Any SUV with open diffs and AWD will have the same problem. And any SUV with 4WD and open diffs is even more of a problem because power is locked 50/50 and so any help the fronts could give you is only 50% of engine torque whereas an AWD car will be able to shift power to each axle to give you more help.

3AT FWD emergency! question???
Dr.Outback replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I replaced the vacuum modulator on mine and the rod fell out without me knowing it causing a binding and rubbing sound when I turned. Plus I could smell the tranny getting hot. I found the rod sitting on the driveway, popped it back and problem solved. -
Well I went the do it yourself route when I got the car. There's this paint I got that is absoulutly awesome. In fact I should've mentioned it before. It is made by a company called Wurth and the name of the paint is SaBesto Rust Stop Black it comes in black and gray. This stuff bonds with the steel and really does stop it. All the rust I had fixed didn't come back until I had it replaced by the student body shop at school. As soon as they took the Rust Stop off and painted the panels, they started to rust again because they didn't do a good job priming the panels. I only had it professionally fixed because I'm sick and tired of wasting my time on it and I want to keep the car for as long as possible. Remember to look for Wurth SaBesto Rust Stop Black or Gray. It's about $27 a pint and you will need to use gloves and disposable brushes.

I just spent a grand on a new left rocker panel and refinish on the wheel arch of the quater panel for my '84 Wagon. And looking under my left wheel well, I just found a pretty good size hole into my cargo compartment, in the area of the shock mount. I'm going to go get an estimate on getting it fixed this afternoon. I'm just spouting a little.

I was wondering if there was a fuel return line for the Carter 1Bbl that I could use to hook up a return line for my Weber? It's been 2 years since I put my carb on, so I don't remember.

Calebz....What model Subaru do you have? Like with every manufacturer, Subaru has their problems. But I've done extensive research as regards reliability, averaging reliability results and such. And I've found that Subaru's are 3rd to Toyota and Honda by about 3% more problems. But Subaru's are more complicated vehicles with AWD and such. The '96 Legacy and Impreza have a pretty bad engine rating from Consumer Reports. The fact that both the Impreza and Legacy have the same rating leads me to believe that the 2.2L engine is mostly at fault because the Impreza didn't have the 2.5L until the 2.5RS. And since on this board I haven't heard of any major problems with the 2.2's except for oil leaks, then that must be the reason for the low rating.

Yeah I've seen pictures of the 9-2. It will be interesting to see a Saab with a boxer. I guess the post about the crossover made me sound like a newbie. It really did take me by suprise. I knew Subaru was working on a seven passenger vehicle, but I thought it would be a minivan. I never got around to getting my old post count back.

I just got my latest October MT. On pg.48 their is an article on the '05 Legacy. In the article it stated that, "Subaru is readying a new Legacy-based crossover for fall 2004, to compete with the Lexus RX 330 () and the Acura MDX. () That gives the '05 Outback room to become more elegant and carlike." Wow. Subaru has set their sites high going after Lexus and Acura, and not going after the Toyota and Honda versions. My mouth dropped open when I read that. The '04 Legacy looks sweet, I can't wait. It seems just like yesterday when the '00 came out.

Can anyone get me a Weber 32/36 shop manual?
Dr.Outback replied to Dr.Outback's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the replies. I'll try the carbs unlimited place. My Weber has always had the odd problem of blowing out smoke when right hand cornering, the engine coughs and sputters and smells real bad. It must be that the fuel bowl is spilling out the main jet and flooding the carb. -

Hey guys and gals! Just wanted to let you know that I made a small adjustment with my name. The old system wouldn't let me use the period in my user name so that's why I was drOutback. Just wanted to let you know I'm still the same guy.
