  1. 1981 subie 4x4 wagon GL, Sweethome, Oregon
  2. I want to thank everyone who has given me tech information on my 81 4x4 wagon. I am building up the engine at this point. I got some information about not boring the 1.8 motor out due to possible sleeve problems. So, I will have to look at the condition of the cylinders and make a decision. I am increasing the horsepower with more aggresive pistons. I will put a mega- squirt or weber carb system on the engine. My question is what cam grind should I use. I want more horsepower but also want it driveable around town. Someone told me about a 272\260 grind. Any suggestions? Thanks Mike
  3. I am presently restoring a 1981 subaru GL 4x4 station wagon. I am rebuilding the motor. Boring the engine out 20 thousands over and using 1600 pistons. I am also putting in a more aggresive cam. I will put on a weber carb and a accel super coil and a distributor off of a 2 wheel drive subie. I am removing the catalytic converter and putting on one and threequarter exhaust pipe. I will also use a flowmaster muffler. Is there anything else I can do to eek out any more horsepower, beside building a special intake manifold. I hope this car will be somewhat like the old 91 dual overhead cam mazda protege, I used to have. I will be painting the car back to its original white. I am also installing later model subie seats and wheels.
  4. old guy: I am presently semi- restoring a 1981 subaru station wagon gl 4x4. I had a 91 mazda protege with a five speed and double overhead cam engine. I loved that car, hopefully I can make this subie close to the mazda. Four wheel drive is a plus.
