 inch lift and has been modified into a "hatchbrat" complete with roll bars. then there are a couple of parts cars in my yard that i cant seem to get rid of. im sure you know how that goes. i am currently looking for a car for my daughter. she was driving a 87 gl wagon to school when another car pulled out in front of her while she was going 65 down the hiway. her car was totaled. the other car was totaled. the people in the other car are still in the hospital, unfortunatly. my daughter and my 2 sons walked away from the totaled out 87 soob. she wants another one. says she wont drive anything else. the tow truck driver who hauled the car away told me he wants to get a subaru for his son. he said he has never seen a car take such a hard hit and hold up so well.
  2. hello everyone. i have been a member of usmb for quite awhile but havent been online much for the last couple years. im still driving the soobs and life is going great now. hope things are going well for everyone on this board, i met some good people on here and its good to be back.
  3. hey- i live in wisconsin and am looking for a gl for my daughter. do you have something for sale?

  4. if all else fails and you still think the cat might be plugged- you can bring the car to an exhaust shop and have them do a "back pressure test". shops around here charge about 10 bucks for it. then you will know for sure if the cat is plugged or not. good luck
  5. is your car an automatic or a 5spd? 23 would be low for a 5spd, but i have had some automatic cars get that mileage, especially when going 70 down the freeway...
  6. thanks for the info ruparts. i need a non power steering one... no problem northguy- thanks for checking... i put a post in the marketplace. we will see what comes up.
  7. yea- i dont need the actual steering shaft, its the part that connects the steering column shaft to the shaft that comes out of the steering rack- has a little u-joint in it. none in the yards around here. if junkyard is the best way to go i will post a thread in the marketplace. northguy- if you have one that you can part with that is not wore- i will gladly pay for it and any shipping. archemitis- thanks for the info on the brat- that is good to know- should make one easier to find.. gregossary- i tried to lube it- even soaked it in hot 90w gear oil overnite, but it is way wore and binds up real bad. probably would last awile but i have this car all apart as i am putting a lift in it, and i figure now is a good time to change it. thanks for the replies. i was just wonderin if there was a way to go besides the junkyard. i was surprised when the driveline machine shop said they could not do anything....
  8. thanks for the reply erik- just looking for a stock one. dealer wants 378.00 napa or any local auto parts store does not list. local driveline machine shop sez- " cant rebuild something with that small of a u-joint" is the junkyard the only way to go? no ea81 cars in the yards around here... has anyone ever had to replace one of these?
  9. do like skip sez- its the fastest easiest way. you do not have to even touch the ball joint. just read the steps- one bolt that attaches the lower control arm to the crossmember or subframe, whatever you want to call it. sway bar brake cable drive pin out from doj by the tranny pull out on the bottom of the tire- you dont even have to take off the tire if you dont wanna! when you pull out on the bottom of the tire -you will have just enough room to get the axle off the tranny stub. then you go from there.
  10. any suggestions on where to get a steering shaft u-joint assembly for an ea81 hatch? not looking for a junkyard one... dealer only part? or take it to a machine shop and get it rebuilt? anyone ever bought one of these? are they available at any auto parts stores? napa online did not list it that i saw... any suggestions appreciated. thank you.
  11. ok- thanks for the reply. i will get going on it tonight. by the way mcbrat- i got the glass in from the brat. it turned out pretty good. you cut out just the right amount.
  12. getting ready to put a 4/3 pk lift kit into my ea81 hatch. just have one question- on the front of the car, the strut blocks and engine crossmember blocks are 4 inches, but the other 6 round blocks that go under the rest of the front of the car are only 3 inches... is this correct? just want to make sure it is right before i start. thanks for any replies.
  13. i would check all the phillips screws that hold the top of the carb onto the main body of the carb also. i had these work loose on a car i had once. turned out the whole carb was kinda falling apart right on top of the motor. tightened them all up and was as good as new...
  14. i have one i got from georgia for my wife- clean and in nice shape. put a 5spd dr in in. she drives it daily. 30 mpg. so i dont hate them. same as a gl except for some minor trim differences- does not have the rear cargo light, and some other odds and ends. big deal. basically the same car.
  15. glad you are ok. thats the main thing. crashing is a drag.
